Integrity must be embedded in all levels of Sabah's administration – Tun Musa
KOTA KINABALU (June 21): Integrity must be upheld across all levels of administration and leadership in Sabah to maintain public trust in government institutions, said Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman.
He said it is his aspiration to see the state governed with integrity, accountability and wisdom, supported by sustainable development plans that prioritise the people's well-being.
'I believe with strong leadership and the support of the people, Sabah will continue to grow and prosper,' he said in a special address in conjunction with his 74th official birthday here on Saturday.
He delivered the address at the 2025 Sabah Investiture Ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu, where 60 individuals received state awards, medals and honours.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other state leaders.
Justice of the Peace (JP) title to senior lawyer and Society of Hope Sabah president Josephine Hadikusumo.
Tun Musa emphasised the need to strengthen development efforts to ensure sustainable and inclusive progress, through close cooperation between the government and the people.
He also stressed the importance of addressing global challenges through progressive approaches, including the promotion of technological innovation, development of quality human capital, and the building of a resilient economy.
'Building a dynamic and competitive society is crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the state's development,' he said.
He further called for continued unity among the people, describing it as the foundation for peace and progress in Sabah.
Tun Musa also commended Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his Cabinet for their commitment to advancing the state in line with a more inclusive and sustainable development agenda.

Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim led Saturday's honours list after being conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'.
Businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Albert Lim Yu Ming were also awarded the SPDK.
A total of 37 individuals received the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title 'Datuk'. Among the recipients were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Dr Fuziah Salleh and Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang.
Other PGDK recipients included Senator Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian, Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim, Amanah Sabah chairman Lahirul Latigu, Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai, Sabah Special Branch chief SAC Abdul Rahman Ishak, State Health director Dr Maria Suleiman, and veteran journalist Emin Madi of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Sabah Bureau.
The first session of the investiture ceremony also saw five individuals receiving the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), four each receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) and Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), and six receiving the Justice of the Peace (JP) title.
Earlier, Musa, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, attended the parade held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah at Padang Merdeka.-Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh completed giving his statement at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) here at 1.25am on Saturday (Aug 16) over the assembly in Kepala Batas, Penang last Thursday. Perak MB: Malaysians' duty to respect Jalur Gemilang
IPOH: Every Malaysian who understands the meaning of a sovereign and independent country has a duty to respect the Jalur Gemilang flag, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said. Respecting the Jalur Gemilang flag is not a question of race, skin colour, religion or party affiliation, he added. "When we fly the Jalur Gemilang, let's do it properly and with respect, not upside down, don't let it get worn or torn. "If it's put up wrongly, let's correct it together, if there are those who don't understand, let's explain. This is how we show we understand and care," he said during his speech at the Perak-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag 2025 campaign here yesterday. He said respecting the Jalur Gemilang flag showed respect for the country as the flag represented the country and stood for its dignity, history and the future of all Malaysians. "Every time it (the Jalur Gemilang flag) flies high, let us cheer with our spirit, and remind ourselves that we are united under one flag, we fight under one banner, and we bear this flag as we continue to blaze ahead to build our future," he added. Saarani reminded the public that all Malaysians need to commemorate the National Day celebrations as a way to live their lives in peace, unity and to build a country with all their strength and capabilities. Extreme attitudes and arrogance as well as discriminatory behaviour based on race, lineage or skin colour, must be stopped immediately, the Prime Minister declared, adding that he has directed government agencies to take firm action. 'I have given clear instructions to enforcement bodies: if there are any elements – whether prominent figures, politicians, community leaders or ordinary citizens – engaged in threats or incitement, take action. 'The country's safety and peace must be preserved, regardless of race, religion, wealth or status.' Recent incidents, including cases of racial and religious tensions, bullying in schools and workplaces, and the deaths of students, have all been worrying. These instances, he said, must be properly addressed by enforcement bodies, educators, parents and the public. 'This is not something that can be solved through policy announcements or enforcement alone. 'It must come from the people's awareness that we are building a nation with strong economic growth alongside high moral values,' Anwar said in his speech at the 20th Civil Service Premier Assembly here yesterday. Citing as examples the death of schoolgirl Zara Qairina Mahathir in Sabah and the improper handling of the national flag, he warned against exploiting such issues to inflame political sentiments. The Prime Minister warned against both the 'tyranny of the majority' and the 'tyranny of the minority,' reiterating his government's policy of zero tolerance of racism and religious bigotry. He said Malaysia's reputation as a peaceful nation capable of contributing to regional and international peace efforts depends on upholding justice and the rule of law.
