Punjab's most notorious and feared drug lord has been put behind bars, claims AAP supremo Kejriwal
Mr. Kejriwal was addressing a gathering at Shaheed Udham Singh Wala town in Sunam (Sangrur district), where he, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, paid floral tributes to iconic revolutionary and freedom fighter Udham Singh in a state-level function to commemorate his 86th martyrdom day.
He said previous regimes ruined Punjab by spreading the curse of drugs and corruption. Mr. Kejriwal said, 'No one had ever dared to touch this influential political leader, who was instrumental in introducing and spreading the drug in the State,' he said, according to an official government statement.
In his address, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann alleged that those in power during previous regimes had misused the freedom to spread the tentacles of 'Chitta' (drugs), amass wealth by plundering the masses, encouraging corruption along with other menaces.
The foundation stone of projects worth around ₹85 crore to give a facelift to Shaheed Udham Singh Wala town was laid during the event.

INDIA bloc's ‘vote chori' march to Election Commission today, cops say ‘no permission granted'
Over 300 MPs from 25 opposition parties will march from the Parliament to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters in the national capital on Monday to protest alleged 'vote chori' (vote theft) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. Congress MPs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Gaurav Gogoi, and other parliamentarians from the INDIA bloc parties at a protest against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, during the Monsoon session of Parliament, in New Delhi, Friday.(PTI) Several parties– including Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC, DMK, AAP, Left parties, RJD, NCP(SP), Shiv Sena (UBT) and National Conference – are expected to join the rally, scheduled to start at 11.30 am from the Parliament's Makar Dwar. However, Delhi Police is unlikely to permit the march to reach the EC office, less than 2 km away. A senior officer, speaking on condition of anonymity told Hindustan Times that no formal request for police permission has been submitted. According to a Congress communique, 'MPs of Opposition parties (LS & RS) to march from Makar Dwar in Parliament to Nirvachan Sadan (Election Commission), New Delhi via Transport Bhawan at 11.30 AM, tomorrow, August 11, 2025.' No INDIA bloc banner; march to feature multi-language posters The protest, called by the INDIA bloc, will be held without the alliance's banner to accommodate AAP, which exited the alliance last month but has 12 MPs in Parliament. 'This is a programme of the Opposition and we expect AAP to join it,' Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose said. A senior Opposition leader said the TMC played a key role in persuading AAP to participate in the march from Parliament to the EC office on Ashoka Road. Protesters plan to carry posters and banners in English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and Marathi to oppose the Bihar SIR exercise and highlight alleged 'vote theft.' On Sunday, the Congress launched a web portal for citizens to register their support and demand accountability from the EC, urging release of digital voter rolls. 'Vote Chori is an attack on the foundational idea of 'one man, one vote'. A clean voter roll is imperative for free and fair elections,' Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi posted on X. 'Our demand from the EC is clear — be transparent and release digital voter rolls so that people and parties can audit them. The fight is to protect the democracy.' Rahul Gandhi's voter fraud allegation Last week, Gandhi alleged that over 100,000 votes were 'stolen' through five types of manipulation in Mahadevapura assembly segment in Karnataka's Bangalore Central constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. 'We started examining the details and discovered that approximately 1,00,250 votes were stolen in the Mahadevapura assembly,' he claimed while presenting the findings at a press conference. The Election Commission, in multiple social media posts, rejected Gandhi's claims as 'incorrect' and has asked him to submit the data of alleged dubious voters under oath.

