Born in Chicago and raised in Glenview, Iverson attended Southern Illinois University, where he met his wife Judith, and settled in Danville. He worked in both the news and public relations industries, as a reporter for WITY radio, a spokesperson for Danville School District 118, and the Communications Coordinator for the Danville medical center and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center at the University of Illinois.
'Bob always looked at his job as a way to help people, whether it is by providing news, helping the public through community relations, or detailing ways people can cut pollution,' the Iverson family wrote. 'He always took his job seriously, but not himself. He was always quick to have a joke or funny comment about a situation. He enjoyed staying busy in the community and playing Euchre with his friends.'
In addition to his career in journalism and public relations, Iverson was elected twice as a Danville alderman — in 1987 and in 2019 — and he used to be Vice Mayor.

Woman pleads guilty to aggravated robbery at Urbana car dealership
Editor's Note: Video aired in 2023, after police arrested multiple people in connection to the armed robbery at Crispin Auto. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Nearly two years after the crime occurred, a woman has pleaded guilty for her role in an armed robbery at an Urbana dealership in 2023. On June 7, 2023, a Crispin Auto employee was robbed at gunpoint and a car was stolen. The next day multiple people were arrested in a McLean County town. Police officials said the car they were driving in was stolen from an Urbana dealership. Michaella Campbell pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery on Monday. She was ordered to serve 48 months of probation, 180 days in the Champaign County Correctional Center (with credit for 145 days previously served) and 100 hours of public service work. If Cook County approves, the probation will be served in their jurisdiction. WCIA previously reported that surveillance video obtained after the aggravated robbery shows the incident started with a test drive involving an employee and two White women. When the three returned to Crispin Auto, two Black men were recorded on surveillance footage running up to the car as the employee was getting out. One pointed a gun to the back of the employee's head and shoved her out of the way. Seconds later, the same employee was pepper sprayed by one of the women before she got in the car with the other suspects and drove away. Third defendant in U of I pro-Palestine protest pleads guilty to misdemeanor Three other people were arrested alongside Campbell, according to the Urbana Police Department. This included Michael Roberts, Deandre Young and an unnamed female juvenile. Roberts and Young previously pleaded guilty, in June and December of 2024 respectively, to aggravated robbery. They each received 48 months of probation, and a 180-day jail sentence. Roberts received 366 days credited for time served, while Young received 545 days credited for time served. Third defendant in U of I pro-Palestine protest pleads guilty to misdemeanor
URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A Champaign man charged in connection with last year's pro-Palestine protests on the University of Illinois campus reached a plea deal with prosecutors on Monday, becoming the third person to see their case resolved. Court records show that George Vassilatos, 26, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a peace officer while a felony count of mob action was dismissed. Accepting the guilty plea, Judge Matthew Lee then sentenced Vassilatos to 12 months of conditional discharge and 30 hours of community service. Juvenile airlifted, 'injured with knife' after Rantoul domestic incident Vassilatos was the first person to be arrested in connection with the events of April 26, 2024, at the Alma Mater statue on the U of I campus. Shortly before 6 a.m. that morning, a group of protestors pitched tents near the statue in protest of the university's involvement with companies and organizations profiting off of the war in Gaza, which continues to this day. University officials gave the protestors a deadline to take the tents down, saying that pitching tents went against campus policy. When the deadline came and went with tents still up, the University of Illinois Police and Facilities and Services Departments attempted to take the tents down themselves at 8:23 a.m. Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz said Vassilatos resisted officers by linking arms with other protestors. When he was pulled away from the group, Vassilatos went limp and dropped to his knees, causing officers to have to carry him away. He was placed under arrest at 8:26 a.m. UIUC pro-Palestine encampment timeline in photos The protest continued into the afternoon, at which point the number of protestors swelled into the hundreds. Another attempt by police to remove the pitched tents resulted in another struggle between officers and protestors; officers de-escalated the situation by backing away, starting a standoff with the protestors that lasted late into that night. The encampment restarted near Foellinger Auditorium two days later, where it stayed uneventfully for weeks until the school year ended. Vassilatos and eight other people were charged in connection to the unrest. All of the defendants were also charged with felony mob action and misdemeanor obstructing a peace officer and one — Christopher Zelle — was also charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer. Fifth child dies in Chatham after-school tragedy Court records show two of them — Victor Smith and Joseph Kleckner — took plea deals similar to Vassailatos'. They pleaded guilty to obstruction and had mob action dismissed, with sentences of 12 months of conditional discharge and 100 hours of community service. A third defendant, U of I student Yafa Issa, was tried from the bench in April. Similar to the others, she was convicted of obstruction with mob action being dismissed. Sentencing is set for July 3. Three other defendants — Elizabeth Sotiropoulos, Christopher Zelle and Arthur Paganini — are still in the pretrial phase of their cases. The status of the other two defendants are unknown.
