The UFC is in Des Moines, Iowa, for this week's UFC Fight Night card. In the main event of the UFC Des Moines fight card, former interim UFC bantamweight title challenger Cory Sandhagen faces ex-UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo in a 135-pound matchup. In the high-stakes co-main event, Reiner de Ridder faces Bo Nickal in a middleweight contest that will leave one fighter with their first loss under the UFC banner. Below, we look at betting odds, line movement, picks, and predictions for the De Ridder vs. Nickal matchup.

Reinier de Ridder (19-2) joined the UFC in 2024. De Ridder was a two-division champion with ONE, claiming titles in the middleweight and light heavyweight weight classes.
A talented grappler with 11 career submission victories before inking his UFC deal, De Ridder is 2-0 with the UFC, picking up submission wins over Gerald Meerschaert and Kevin Holland.
De Ridder's victory over Holland put him in the official UFC middleweight rankings, where he sits in the No. 13 spot.
I wrote the following about De Ridder after his win over Holland, "Reinier de Ridder looked excellent in his second UFC fight. The former two-division ONE champion won in his UFC debut over Gerald Meerschaert in November, but he looked a bit reserved and willing to accept positions as they came. He did not resemble that fighter at all at UFC 311, dominating Kevin Holland.
'De Ridder scored a takedown early in the first round and then used his striking and grappling skills to control Holland, opening a cut on Holland before securing a rear-naked choke submission.'

Bo Nickal (7-0) joined the UFC in 2023 after one fight on an iKON FC card and two bouts on the Dana White Contender Series. Nickal won those contests by stoppage in the first round (two submissions, one KO). None of the matchups went past 62 seconds of the first round.
Since his debut with the promotion in March 2023, Nickal has compiled a 4-0 UFC record with two submissions, one knockout and one decision. In his most recent outing, Nickal went the three-round distance with Paul Craig on the pay-per-view portion of the UFC 309 fight card.
Known for his wrestling, Nickal was a three-time NCAA champion under Cael Sanderson at Penn State, did not attempt a single takedown against Craig. Instead, he focused on developing his striking game in that matchup.
I wrote the following after that win:
Bo Nickal went 15 minutes for the first time in his MMA career against Paul Craig at UFC 309. While Nickal looked decent against Craig, the fight showed that he needs some more seasoning before he's ready to compete against the elite of the UFC's middleweight division.
Nickal needs to work on his striking and distance management. Craig, who is not an elite striker, did a decent job in keeping Nickal at distance, but Nickal was able to land with power, by throwing some somewhat sloppy strikes. Nickal came into UFC 309 with a lot of hype behind him. I don't think that hype disappears after UFC 309, but Nickal's performance showed he has a lot of work to do.
Nickal did not break into the UFC middleweight rankings with his victory over Craig.

Nickal opened as a -250 betting favorite over De Ridder, who was a +210 betting underdog when odds were first released for this matchup. Today, according to BetOnline, Nickal is a -330 favorite over the +270 De Ridder.

Neither of these fighters are known for their striking, but Nickal has at least made an effort to improve that aspect of his MMA game, and that could be a difference maker in this matchup. While De Ridder will probably have a grappling advantage over Nickal if he can put the NCAA wrestler on the mat, getting someone like Nickal to the ground is going to be an enormous problem for De Ridder.
Nickal and his team likely know that De Ridder is not a good striker, and their goal will be to keep the fight standing. The betting pick is for Nickal to beat De Ridder by knockout.

Andreas Gustafsson took back-to-back weight cuts in stride at UFC 316: 'That's life' Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Andreas Gustafsson post-fight interview UFC 316 winner Andreas Gustafsson spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Khaos Williams. NEWARK, N.J. – Andreas Gustafsson met the media Saturday after his win over Khaos Williams at UFC 316. Gustafsson (12-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Williams (15-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC) on the preliminary card at Prudential Center. He was an underdog in the fight, but also took the matchup on a week's notice. Gustafsson was set to fight a week prior against Jeremiah Wells, but had an opponent switch to Trevin Giles on short notice. Then Giles suffered an injury on weigh-in day that canceled the fight. Gustafsson got pushed to a bigger event at UFC 316, but had to endure the drama of changing matchups and the annoyance of back-to-back weight cuts. 'It's a long and never-ending fight week – the first week when you have weight, and then you have to start over,' Gustafsson said at his post-fight news conference. 'That's life. It feels great (to win).' Check out Gustafsson's post-fight news conference in the video above.

Ex-Colorado Buffaloes WR trying out for Broncos at minicamp

Ex-Colorado Buffaloes WR trying out for Broncos at minicamp The Denver Broncos brought in a local wide receiver for a tryout this week. Former Colorado Buffaloes receiver Will Sheppard attended mandatory minicamp on a tryout basis on Tuesday, according to a report from the Denver Post's Luca Evans. Evans previously spotted Broncos coach Sean Payton chatting up Sheppard at CU's pro day earlier this year. Sheppard posted 40-yard dash times of 4.56 and 4.54 seconds, a 40.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump at the pro day. He was not picked during the NFL draft in April but is now getting a chance to impress at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit. Sheppard (6-2, 198 pounds) spent four years at Vanderbilt before transferring to Colorado last fall. He totaled 48 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, ending his five-year college career with 200 catches for 2,688 yards and 27 touchdowns in 55 games. As of the time of publication, Sheppard has not signed. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

NEWARK, N.J. – Wang Cong met the media Saturday after her win over Ariane da Silva at UFC 316. Cong (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) outworked da Silva (17-11 MMA, 6-8 UFC) for a unanimous decision on the preliminary card at Prudential Center. The fight was marred by a huge weight miss from da Silva – 7 pounds – and subsequent 25 percent penalty paid to Cong. But she said she should have finished da Silva and should have been 'crazy like 'The Joker.'' A decade ago, Cong beat current UFC women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in a kickboxing match, and now has her sights set on her in MMA. 'I feel like this fight showed where I am, and I'm ready to go back and train crazy,' Cong said through her translator after the win. Check out Cong's post-fight news conference in the video above.
