Suárez tosses 7 shutout innings, Schwarber hits 22nd homer to lead Philadelphia Phillies past Toronto Blue Jays
Kyle Schwarber hit a three-run homer, Ranger Suárez struck out six in seven shutout innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-0 on Friday night.
Suárez (5-1) continued to shine since his return from an early-season back injury. He allowed seven runs in his first start of the season and has allowed only seven total in his next seven starts.
The Phillies have won three of their last four games and remain in the thick of the NL East hunt, even with key pieces Bryce Harper and Aaron Nola nursing injuries.
Harper fielded groundballs at first base before the game, but has yet to swing the bat or throw as he recovers from right wrist inflammation. A two-time NL MVP, Harper seems unlikely to return from the 10-day injured list when his eligibility is up after the three-game set with the Blue Jays. Nola has an injury in his right ribcage and can't throw for at least two weeks. Nola, who had already been out since early May with a sprained right ankle, said he experienced discomfort when he takes deep breaths, and "obviously, throwing."
Suárez received a standing ovation from Phillies fans when he walked off the mound in the seventh after throwing his 94th pitch.
He got all the help he needed when the Phillies scored four runs off Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman (5-5) in the second inning. Brandon Marsh socked an RBI double off the wall for a 1-0 lead and Schwarber connected on his 22nd homer of the season, a 410-foot shot to dead center that landed just beyond the outstretched glove of Myles Straw.
Otto Kemp, a rookie who played at first base to move Alec Bohm back to his natural third base spot, doubled for his first career extra-base hit in the second and tacked on an RBI single in the sixth for a 5-0 lead.

2025 Philadelphia 76ers mock draft 2.0 including trade down with Pelicans The Philadelphia 76ers will be the team to watch on June 25 when Round 1 of the draft begins. Holding the No. 3 pick, there doesn't appear to be a clear direction in which the team will go in when it coms to building a roster. Led by their star trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers are still contenders in the East. As long as those three are healthy and ready to go, then that's all that matters. However, Philadelphia also needs to add some youth to the roster and the front office knows it. That's why making a selection at No. 3 makes sense, but they could easily trade down and add a win-now player as well as more draft capital, and create more cap flexibility to bring back Quentin Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency. Here is a full, 2-round mock draft for the Sixers including a mock trade with the New Orleans Pelicans: Mock trade Sixers get: Herb Jones, No. 7 pick Pelicans get: Kelly Oubre Jr., Andre Drummond, No. 3 pick Jones was terrific in 2023-24 when he shot 41.8% from deep and was named to the All-Defensive First Team. The Sixers could always use another player with a high IQ to make life easier for the stars and Fears fits that mold. Round 2, pick No. 35: Drake Powell, North Carolina 2024-25 stats: 7.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.1 apg, 0.7 spg, 0.7 bpg, 48.3% FG, 37.9% 3FG A bouncy athlete who can defend multiple positions, Powell can take on the opposition's best scorer on the perimeter and make life tough for him which should be an attractive attribute for a Sixers team that will need to slow down some elite perimeter offensive players in the Eastern Conference. He has a smooth shooting stroke and should be able to step in right away and produce at the NBA level

Red Sox ace Crochet says he was happy to ‘live and die with my best pitch' vs Judge
The Red Sox have had a chance in games whenever Garrett Crochet has been on the mound this season. And with the exception of one pitch in Friday's 2-1, extra-inning win over the Yankees, he again proved to be the antidote to Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. Advertisement Crochet held New York scoreless over a career-high 8 1/3 innings, striking out the Yankees slugger three times while holding the rest of New York's lineup to four hits with seven total Ks. But with Boston clinging to a 1-0 lead and Crochet back on the hill to try to finish the game in the ninth, his fourth time facing Judge proved costly. Crochet took him to a full count, but let his 99 mph fastball dip down in the strike zone — Judge's sweet spot. He jumped on it, blasting it 443 feet over the Green Monster and out of Fenway Park to tie the game. 'I'm going to live and die with my best pitch,' Crochet said afterward. 'Whether it be pitch selection or execution, tough way to end it. But overall, I felt really good tonight.' It helped that Crochet's partner throughout the night — catcher and former Yankee Carlos Narváez — helped put a happy face on the night, when he ended the game with a walk-off single in the 10th. Crochet didn't get the victory, but Narváez said it didn't diminish his masterful night on the mound. Advertisement For the season, Judge is just 1 for 7 with six strikeouts against Crochet. 'Crochet was awesome,' Narváez said. 'He made a mistake a little bit. But that was a 100 mph fastball. That was impressive. ... Probably the best pitcher now against the best hitter in baseball.' Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he has no regrets leaving Crochet in the game. 'That wasn't fun. But our guy was throwing great,' Cora said. 'He was efficient toward the end. We gave him a shot. It didn't work out. That's why (Judge) is who he is. One of the best in world, and he got one pitch down and he hit it out of the ballpark. You tip your hat.' Advertisement Though he acknowledged he'd probably lose sleep over Judge's last at-bat, Crochet was proud of his overall outing. 'It was a special feeling jogging back out there. Standing (ovation). I could tell the fans wanted me out there,' Crochet said. 'I already wanted to be out there pretty bad. But it made it mean a little bit more. It made me grab a little bit more in that inning.
