A wicked chain of events sends motorcyclist to GTA hospital

A motorcyclist was sent to a Toronto-area hospital after crashing into two SUVs in Barrie Wed., Aug. 6, 2025. PHOTO: LINDSAY BYERS A motorcycle struck two SUVs travelling in opposite directions in Barrie's west end Wednesday night. Barrie Police Service was summoned to a serious collision on Ferndale Drive North at 8:23 p.m. Police arrived to discover that two sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and a motorcycle had crashed and that the motorcyclist was in a serious condition. Police closed the road between Edgehill Drive and Benson Drive until 4 a.m. Thursday as they investigated the scene. Police determined the motorcycle was travelling northbound on Ferndale Drive when it clipped the left rear corner of the northbound SUV. Police say this forced the motorcycle to veer into the southbound lanes where upon it collided with another SUV that was headed southbound on Ferndale. Once the motorcycle struck the second SUV, the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike, as the SUV driver lost control and struck a nearby hydro pole. The motorbike caught fire when it hit the SUV, and it finally came to rest on the west side of Ferndale Drive North. Unfortunately, the nearby dry grass caught on fire and had to be extinguished by the Barrie firefighters. The seven people who were in the two SUVs were unharmed. The operator of the motorcycle was brought to a local hospital but was later airlifted to a Toronto area trauma centre where he is being treated for serious injuries. Police have not laid charges yet, but they are asking if anyone has dash camera video or witnessed the crash to Det.- Const. Hueson of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit by email: rhueson@
