PM Modi and Cuban President discuss ties in Pharma and, UPI on sidelines of BRICS
According to an official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both leaders also exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in areas including Ayurveda, Unified Payment Interface (UPI), disaster management, and capacity building.
The two leaders agreed to work on issues of concern to the global South, including in the areas of health, pandemics and climate change. They appreciated the cooperation between the two countries in the multilateral arena, the statement added.
"PM Narendra Modi met with President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez of Cuba on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.
He posted, "Both leaders exchanged views on various facets of India-Cuba relationship including in the areas of economic cooperation, biotechnology, pharma, Ayurveda and traditional medicine, Digital Public Infrastructure and UPI, disaster management, and capacity building."

AAP leader and former Delhi chief minister, Atishi, on Saturday said that the BJP government has started preparations to demolish jhuggi-jhopri (JJ) clusters in Nangli Dairy, just months after razing Madrasi Camp, Jailerwala Bagh, and Bhoomiheen Camp. Speaking to mediapersons, Atishi said, 'Ahead of elections, BJP leaders conducted symbolic stays in jhuggi-jhopri clusters, shared meals with residents, played ludo and carrom with children, and distributed 'Jhuggi ke sthaan par pakka makaan' cards.' 'While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly claimed that not a single slum would be demolished in Delhi… the moment Delhi elections were over and the BJP came to power, they began tearing down the homes of the poor. The very jhuggis where they made promises are now the first to face bulldozers,' she added. Atishi, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, said the BJP government is now preparing to demolish slums in Nangli Dairy. 'Two days ago, the BJP-run MCD pasted demolition notices on homes in the cluster, which has 250-300 jhuggis. Residents have been labelled 'encroachers' and warned that unless they submit documents within five days, their homes will be demolished,' she added. Maintaining that AAP stands firmly with the poor, Atishi said, 'Whether it's in court, at the MCD, in the Delhi Assembly or out on the streets, AAP will fight shoulder to shoulder with jhuggi dwellers. We will not allow the BJP to demolish these homes.'

EAM Jaishankar to tour Singapore, China from July 13
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will embark on a three-day visit to Singapore and China on Sunday (July 13, 2025). Mr. Jaishankar is visiting China to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Chinese city of Tianjin, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). It would be Mr. Jaishankar's first visit to China after the ties between the two countries came under severe strain following the 2020 military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. "External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be visiting Singapore and the People's Republic of China from July 13 to 15," the MEA said. In Singapore, Mr. Jaishankar will meet his counterpart and the leadership of the country as part of the regular exchanges between the two sides, it said. "Thereafter, the external affairs minister will visit the People's Republic of China to participate in the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers' Meeting (CFM) being held in Tianjin," the ministry said in a statement. Mr. Jaishankar will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the CFM. National Security Advisor (NSA) Doval visited Beijing in December last year and held the Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary question with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Mr. Doval visited China last month as well for a meeting of top security officials of the SCO member nations. Mr. Jaishankar's visit comes less than three weeks after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh travelled to the Chinese port city of Qingdao to participate in the SCO defence ministers' conference. China is the current chair of the SCO and is hosting the meetings of the grouping in that capacity. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and a deadly clash at the Galwan valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in ties between the two neighbours. The face-off effectively ended after the completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21 last year. In the last few months, India and China have initiated a number of measures to repair the bilateral ties. The decision to revive the SR mechanism and other such dialogue formats was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23. The Modi-Jinping meeting came two days after India and China firmed up a disengagement pact for Depsang and Demchok.

World recognises 2 infinite powers of India — demography and democracy: PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India's two strengths are its demography and democracy, with the country being the most populous and the largest democracy in the world. In a virtual address during Rozgar Mela, after distributing over 51,000 appointment letters to youths, the PM said his government's welfare schemes, be it building over four crore houses for the poor, distributing over 10 crore new LPG connections or the rooftop solar programme, have created lakhs of new employment opportunities, and so have a host of other initiatives that led to growth in manufacturing sector. Exhorting the youth to work hard for the nation, he said the motto should be 'citizens first', and underlined that their careers would be the most important phase of 'Amrit Kaal' for the country. 'The world acknowledges today that India possesses two infinite powers. One is demography, the other is democracy. In other words, the largest youth population and the largest democracy,' he said. Asserting that the country has progressed in every field in the past 11 years, PM Modi said electronic manufacturing had risen over five times and mobile manufacturing units have increased to nearly 300 from two to four earlier. Noting that over 25 crore people were lifted out of poverty in the past 10 years, the PM said it would not have happened but for the employment and sources of income generated for them. Citing an International Labour Organization report, Modi said over 90 crore people were covered under the ambit of welfare schemes in the last decade. The worth of defence production has gone beyond `1.25 lakh crore, he said, adding that India is now on the way to becoming the third-largest economy. Defence manufacturing is being discussed proudly after Operation Sindoor, he said in an apparent reference to the display of India's indigenous military capability during the conflict with Pakistan. The government, he said, was focusing on creating new employment opportunities through the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme, under which people in their first job in the private sector would be given `15,000 by the government. He added that this is expected to help create about 3.5 crore new jobs.
