Ryder Cup 2025 Team Europe Wildcard Odds: Here are 10 players the bookies reckon Luke Donald could pick

Scotsmana day ago
There's just over a month to go until Europe take on American in the 2025 Ryder Cup, due to be played at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York, from September 26-28.
There's just one competition to go - Betfred British Masters - until we know the sixth player who will automatically qualify for Team Europe alongside Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton.
That will leave six wildcards for captain Luke Donald to pick, with his big announcement coming on September 1.
Three of those are seemingly in the bag - with Spain's Jon Rahm, Sweden's Ludvig Aberg and Norwegian Viktor Hovland all but guaranteed spots.
That leaves just three more spaces - and these are the players the bookies reckon have the best chance of being on the plane.
1 . Shane Lowry - 1/100
Irish star Shane Lowry is in poll position to take the sixth and final automatic place. Even if he didn't it would be hard to see him not taking one of the wildcard choices. No wonder he's an unbackable 1/100 shot to make the team. | Getty Images Photo Sales
2 . Rasmus Hojgaard - 4/9
Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard is the only other player who can take the sixth automatic qualification spot - he needs to finish joint 29th or better in the Betfred British Masters. He's a 4/9 shot for Team Europe. | Getty Images Photo Sales
3 . Aaron Rai - 4/1
English player Aaron Rai had an eye-catching 2024 season. claiming his maiden victory on the PGA Tour at the Wyndham Championship, claiming five other top-10 finishes and making 14 cuts in a row. He seems like the sort of safe pair of hands that could make a mark in the Ryder Cup. He's a 4/1 shot to play. | Getty Images Photo Sales
4 . Nicolai Hojgaard - 5/1
Twin brother to Rasmus, Nicolai Hojgaard has less of a chance of making the team that his sibling. Currently in 25th spot in the Ryder Cup rankings, he's a 5/1 shot. | Getty Images Photo Sales

Keely Hodgkinson eases to victory in Lausanne

Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson produced a dominant display to win the women's 800 metres at the Diamond League meet in Lausanne, with British team-mate Georgia Hunter Bell finishing third. Hodgkinson, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury, returned after a 376-day absence in Silesia last weekend to set a world-leading run of one minute and 54.74 seconds, just behind her own national record. With the World Championships in Tokyo coming up next month, Hodgkinson laid down another marker as she made a strong finish in wet conditions to set a new meeting record of 1:55.69. Hunter Bell had been in second place down the home straight but faded in the closing metres as Switzerland's Audrey Werro ran her down to clock 1:57.55. Hodgkinson, 23, had looked in control from the opening part of the race, sitting second behind the pacemaker at the bell, which she took in 56.04 seconds. With only Prudence Sekgodiso for company heading into the final 300m, Hodgkinson soon pulled clear of the South African to coast towards another impressive victory. Hodgkinson's training partner Hunter Bell, meanwhile, must now decide whether to have another crack at the 800m in Tokyo or focus on the 1,500m where she would be looking to add to her Olympic bronze medal from Paris.

Jake Paul's next fight against pound-for-pound star on Netflix is revealed after talks with Anthony Joshua broke down

Jake Paul will take on Gervonta 'Tank' Davis on November 15th in an exhibition live on Netflix. The Youtuber-turned-boxer had been in talks over a possible showdown with Anthony Joshua but that has not materialised. Instead, Paul will be facing a smaller opponent in the 5ft 5in American on November 14. 'Tank' has never been defeated as a professional and has held the WBA lightweight title since 2003. The 30-year-old will be giving up a significant height and weight advantage against 6ft 1in Paul. Paul responded to confirmation of the fight on X by writing: 'Gervonta has been disrespecting my name for too long. 'His nickname might be Tank, but I'm an FPV drone and I'm about to disable tiny boy. Yes, he's 1 of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. The 5ft 5in Gervonta Davis will be the opponent for Paul, who stands at 6ft 1in 'And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath.' Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and Netflix announced the fight, which will take place at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Davis may be small of stature but packs a punch having knocked out twenty eight of his thirty one opponents to date. He is a controversial character, previously accused of domestic violence in 2023 by Vanessa Posso, who is the mother of Davis' daughter. Posso has since publicly withdrawn her abuse allegations. In July, he was arrested again on a domestic violence charge. As seen in jail records obtained by Daily Mail, Davis is now facing a battery charge after being arrested in the early hours of Friday, June 15 in Miami Beach, Florida. In his latest defense Davis retained the WBA lightweight title via a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. Prior to that result, he was No 8 in the pound-for-pound list and among the very best boxers in the world. His fight with Paul will not place that belt on the line and is purely an exhibition, following on from Paul's clash with Mike Tyson in November 2024. It remains to be seen whether the AJ fight will still materialise next year, though it appears Paul is confident. His reference to going on to 'slaughter Goliath' seems to clearly reference his intention to face the Brit, which would no doubt be his biggest and most dangerous challenge.
