Yankees Predicted to Let Veteran Walk After Career Year, Turn Page to Spencer Jones

The New York Yankees will have some important outfield decisions to make in the offseason.
Trent Grisham is going to be a free agent, and Cody Bellinger will likely opt out in search of a more lucrative deal. Jasson Domínguez and Aaron Judge figure to be a part of the outfield next season, and FanSided's Stephen Parello thinks the team will have to move on from Grisham after his career year.
"Along with fellow outfielder Cody Bellinger, Grisham will hit free agency at season's end," wrote Parello. "The Yankees will likely only try to bring one of them back, and Bellinger has the leg up due to a longer track record and more versatility.
"Further complicating matters for Grisham is the presence of top prospect Spencer Jones, who reached near-untouchable status in deadline talks and whose otherworldly performance for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre means he soon will break down the door to the big leagues. That, unfortunately, will leave no room for a Grisham return."

NEW YORK, NY - JULY 26: Trent Grisham #12, Jazz Chisholm Jr. #13 and Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees look on during the game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Yankee Stadium on July 26, 2025 in New York, New York. More
NewGrisham has a career-high 20 home runs and an .828 OPS. However, Bellinger is a former MVP who can also slot in at first base for the Yankees. Additionally, with Jones knocking on the door of the big leagues, the Yankees will not bring both Bellinger and Grisham back.
The Yankees made a strong decision to hold on to Jones at the trade deadline in favor of short-term gain. A four-man outfield with Jones, Bellinger, Judge and Domínguez could be the route the Yankees take next year.
With Paul Goldschmidt's contract expiring, Ben Rice figures to take over at first base. Bellinger could see some time at first base and designated hitter, giving Aaron Boone more flexibility to build his lineup than Grisham would.

Should the Nets still keep tabs on Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo?
The Brooklyn Nets have made it clear since last offseason that they are trying to rebuild the franchise through the draft, as evidenced by their five picks in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. Brooklyn would presumably like to improve on its 26-56 record from the 2024-25 season so there is a possibility that general manager Sean Marks could keep his options open. While Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is more likely to remain in Milwaukee than he is to request a trade this offseason, there is some reporting that could give other teams reason to continue monitoring Antetokounmpo's status. "Sources tell me there's still nothing set in stone about whether Giannis Antetokounmpo will stay in Milwaukee or whether he will be leaving," ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday. The Bucks have made various moves to surround Antetokounmpo with the best team possible given the circumstances, but Charania's report could indicate that the "Greek Freak" isn't quite sold as of yet. With that being said, there is still a possibility that Antetokounmpo is dealt before the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign so let's take a look at what the Nets could do to potentially bring him to Brooklyn (h/t B/R's Grant Hughes): The Mock Trade Nets Receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo. Bucks Receive: forward Michael Porter Jr., 2027 first-round pick (top-1 protected), 2027 first-round pick (via NYK), 2029 first-round pick (top-1 protected), 2029 first-round pick (via HOU), 2031 first-round pick (top-1 protected). Reason For/Against The Nets Doing This Trade Over the past couple of years, it has been made clear through a myriad of reports that the Nets are fond of Antetokounmpo and seemed to prefer trading for him as opposed to other players considered to be less than untouchable. Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported during the 2024-25 season that Brooklyn was still interested in Antetokounmpo so the latest reporting could potentially reinvigorate that interest. The argument for trading for Antetokounmpo is simple: the Nets would be getting one of the best players in the league and is still just 30 years old. Antetokounmpo would be far and away Brooklyn's best player heading into next season if this trade went through and he would still have players like Nic Claxton, Cam Thomas (assuming he re-signs), and Egor Demin to share the floor with. The argument for passing on trading for Antetokounmpo is also understandable given that the Nets would be giving up their own first-round picks in 2027, 2029, and 2031 as long as those picks aren't first overall. It's hard to see a team like the Bucks do this trade with any kind of protections on the picks especially since Antetokounmpo is still in MVP-level form and you wouldn't give up Antetokounmpo while not being able to draft the best available players over the next few seasons. Verdict While the idea of acquiring Antetokounmpo is understandably enticing to any team in the NBA, the Nets have to think about the long game during this rebuild. Getting Antetokounmpo would ensure that Brooklyn is going all in on a team that would presumably compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but is probably not good enough to compete for a championship. While Thomas, Claxton, and Demin are still young, Antetokounmpo is most likely towards the end of his prime, assuming that he doesn't age as well as Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. Even if Antetokounmpo ages gracefully, he has three years left on his contract with the third year being a player option. So, the Nets would presumably have two years to convince Antetokounmpo to not only want a trade, but to sign another contract that would take him through the end of his career. Marks has already gone all in once during his tenure as GM and Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving did not work out for a variety of reasons, some outside of anyone's control. Marks said at the end of the season that the Nets will keep their minds open as they progress through the offseason, but ending the rebuild for Antetokounmpo may not be the move. Brooklyn would most likely not do this trade, at least not how the mock trade suggests.

2025 NFL Odds: Public Backing Aaron Rodgers, Steelers Over 8.5; To Make Playoffs
Aaron Rodgers hasn't taken one snap as a Steeler yet, but that hasn't stopped bettors from backing him and Pittsburgh to make some noise during the season and into the playoffs. At BetMGM, the Steelers' 8.5 is the second-most-bet Over regular-season win total. They're behind the Seahawks, whose win total is 8.5 as well. Also at the book, bettors like the Black and Yellow to earn a postseason bid. In that market, Steelers +140 to make the playoffs is second in tickets and third in handle. Could bettors' faith in Pittsburgh be because Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season as head coach or because Rodgers — the four-time MVP — is under center? Let's take a glance at a few more Steelers odds at BetMGM as of Aug. 6. Super Bowl+4000 (bet $10 to win $410 total) AFC Championship+2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total) AFC No. 1 Seed+2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total) AFC Super Bowl Winning Conference-115 (bet $10 to win $18.70 total) AFC North Division Winner+550 (bet $10 to win $65 total) AFC North Second Place+290 (bet $10 to win $39 total) Rodgers comes into his Steelers tenure after two years playing for the Jets. In his debut with New York, he tore his left Achilles tendon just four snaps into the first game of the season. Year 1 with Gang Green was over before it ever really began. In Year 2, he passed for 28 touchdowns and 3,897 yards, but the Jets missed the playoffs, finishing with a 5-12 record. Then, in February, the Jets announced they were moving on from the 10-time Pro Bowler, and in June, the Steelers announced they were signing him to a one-year deal. Will the Tomlin-Rodgers tandem spell success for the Steelers, ultimately helping bettors who've backed them to cash in? Well, according to FOX Sports NFL writer Henry McKenna, that answer is complicated. "The Steelers have plenty of talent. Coach Mike Tomlin, Rodgers, DK Metcalf, T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, Darius Slay and Alex Highsmith could take this team to a championship. Technically," McKenna wrote. He continued: "Rodgers is a destabilizing force set to meet his match in Tomlin, one of the NFL's steadiest leaders. But chaos wins every time. Check out Murphy's Law. "It's possible to imagine Rodgers overwhelming Tomlin. And maybe everything falls apart in Pittsburgh, leading to a total cleaning of house. That's the wild thing about Rodgers. There might be no player with greater risk. And at his age, the rewards are less obvious." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
