Cabinet to decide on cannabis vape factory issue, says Health Minister
"I will address this issue later. We have to present it to the Cabinet and from there, we will make a collective decision," he said.
He added that several ministries and agencies are involved, such as the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority among others.
"So, we will table this in the Cabinet meeting and reach a collective decision," said Dr Dzulkefly after attending the opening ceremony of the 31st Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) conference at the KL Convention Centre on Monday (June 9).
On Thursday (June 5), Perikatan Nasional health committee chair Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi called for a police investigation into the vape factory in Senai, Johor operated by Ispire Technology Inc, a Nasdaq-listed company based in California, US.
"The manufacturing licence for Ispire's factory in Senai was issued by Mida. However, questions arose as to whether Mida approvals cover the manufacturing of cannabis-related products, which is clearly illegal under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," said the Kuala Langat MP.
The licence granted by Mida to Ispire is touted as Malaysia's first federal licence to produce nicotine products.
The sale of nicotine liquids is regulated under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act.

Rallying-FIA announces tender for new WRC promoter
(Reuters) -Motorsport's governing body announced on Thursday a tender process to replace Red Bull and German investment company KW25 as commercial rights holders of the World Rally Championship (WRC). The International Automobile Federation (FIA) said JPMorgan would act as financial advisor to Red Bull and KW25, who jointly own Munich-based WRC Promoter GmbH -- the commercial arm responsible for media, sponsorship rights, and television production. The promoter, which also oversees the European Rally Championship, took over the WRC rights in 2013 and still had seven years remaining on the contract, according to sources. Reuters reported a year ago that the owners were preparing a potential sale with a target valuation of up to 500 million euros ($581 million). The WRC has been in existence since 1973 and this year features 14 rounds on different continents with the showcase Monte Carlo Rally opening the season in January. "The tender process for the commercial rights holder is a big opportunity for a new enterprise to take the championship into its next chapter with renewed energy and investment," said the FIA's deputy president for sport Malcolm Wilson. "We will work with Red Bull and KW25 to find the best fit for this important role." The FIA said the championship had surged in popularity with a cumulative television audience of 1.3 billion and more than four million on-site visitors in 2024, with huge further growth potential. Paraguay makes its debut hosting a round of the championship this weekend and the sport is looking into a future round in the United States. "I am confident that, together with the right partner, we can take the championship to the next level, preserve its proud heritage, and grow its global reach for generations of fans to come," said FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. AI Helps Improve Accuracy Of Health Diagnosis
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry (MOH) will continue expanding the use of AI in the national healthcare system to improve the accuracy of disease diagnosis, said Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. He said AI has already been applied in several field initiatives, including the Lung Health Initiatives, which utilises diagnostic data, particularly X-rays. '…it is difficult to make a diagnosis, especially for sinister nodules where we cannot tell if it is tuberculosis or not. But AI will help us achieve precision in such diagnoses,' he told Bernama after appearing as a guest on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara programme titled 'Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Healthcare System' tonight. He said AI is rapidly advancing in oncology as well as in cardiology, surgery, general medicine, specialised surgery, and dentistry, as well as various other fields, and is expected to continue growing. 'We will certainly embrace more AI applications and AI research related to health, in the form of research or services,' he said, adding that MOH is committed to implementing such initiatives. Meanwhile, Dr Dzulkefly said MOH practices zero-tolerance against all forms of workplace bullying among its staff as part of efforts to create a safe and harmonious working environment. According to him, from the start of his administration, he had conveyed a firm message that bullying is utterly intolerable, with more than 400 complaints received to date. 'I am confident of saying that the existence of these bullying management guidelines sends a clear warning and exerts pressure on potential workplace bullies within MOH,' he said. He said that creating a fair and safe work environment must start with human values and a character rooted in compassion.

Philippine corporate regulator penalises richest tycoon's firm
MANILA: The Philippines' Securities and Exchange Commission is penalising a property holding firm of the country's richest man for failing to submit reportorial requirements, the latest of a string of brushes between the firm and regulators. The SEC assessed and ordered directors and officers of Villar Land Holdings Corp., owned by billionaire Manuel Villar, to pay an administrative fine of 1 million pesos (US$17,550) per company official named in the order or an aggregate penalty of 12 million pesos, it said in a statement dated Aug 18. Villar Land did not immediately respond to Bloomberg News' request for comment. The fines are in lieu of suspending the company's permit to offer and sell securities, the SEC said. The regulator said it denied Villar Land's request for an extension of its required filings. The regulator also imposed an administrative fine of 2,000 pesos a day on each of the 11 officials named in the order from July 1 until the company submits its 2024 annual report and its first-quarter 2025 report. The company, formerly named Golden MV Holdings Inc., has operations spanning from a cemetery business to commercial hub development. In May, the Philippine Stock Exchange suspended shares trading of three firms led by Villar, who is worth $23.3 billion according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, for their failure to file their 2024 annual reports. - Bloomberg