: At least 25 Opposition parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), will join a mega protest march from Parliament to the office of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the national capital on Monday to mark their protest over the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegations of voter fraud during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. United Oppn to march till ECI office against SIR, 'voter fraud' The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, which planned the protest march, has decided not to use its banner but make the event of the entire Opposition in order to accommodate the AAP, which has 12 lawmakers in Parliament. The AAP had quit the INDIA bloc last month. 'This is a programme of the Opposition and we expect AAP to join it,' said Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose, indicating the INDIA group will show flexibility to accommodate other parties in the Opposition-sponsored events. According to a senior leader, the TMC played a key role in convincing the AAP to join the protest march from Parliament to ECI office on Ashoka Road in Delhi. Over 300 MPs from 25 Opposition parties — including Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC, DMK, AAP, Left parties, RJD, NCP(SP), Shiv Sena (UBT) and National Conference — are expected to join the march, which will start at 11.30 am from Parliament. However, there is a possibility that the Delhi Police might not allow the protest march till EC office, which is less than 2 km from the Parliament complex. A senior officer, requesting anonymity, said no formal police permission has been sought for the planned protest. 'MPs of Opposition parties (LS & RS) to march from Makar Dwar in Parliament to Nirvachan Sadan (Election Commission), New Delhi via Transport Bhawan at 11.30 AM, tomorrow, August 11, 2025,' the Congress said in a communique. Posters and banners in multiple languages such as English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and Marathi will be displayed during the march to protest the ongoing SIR exercise in Bihar and highlight the alleged vote theft. On Sunday, the Congress launched a web portal for people to register and demand accountability from the poll panel against what it called 'vote chori' (vote theft), and express support for the demand for digital voter rolls. 'Vote Chori is an attack on the foundational idea of 'one man, one vote'. A clean voter roll is imperative for free and fair elections,' leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X. 'Our demand from the EC is clear — be transparent and release digital voter rolls so that people and parties can audit them. The fight is to protect the democracy.' Earlier, Gandhi on Thursday cited data from the 2024 Lok Sabha polls to claim over 100,000 votes were 'stolen' through five types of manipulation in an assembly segment in Karnataka. Addressing a press conference, Gandhi had said his party analysed voter data of the Mahadevapura Assembly segment in the Lok Sabha constituency of Bangalore Central from the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. 'We started examining the details and discovered that approximately 1,00,250 votes were stolen in the Mahadevapura assembly,' he had claimed, while taking journalists through an online presentation. In multiple social media posts, ECI has claimed that Gandhi has furnished incorrect information in his press conference last week. The poll body has also repeatedly asked Gandhi to furnish the data of the dubious voters under oath.

Day after heavy rain brings parts of Delhi to halt, AAP alleges ‘desilting scam' linked to ex-chief secy
A day after heavy rain brought parts of the Capital to a standstill, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday accused the BJP-led government of destroying documents to shield former chief secretary Naresh Kumar in a 'drain desilting scam'. The Delhi BJP, however, dismissed the allegations as a 'political stunt.' Citing an RTI reply, Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed Chief Secretary Dharmendra's office denied receiving his complaint on the matter, despite copies being available with the reporters and on social media. 'This is a direct criminal offence…When I wrote this letter last year, I held a press conference and posted it on social media. The BJP government is now saying they have no record of it. This is an attempt to hide corruption, shield Naresh Kumar, and destroy evidence,' Bharadwaj alleged at a press conference. The AAP leader criticised the BJP-led government for failing to resolve the Capital's waterlogging woes. 'Seven people died in one incident when a wall collapsed during rain yesterday. In another heart-wrenching case, a two-and-a-half-year-old drowned in an open sewer outside his house on Raksha Bandhan,' he said. The AAP leader said that the Delhi High Court had ordered a third-party independent audit of desilting works, but claimed the audit had not been carried out despite repeated reminders to the Chief Secretary and letters to the Union Home Ministry. 'When I filed an RTI on July 21 seeking file notings, correspondence, and directions related to my June 13, 2024 complaint, the Chief Secretary's office replied on July 29 that no such letter had been received. This is proof that documents are being destroyed,' Bharadwaj said. In response, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the Kejriwal government had a poor record on desilting. 'Before accusing us, Saurabh Bharadwaj should clarify whether it's not true that between 2015 and 2018, due to the Kejriwal government's failure to carry out desilting, an NGO had to approach the Delhi High Court demanding an audit,' Sachdeva said. He alleged that 'scams' in the name of desilting were committed annually between 2015 and 2024 during AAP rule, and 'under the protection' of the AAP government, involving officials from the Public Works Department, Flood Control Department, and Delhi Jal Board, along with local MLAs. Sachdeva also questioned Bharadwaj's claim about the missing letter. 'The reality of the Kejriwal government was that they would tweet about writing letters to the central government or the LG, but conveniently 'forget' to send them through official channels. Possibly, Bharadwaj did the same — because government offices do not lose letters,' he said.
