Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners upgrades, Pak airspace closure
The airline said 26 of its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners are undergoing upgrades to enhance passenger comfort, with some aircraft to remain out of service until late 2026. The airspace closure has lengthened flight times on certain long-haul routes, adding pressure to schedules.
'Coupled with the continued closure of airspace over Pakistan, which impacts long-haul operations by forcing longer routings, the retrofit has made it operationally challenging to maintain the Delhi–Washington service,' the airline said.
Air India one-stop connections to Washington still active
Passengers booked on the route beyond September 1 will be contacted and offered alternatives, including rebooking on other flights or full refunds, Air India stated.
While the non-stop option will cease, Air India will maintain one-stop connections to Washington via New York, Newark, Chicago, and San Francisco through partner carriers.
Non-stop flights to six other North American destinations, including Toronto and Vancouver, will continue.
No safety concerns in Boeing aircraft: Campbell Wilson
Last week, Chief Executive Campbell Wilson said that inspections of the Boeing 787-8, 787-9, and 737 fleets found no safety concerns, adding that the retrofit programme remains on schedule.

IHCL to acquire majority stake in firms operating The Clarks Hotels & Resorts' brand
Tata Group-owned Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) on Monday said a committee constituted by its board has approved and executed agreements to acquire about 51 per cent stake each in two entities -- ANK Hotels and Pride Hospitality -- which have a portfolio of 135 hotels operated under 'The Clarks Hotels & Resorts' brand. The transactions to be executed via cash consideration are expected to be completed by November 15, 2025. The share subscription and purchase agreements and shareholders' agreements were executed to acquire about 51 per cent equity stake for an amount not exceeding Rs 110 crore in ANK Hotels Pvt Ltd, and Rs 94 crore in Pride Hospitality Pvt Ltd, according to a regulatory filing. "The foregoing companies have a portfolio of 135 hotels which are operated under 'The Clarks Hotels & Resorts', primarily across India, IHCL said. The country's biggest hospitality player has also signed a distribution & marketing agreement with 'Brij Hospitality Pvt Ltd', which has a portfolio of 19 hotels under the Brij Brand, primarily across the country. The transactions (subject to fulfilment of certain condition precedents) aim to address India's heterogenous market landscape and provide deeper geographical penetration across India in the midscale segment while continuing to pursue its asset light growth strategy, IHCL stated in the filing. The proposed acquisition of 51 per cent stake in ANK Hotels Pvt Ltd will add a portfolio of 111 midscale hotels (with 67 hotels in operation) to IHCL's portfolio.

Air India to stop flights to Washington DC from Sept. 1 over planned retrofit
Air India will stop its flights to Washington DC from September 1, 2025 due to shortage of aircraft as it undertakes retrofitment of its legacy widebody aircraft starting with Boeing 787-8s. Last month, the airline sent first of its 26 Boeing 787-8 aircraft which will be unavailable for flying till December 2025. Multiple aircraft will remain unavailable over a prolonged period until at least the end of 2026, according to a statement from Air India. The retrofitment of the 787s is expected to conclude by June 2027. The airline will continue to fly to other four U.S. destinations – New York, Newark, Chicago and San Francisco. Last week, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson announced in a townhall that the retrofitment of the legacy Boeing 777 aircraft is once again delayed till mid-2027, three years behind the initial schedule of mid-2024. The retrofit for Boeing 777 is now likely to conclude by October 2028 as per the latest timeline. After taking the delivery of 6 A350s, the next widebody delivery of a new aircraft a Boeing 787 is expected by the end of 2025. The 7th A350 is expected to join Air India only in the third quarter of financial year 2026.
