Photo: John Davidson/ Pakistan will play all their women's 50-over World Cup matches in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo when India hosts this year's tournament, the International Cricket Council said on Monday. Politically-estranged India and Pakistan, who have not played a bilateral series since 2013, will play their matches in neutral venues when either country hosts an ICC event, the sport's global governing body announced in December. "The venues for the knockouts are dependent on Pakistan qualifying as two alternative venues have been identified for one semi-final and the final," the ICC said. "Colombo will be the venue for the first semi-final and the final only if Pakistan qualify for those stages." Bengaluru, where the tournament will start with India playing in the opening match, will host the final on November 2 if Pakistan are knocked out earlier in the tournament, the ICC added. Bengaluru will also stage the second semi-final on October 30, a day after the first semi-final in Colombo or Guwahati. Visakhapatnam and Indore are the two other host cities for the eight-team tournament. India played all their matches in Dubai when Pakistan hosted the men's Champions Trophy this year, including the final which they won. Both the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League were suspended last month amid clashes between the two countries following an attack targeting tourists that killed 26 people in Kashmir in April. Matches resumed after a ceasefire was announced. The neutral venue arrangement between the countries will also be in place for the men's T20 World Cup in 2026, which India will co-host with Sri Lanka, and the women's T20 World Cup in 2028 in Pakistan. - Reuters

Pakistan set to play Women's Cricket World Cup games in Sri Lanka as hybrid hosting model revealed

Pakistan appear set to play their games at the India-hosted Women's Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka after Colombo was confirmed as a venue for the eight-team tournament. Fatima Sana's side booked their spot at the tournament alongside Bangladesh at the final qualifying tournament, with the West Indies among those to miss out. Pakistan will not travel to India, however, necessitating a neutral venue for their games in a situation similar to the men's Champions Trophy when India's men played their games in the United Arab Emirates rather than travel to their bordering nations. Tensions have since flared in the Kashmir region between the two countries, with a ceasefire agreed on 10 May after three days of conflict. Colombo's R. Premadasa Stadium has joined four venues in India on the list of grounds that will hold games at the tournament in September and October. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru), ACA Stadium (Guwahati), Holkar Stadium (Indore), ACA-VDCA Stadium (Visakhapatnam) will also be in use, with the hosts opening the tournament on 30 September in Bengaluru. The first semi-final will take place in Guwahati on 29 October, or in Colombo if Pakistan qualify. The second semi-final to be played the following day on 30 October in Bengaluru. The final will be played on 2 November in either Bengaluru or Colombo, again depending on if Pakistan progress to that stage. India last hosted a major women's tournament in 2016, when Pakistan travelled to the country for the Women's T20 World Cup. It last hosted the marquee tournament in the format in 2013. Defending champions Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and South Africa join the hosts and two qualifiers at the event.

Tomorrow's encounter will be live-streamed on Tapmad in Pakistan and on PCB Official YouTube channel outside Pakistan. The match will also be broadcast live on Geo Super. The winner of the tournament will not just take the trophy home, but will also receive PKR 1.5 million, while the runners-up will get PKR one million. Conquerors have the chance to complete the double of domestic Women's events as they are also the reigning champions of National Women's One-Day Tournament, which culminated in December 2024. In addition, individual awards will be presented to players for outstanding performances in the 22-match tournament, which began on 7 May. Players to watch out for in the final Conquerors topped the points table with five wins from eight outings. They qualified directly for the final owing to a superior net run-rate compared to the Challengers and Stars. Skipper Fatima is leading the batting charts with 339 runs from seven innings, with two half-centuries. She has scored runs at the strike-rate of 163.77. In the bowling unit, Fatima is among the wickets, having claimed 10 wickets from eight matches at an economy rate of 7.08. She has been well supported by Syeda Aroob Shah, who with her leg-spin bowling has also bagged 10 wickets from eight outings, with three for 24 her best figures in the match. Conquerors captain Fatima Sana: "Our team has done well in the tournament and we are focused on producing a strong performance in the final against the Stars. "Our batters and bowlers have delivered consistently and I expect similar performances from the team in the final. "Stars team has done well. They had a good Qualifier against the Challengers and we expect an exciting game of cricket tomorrow." Stars like Conquerors finished the group stage with 10 points, but on below net run-rate they had to feature in a Qualifier against Rameen Shamim's Challenger. They edged past the Challengers by six runs to secure their place in Saturday's final. Sidra Amin, like her Conquerors' counterpart, has been prolific with the bat. The right-handed batter has scored 328 from nine innings, including four half-centuries at an average of 46.86 and a strike-rate of 129.64. In the bowling department, spinners have done wonders for Stars. Tuba Hassan and Anosha Nasir have taken 12 wickets each from nine matches. Leg-spinner Tuba has bowled at an economy rate of 5.77, while left-arm spinner Anosha has maintained an economy rate of 6.09. Waheeda Akhtar has snapped 10 wickets at an economy of 5.07. Stars captain Sidra Amin: "Our team consists of young players. They have shown great resilience throughout the tournament and our spinners have played a pivotal role in helping us reach the final. "We have beaten the Conquerors twice in the group stage and we will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow's big game as well."

Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce becomes ICC Women's Player of the Month for April

New Delhi [India], May 14 (ANI): Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce has been named the ICC Women's Player of the Month for April 2025 for her outstanding performance during the Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced. The 27-year-old all-rounder beat Pakistan's Fatima Sana and West Indies' Hayley Matthews -- both team captains and top performers -- to win the monthly honour, as per ICC's official website. Bryce was named Player of the Tournament at the Qualifiers after scoring the most runs. She finished with 293 runs in five matches, with an impressive average of 73.25. Her tally included a century and two half-centuries. Her best performance came in a match against Ireland, where she scored an unbeaten 131 runs off 137 balls -- the highest individual score in the tournament. 'It's a real honour to win this award,' Bryce said. 'Knowing that it's being voted for by the global cricket community makes it that extra bit special; even just to be nominated alongside two players of the stature of Fatima Sana and Hayley Matthews, who both had fantastic tournaments themselves, was amazing.' Bryce also contributed with the ball, taking six wickets during the tournament. While Scotland did not qualify for the World Cup to be held in India later this year, they had a strong start with a memorable win against the West Indies. Reflecting on the tournament, Bryce said, 'The World Cup Qualifier was a fantastic competition for our Scotland team. The way that we played our cricket and developed and grew in a format that we've not played a huge amount of together was great to see, and it was terrific to have a lot of different players standing up and taking charge of the game at various moments.' She added, 'Across the board during the entire tournament in Pakistan, the standard of cricket was brilliant, and all the games were close. It was a wonderful tournament to be a part of, and hopefully, we'll have more opportunities to build on the momentum we created there.' Scotland finished fourth in the standings with four points from five games.(ANI)
