Pakistan seal ICC Women's World Cup spot after beating Thailand in qualifier
Opting to bat first at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan posted a competitive 205 for 6 in 50 overs, anchored by a composed 80-run knock from opener Sidra Amin, who struck nine boundaries in her 105-ball stay.
Pakistan's top order wobbled early, slipping to 85 for 4, with Shawaal Zulfiqar (6), Muneeba Ali (18), Aliya Riaz (7), and Sidra Nawaz (11) falling cheaply. However, a match-turning 97-run stand off 95 balls between Sidra and skipper Fatima Sana revived the innings.
Captain Fatima Sana remained unbeaten on 62 off 59 balls, hitting six fours and a six, accelerating the scoring rate in the final overs and guiding Pakistan past the 200-mark.
Thailand's bowlers kept things tight for much of the innings, with Thipatcha Putthawong returning figures of 2 for 26, while Maya and Kamchomphu chipped in with a wicket apiece.
In response, Thailand were bowled out for 118 in 34.4 overs, unable to handle Pakistan's disciplined bowling attack. Fatima Sana starred again with the ball, claiming 3 for 33 in 8 overs.
Nashra Sandhu and Rameen Shamim were equally effective, taking three wickets each to dismantle Thailand's batting lineup.
No Thai batter managed to reach 20, with Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scoring with 19. Only three others reached double digits as regular wickets disrupted any hopes of a chase.
This win marked Pakistan's fourth consecutive victory in the qualifiers, securing their spot in the 2025 Women's World Cup and reaffirming their form heading into the mega event.

Muneeba hits ton as Pak register record win against Ire
Wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali struck her second T20I century to lead Pakistan Women to a consolation eight-wicket win against Ireland Women in the third and final T20I of the series here at the Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin on Sunday afternoon. Muneeba's 100 not out off 68 balls led Pakistan over the line as they chased the 156-run target with 14 balls to spare. The left hander remains the only Pakistan batter to register a T20I century in Women's T20Is after she first achieved the feat against the same opposition in February 2023 off 66 balls. This is also Pakistan's highest successful chase in Women's T20Is and joint-highest second innings score surpassing their previous successful chase of 151-run target against South Africa in Karachi in 2023. In pursuit of the chase, Pakistan finished the Powerplay with 55 runs on the board for the loss of opening batter Shawaal Zulfiqar and Natalia Parvaiz, who was promoted up the order. Muneeba opened the innings with a hat-trick of fours against Prandergast before striking another six fours and one six in the following five overs. No.4 batter Aliya Riaz combined with the southpaw from Karachi to produce a magnificent unbeaten 101-run stand off 70 balls for the third wicket, which is also just the fourth century stand for Pakistan. Muneeba has been part of two of two such stands. Muneeba brought up her half-century of 29 balls, while at the halfway mark Pakistan required 72 runs. Aliya contributed a 27-ball 39 not out with the help of five fours as Pakistan chased the total in 17.4 overs. The winning run also brought up Muneeba's record century comprising 14 fours and one six. For Ireland, Ava Canning and Lara McBride picked up one wicket each. Earlier, Ireland got off to a rapid start with skipper Gaby Lewis (36, 22b, 8x4s) and Amy Hunter (29, 33b, 3x4s, 1x6) jotting together 52-run opening stand off 32 balls. Player of the series Orla Prandergast struck 64 not out, off 46 balls hitting eight boundaries to steer the home team to 155-4 in 20 overs. For Pakistan, Rameen Shamim, Waheeda Akhtar, Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana dismissed one batter each. Scores in brief Match 3 of 3: Pakistan beat Ireland by eight wickets at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ireland 155-4, 20 overs (Orla Prandergast 64 not out, Gaby Lewis 36, Amy Hunter 29; Rameen Shamin 1-18) Pakistan 156-2, 17.4 overs (Muneeba Ali 100 not out, Aliya Riaz 29 not out; Ava Canning 1-17) Player of the match – Muneeba Ali (Pakistan Women) Player of the series – Orla Prandergast (Ireland Women)

India look to break ‘final barrier' in Women's World Cup
MUMBAI: India captain Harmanpreet Kaur on Monday said the team was determined to break the 'final barrier' and lift their first Women's World Cup cricket title this year after missing out twice previously. The 13th edition of the women's showpiece 50-over tournament will begin on September 30, with co-hosts India set to face Sri Lanka in the opener in Bengaluru. The Indian women made it to two ODI World Cup finals but lost on both occasions – going down to England by nine runs the last time around in 2017 at Lord's. Kaur, who made a valiant 51 runs in the final, will be leading India for the first time in the marquee tournament. 'Playing in front of a home crowd is always special, and hopefully, this time we will give our 100 percent and finally break that barrier that all Indian fans are waiting for,' Kaur said. 'World Cups are always special, and we always want to do something special' for the country, she said at an International Cricket Council event in Mumbai. Kaur's India are fresh from a series win in England, where they beat the hosts 3-2 in T20 matches and 2-1 in three 50-overs games. '(The confidence is) very high. The kind of cricket we've played over the last couple of years, gives us a lot of confidence,' said the top-order batter. India opener Smriti Mandhana said the women's team has witnessed a change in mindset over the years. 'There's a calmness with which I want to go about on the field,' said Mandhana at the event, which marked the 50-day countdown to the tournament. 'Our whole team is heading in that direction. We know where we want to work hard. And when we enter the field, we know we've just got to implement.' Pakistan will play all their matches in Colombo as part of a compromise deal that allows both India and Pakistan to play at neutral venues in multi-nation tournaments. The final will be played on November 2 either in Bengaluru or Colombo, depending on whether Pakistan reach the title clash.
