Donald Trump and Elon Musk said that a DOGE staffer was attacked in Washington DC. Both shared the same opinion to federalise the capital city.
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday confirmed that a DOGE member was attacked by 'a bunch of thugs" in Washington DC, and warned to federalise the city and run it 'the way it's supposed to be run".
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who headed the DOGE for approximately five months in Trump 2.0, also said that a 'team member" was attacked and called to federalise DC.
The victim of the attack that took place early Sunday morning around 3 am in the city's Logan Circle neighborhood was identified as Edward Coristine, who also goes by the nickname 'Big Balls", news agency AP reported. The incident occurred when a group of teenagers attempted to carjack him and a woman whom police identified as his significant other.
'Somebody from DOGE was very badly hurt last night… A young man who was beaten up by a bunch of thugs in D.C. Either they're going to straighten their act out, or we're going to have to federalise and run it the way it's supposed to be run," Trump told reporters.
In a social media post, Trump pointed to the rising crime in the US Capital city and said that he will exert his powers if this goes on.
'Crime in Washington, D.C., is totally out of control. Local 'youths" and gang members, some only 14, 15, and 16 years old, are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent Citizens, at the same time knowing that they will be almost immediately released. They are not afraid of Law Enforcement because they know nothing ever happens to them, but it's going to happen now! If this continues, I am going to exert my powers and FEDERALIZE this City. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump said on Truth Social.
Elon Musk Reacts
Musk earlier said that a gang of nearly a dozen young men attempted to assault a woman in her car at night in DC, however, the DOGE team member saw it happening and 'ran to defend her and was severely beaten to the point of concussion, but he saved her".
'It is time to federalize DC," he wrote on X.
Police Arrest 2 For Crime
DC Police arrested a 15-year-old boy and girl from Maryland on charges of unarmed carjacking, The Washington Post reported, citing a release by the department.
The duo was held at the city's youth detention center.
This is the latest attack on a federal staffer in Washington. Earlier in June, 21-year-old congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym was killed in crossfire near the District's convention center, the report said.

Donald Trump's Truth Social launches Perplexity-powered AI search to take on Google

Truth Social, the social media platform backed by US President Donald Trump, has launched a new artificial intelligence-powered search engine named Truth Search AI, as part of its latest effort to challenge the dominance of Big Tech, especially Google. The beta version of the tool went live on Wednesday, with Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) announcing that it has partnered with San Francisco-based Perplexity, a rising AI startup that offers an 'answer engine' rather than a traditional search platform. 'Powered by Perplexity, a software and AI company dedicated to providing direct, contextually accurate answers with transparent citations, Truth Search AI is intended to enhance the Truth Social platform and exponentially increase the amount of information available to its users,' Trump Media said in a press feature is currently available on the web version of Truth Social, with plans to expand to iOS and Android apps the launch mirrors a broader trend of social media platforms embracing AI, including Elon Musk's Grok chatbot on X and Meta's AI assistant on Instagram and WhatsApp, Truth Search AI has drawn attention for the political context surrounding its rollout. Meanwhile, The National, a UAE state-owned outlet, noted that answers generated by the tool frequently rely on conservative-leaning media such as Fox News and Epoch Times. However, tests by 404Media suggested the tool is not entirely one-sided. In response to questions about the US economy and Trump-era tariffs, the AI reportedly offered surprisingly critical responses, citing economic slowdowns and negative impacts of tariffs. Axios reported that the version of Perplexity used by Truth Social pulls from a narrower set of sources compared to Perplexity's public-facing version. A Perplexity spokesperson confirmed that Truth Social is using its Sonar API, a developer tool that allows customisation — including source Perplexity declined to disclose financial terms of the deal, the company clarified that Truth Social, like other clients, has full control over how the tool is set up. The Sonar API, launched earlier this year, includes features specifically designed to let clients filter or prioritise sources, a top user request, according to the partnership comes at a time when AI is playing a growing role in US policy and tech development. President Trump has made AI a priority in his administration, issuing an executive order earlier this year to remove barriers to American AI leadership. Meanwhile, Perplexity has also attracted criticism over its data practices. The BBC, Forbes, and Dow Jones have all accused the company of copying or republishing material without permission. Perplexity has denied the allegations, claiming they stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of how AI and the internet work.- EndsTune InMust Watch

Trump's broad tariffs go into effect, hit goods from major U.S. trading partners

President Donald Trump's higher tariff rates of 10% to 50% on dozens of trading partners kicked in on Thursday (August 7, 2025), testing his strategy for shrinking U.S. trade deficits without massive disruptions to global supply chains, higher inflation and stiff retaliation from trading partners. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency began collecting the higher tariffs at 12:01 a.m. EDT (0401 GMT) after weeks of suspense over Trump's final tariff rates and frantic negotiations with major trading partners that sought to lower them. "RECIPROCAL TARIFFS TAKE EFFECT AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!," Mr. Trump said on Truth Social just ahead of the deadline. Goods loaded onto U.S.-bound vessels and in transit before the midnight deadline can enter at lower prior tariff rates before October 5, according to a CBP notice to shippers issued this week. Imports from many countries had previously been subject to a baseline 10% import duty after Trump paused higher rates announced in early April. But since then, Mr. Trump has frequently modified his tariff plan, slapping some countries with much higher rates, including 50% for goods from Brazil, 39% from Switzerland, 35% from Canada and 25% from India. Tariffs on India The initial 25% tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Indian imports came into effect on Thursday (August 7, 2025). Last week, the White House announced that India will face tariffs of 25% after Mr. Trump issued an executive order listing the various duties that Washington will impose on exports from countries around the world. In addition to the 25% tariff announced last week, Mr. Trump on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) imposed another 25% levies on India for its purchases of Russian oil, bringing the total duties slapped on India to 50%, among the highest imposed by the U.S. on any country in the world. Eight major trading partners accounting for about 40% of U.S. trade flows have reached framework deals for trade and investment concessions to Mr. Trump, including the European Union, Japan and South Korea, reducing their base tariff rates to 15%. Britain won a 10% rate, while Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines secured rate reductions to 19% or 20%. "For those countries, it's less-bad news," said William Reinsch, a senior fellow and trade expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. "There'll be some supply chain rearrangement. There'll be a new equilibrium. Prices here will go up, but it'll take a while for that to show up in a major way," Reinsch said. Countries with punishingly high duties, such as India and Canada, "will continue to scramble around trying to fix this," he added. Mr. Trump's order has specified that any goods determined to have been transshipped from a third country to evade higher U.S. tariffs will be subject to an additional 40% import duty, but his administration has released few details on how these goods would be identified or the provision enforced. Trump's July 31 tariff order imposed duties above 10% on 67 trading partners, while the rate was kept at 10% for those not listed. These import taxes are one part of a multilayered tariff strategy that includes national security-based sectoral tariffs on semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, autos, steel, aluminum, copper, lumber and other goods. Mr. Trump said on Wednesday the microchip duties could reach 100%. China is on a separate tariff track and will face a potential tariff increase on August 12 unless Mr. Trump approves an extension of a prior truce after talks last week in Sweden. He has said he may impose additional tariffs over China's purchases of Russian oil as he seeks to pressure Moscow into ending its war in Ukraine.
