When India earns respect, Congress feels the pain: Shivraj Singh Chouhan
The Lok Sabha was scheduled to hold a discussion on 'India's First Astronaut on the International Space Station: The Role of the Space Programme in Making India a Developed Nation by 2047'. However, the session was disrupted by heavy sloganeering and chaos led by the Congress and other opposition MPs.
In a video message, Chouhan expressed deep disappointment and said, 'There are moments in a nation's journey that should transcend political divisions. Whenever India has experienced a moment of pride, the entire country has rejoiced — but Congress has cried foul, raised doubts.'
He cited examples, including India's successful Chandrayaan mission landing on the Moon's South Pole, the surgical strikes by the Indian Army, and Operation Sindoor, saying that while the nation stood united in pride, Congress chose to question and criticise.
'Be it air strikes or our military's decisive operations, while the whole country applauds our forces, Congress keeps asking: 'But how much damage was done?' he said.
Referring to India's scientific achievement during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chouhan said: 'Our scientists developed a vaccine, and under the Prime Minister's leadership, over 100 countries received it. Lives were saved. But Congress dismissed it as 'Modi's vaccine' and warned people against taking it.'
Highlighting the recent space mission, Chouhan lauded Shubhanshu Shukla, India's astronaut who visited the International Space Station, calling him a symbol of national pride.
'At a time when the nation was ready to welcome him with open arms and Parliament was to discuss his historic achievement, Congress created chaos in the Well of the House. Shouldn't all parties, regardless of affiliation, have united to honour him?'
He added, 'The world is looking at India with amazement as we progress and grow — was it too much to expect Congress to participate constructively in such a discussion?'
Taking a sharp dig, Chouhan remarked, 'Why does Congress experience pain whenever India's global prestige grows? Their noise, protests, and doubts only serve to dishonour those who bring glory to the country. Is this what they call patriotism? The entire nation is watching — and Congress will have to answer.'

Addressing a gathering here, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha said the Election Commission was asking him to file an affidavit even after the poll body's "vote theft" had been caught. "I want to tell the EC that the whole country will ask you to give an affidavit. Give us some time, we will catch your theft in every assembly and Lok Sabha seat, and put it before the people," he said. "What did they do? Like PM (Narendra) Modi ji talks of a special package, the EC has brought a new special package for Bihar named SIR, which means a new form of vote theft," Gandhi said as he wound up the second day of the yatra at Khalees Park Chowk, Gaya Ji along with his Mahagathbandhan allies.

Assembly plunges into pandemonium over Dharmasthala row
The Legislative Assembly plunged into pandemonium on Monday over the case of alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala, with the ruling and the Opposition members indulging in heated exchange of words. Speaker U.T. Khader had to adjourn the House for 30 minutes to let tempers cool. Trouble began during the reply of Home Minister G. Parameshwara on the Dharmasthala row, when BJP member V. Sunil Kumar accused the Congress government of supporting the efforts by some groups to tarnish the image of Dharmasthala and other centres of Hinduism. Countering the Home Minister's claims that the intention of probing the alleged mass burials through a Special Investigation Team was to bring out the truth, Mr. Sunil Kumar alleged: 'More than bringing out the truth, the government intends to tarnish Dharmasthala's image.' This triggered angry response from the ruling benches with several senior Ministers including M.B. Patil and Dinesh Gundu Rao taking exception. Following this, the Speaker suggested to the BJP member to withdraw his remarks. Refusing to do so, Mr. Sunil Kumar upped the ante by alleging that the Congress government was supporting such efforts as per instructions of its high command. 'This is evident with the fact that the government is yet to file any case against YouTubers who have been carrying out such propaganda,' he argued. 'However, now the government is trying to play a balancing act as people are anguished over these developments,' he maintained. Referring to the complainant who has levelled allegations of mass burials in the pilgrimage centre, he alleged: 'It is not just one masked man; there are multiple masked men operating from Delhi, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.' This plunged the House into pandemonium as incensed ruling members began a counter-attack. They accused the BJP of mixing politics with religion for selfish gains, while the BJP members too continued their attack. As chaos gripped the House, the Speaker adjourned the House again for some time.

Indian drugmakers seek exemption for generics from US supplies probe
Mumbai: A US government probe into pharmaceutical imports and their implications on national security must exclude generic drugs from its purview, a business delegation from the Indian pharmaceutical industry told Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal at a meeting held last local industry's contention assumes significance in the backdrop of the impending India-US bilateral trade agreement and the uncertainty over reciprocal tariffs being imposed by the US government. So far, the US has exempted pharmaceutical imports from the proposed tariffs of 50%, half of which are to kick in on August 27. Experts said that the issues related to supplies of medicines from India to the US are critical given the plans of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit China for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting later this month in Tianjin. In April, under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, 1962, the US government had initiated an investigation into imports of medicines to the country, sparking concerns over potential supply chain disruptions and pricing volatility there. The law grants authority to the US President to impose restrictions on such imports if those are deemed to threaten US national security. People familiar with the mater told ET that the meeting with the pharmaceutical industry was called by the commerce ministry to discuss a range of issues, including ways to tackle abrupt disruptions and to strengthen the industry with closer attention to new research and innovation. A note in May from global consulting firm EY said that historically, Section 232 has been used to justify tariffs on steel, aluminium and automobiles.
