Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla writes to PM Modi, demands
Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 3 (ANI): Congress Lok Sabha MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concerns about the security of Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar and demanding that the area be declared a 'no-war zone.' 'I earnestly appeal to the Government of India to initiate steps for NO WAR ZONE and protected status to Sri Harmandir Sahib, under a framework that ensures: Permanent, non-political, high-level security for the shrine like Vatican City. International recognition and protection under humanitarian and interfaith harmony principles as per UNO. A clear mechanism to prevent any future military, political, or strategic targeting of this sacred place,' Aujla said in the letter. Highlighting the global and national significance of the Golden Temple, which is revered by millions worldwide regardless of their religion, Aujla said that it has become urgent to safeguard the sacred institution with 'permanent, non-political, high-level security.' 'In the wake of recent war like situations, it has become an urgent need of the hour to safeguard this sacred institution with the highest level of permanent and global security,' the letter read. His demand comes after Major General Kartik C Seshadri earlier claimed that Pakistan's prime target was the Golden Temple, according to information received from the intelligence, an attempt which was thwarted by the Indian army on May 8. 'A recent claim by a senior officer of the Indian Army, of the rank of Major General, stated that Pakistan Air Force had targeted the Golden Temple. This claim is not only alarming but has raised deep concern among the Sikh community worldwide. Given the sensitive geographical and political nature of the region, such threats-- whether real or perceived--pose a risk to national security and global religious harmony,' the letter further read. 'Any threat to it--real or claimed--has the potential to disturb world peace and affect inter-community trust and harmony. Such perceptions must not be allowed to take root,' Aujla added. (ANI)

Tarn Taran man held for ‘espionage', ‘shared' sensitive info with ISI on army movements during Op Sindoor
'Gagandeep Singh had been in contact with the Pakistan ISI and Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing sensitive information concerning army movements during Operation Sindoor,' DGP Yadav said to the media. The accused has been identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan. Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav said that Singh was arrested on the basis of information received by the Counter-Intelligence unit of Punjab Police. He has been booked under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. New Delhi: The Punjab Police Tuesday said they have arrested a man from Punjab's Tarn Taran who was allegedly in contact with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and a Pakistan-based supporter of Sikh separatism named Gopal Singh Chawla. Investigation has revealed that Singh was allegedly involved in sharing classified information, including details like troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a threat to national security. 'Preliminary investigation reveals that Gagandeep Singh had been in touch with Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the past 5 years, through whom he was introduced to the Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). He also received payments from the PIOs,' DGP Punjab added. The police have said that they have recovered a mobile phone containing intelligence that Singh allegedly shared with the PIOs. It also allegedly contains 20 ISI contacts. 'Thorough financial and technical investigations are underway to trace other linkages and establish the full scope of this espionage network,' the DGP said. This is the latest in a slew of arrests made following the India-Pakistan conflict and India's Operation Sindoor. Over the past few weeks, several individuals have been arrested over allegations of espionage across India. While some have been booked under the Official Secrets Act, others face charges related to threatening India's sovereignty. Earlier last month, a social media influencer from Haryana, Jyoti Malhotra, was also arrested. Meanwhile, two Pakistan embassy staffers were declared persona non grata by India and ousted for indulging in espionage activities. According to investigators, these staffers had been running spy syndicates recruiting Indians to provide them with intelligence. A CRPF personnel who was earlier posted in Pahalgam that witnessed a terror attack on 22 April, where 25 tourists and one local was killed, is in National Investigation Agency's custody. The Delhi Police Special Cell has also launched a crackdown on such rackets. The anti-terror unit has arrested two brothers from Rajasthan's Deeg for allegedly providing SIM cards to PIOs. These SIMs were reportedly used in an attempt to honey trap DRDO officials, with the brothers also receiving training to gather intelligence. Pakistan invites Sikh pilgrims to attend two events in Lahore this month
Pakistan has invited Sikh pilgrims from around the world, including India, to attend two Sikh events in Lahore this month, an official said on Monday, amid tensions between the two countries. 'Death anniversaries of Guru Arjan Dev Ji (Jor Mela) and Maharaja Ranjit Singh will be observed on June 16 and 29, respectively, in Lahore,' Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) spokesperson Ghulam Mohayuddin said. 'For both events, Sikh pilgrims from around the world, including India, are invited,' he added. The EPTB is a statutory board that manages religious properties and shrines of Hindus and Sikhs who had migrated to India following the partition. According to the schedule the ETPB issued, the main religious ceremony, including the Bhog Akhand Path Sahib ritual, will be held on June 16 at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore. The main ceremony at the samadhi of Maharaja Ranjit Singh will be held on June 29. Last year, over 800 and 450 Sikhs had come to Pakistan to attend the two events, respectively. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7. Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions. The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
