‘Off the rails' period drama exposing famous family scandals streaming for free
A promising new period drama about one of Britain's most infamous families is now streaming for free
U and U&Drama is now home to one of the most riveting and shocking period dramas of the year - and you can stream it completely for free.
Premiering on the free streaming service today (Thursday, 19th June), the six-part series follows a group of aristocratic sisters who become notorious for their high-society antics and radical political views in the 1930s.
Set in the years building up to World War II, writer Nancy Mitford (played by Bessie Carter) becomes renowned for her novels while some of her sisters begin to fraternise with fascists and Nazi sympathisers.
Outrageous is now streaming and is a must-watch for fans of Downton Abbey, The Buccaneers and series that peer behind the curtains of the darker periods of British history.
Speaking to Reach at the series' premiere in London, several cast members shared what makes the new drama by writer Sarah Williams live up to its name.
Deborah Mitford star Orla Hill said: 'It's so off the rails that you wouldn't really believe it was real.
'You might think someone had made it up and then it would never get made because it was so crazy.'
Her co-star Isobel Jesper Jones (Diana Mitford) added: 'I think it's outrageous that you have this many female characters in it. You could make an entire series of just one of them.'
And Zoe Brough (Jessica Mitford) admitted: 'I just can't believe that it hasn't been done before.
'You would think that when pitching these stories of the Mitford sisters that you were making it up.
'It's mixed with so much humour, tragedy, extremism, radicalism. It's all twists and turns, it's overwhelming, so the audience won't know where the trajectories of the characters are going from start to finish.'
Reviews are already pouring in for the series and it's clear to see Outrageous is shaping up to be one of the best new historical dramas of 2025 - possibly of the whole decade.
Collider gave the series a rave 9/10 write-up, saying: 'Whether you know about the Mitford sisters or not, Outrageous is still worth watching, as it delivers a polarizing, relevant, and lush '30s period drama, both dazzling us and stripping off our rose-tinted glasses.'
Decider agreed with their take, adding: 'Outrageous conjures up an impressive feat by balancing multiple acts.
'It's a historic drama that speaks to the here and now, a serious exploration of politics that's also full of fluff, and a classic British drama that feels young and cool.'
And AV Club says: 'Despite being set almost a century ago, Outrageous couldn't feel more timely.
'[While] it is a fun romp packed with delicious 1930s fashions, illicit affairs, and sibling feuds, [...] it's also a harrowing chronicle of the rise of fascism in Europe.
'That's quite an audacious elevator pitch. But against all odds, the show masterfully blends witty dialogue with a dire historical warning.'
This must-watch series is certainly not your average period drama, but there's certainly enough intrigue, twists and shocking revelations to keep viewers hooked.
Outrageous premieres Thursday, 19th June on U, U&Drama and BritBox.

Stylish racegoers out in force for Royal Ascot Ladies' Day
Towering headgear inspired by Jane Austen, recycled creations and even fluttering butterflies were some of the designs worn by racing fans. In sweltering temperatures spectators swept into the famous Berkshire racecourse before the feature race of the week, the Gold Cup, with the winning jockey and trainer receiving their prizes from the King and Queen. Milliner Viv Jenner did not waste a past creation but recycled a striking circular yellow and pink design for Ladies' Day: 'It's all about sustainable fashion, I wore this hat in 2022. 'It's been sitting in a box in storage for years and I thought rather then make a new one I'd give it a new lease of life and rework it, after finding this lovely yellow dress. 'Bringing a bit of sunshine to Royal Ascot, if we needed any more.' Milliner Viv Jenner, wearing her sustainable fashion hat, takes a selfie during Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot (Andrew Matthews/PA) The royal family will be out in force for a third-day of racing, with the Princess Royal and husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, joined by Anne's daughter Zara Tindall and her husband, former England rugby star Mike Tindall, in the royal box. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will also be among the royal party with Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. A racegoer modelling an Odette and Elliott hat created for fashion designer Francini Keiser (John Walton/PA) Outlandish hats were the order of the day but one racegoer was carrying a novel handbag – in the shape of a watering can. Olivia Harrell was making her first visit to Royal Ascot and was dressed head to toe in vintage finds from charity shops and said about her handbag: 'This is from Paris I bought it for just 30 euros.' Fashion designer Francini Keiser and two models were wearing outfits inspired by the 1960s she created and they all wore distinctive hats by her friend the milliner Odette and Elliott. Ms Keiser, whose hat featured dyed swan feathers, said: 'It's my first time here it's just an extraordinary experience. All these hats are just amazing and the spirit of the people, everyone is dressed up. We're also very excited to see the racing and the King.' Outlandish hats were the order of the day (Andrew Matthews/PA) Royal Ascot stalwart Tracy Rose wore a dress and towering hat she made inspired by Georgian fashion to mark the 250th birthday of author Jane Austen. She said: 'This is a contemporary homage to the bonnet, the dress also owes something to the bonnet which could be a first and I began designing everything at the start of the year.' In 2022 Mrs Rose founded the Racing For All Diversity Campaign to encourage people of all backgrounds to enjoy a day at the races. Speaking about the appeal of Royal Ascot she said: 'It's so British, it's such a party atmosphere and everybody just wants to be outstanding and have fun with their fashion, which I just love. I'm loving everybody looking wonderful.'

Where is Clarkson's Farm and can I visit Diddly Squat farm shop and the Farmer's Dog pub?
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) JEREMY Clarkson leads the rest of the Diddly Squat gang as the show returns for its fourth season. While Diddly Squat Farm and Farm Shop have been somewhat of an attraction since the show's debut in 2021, the unveiling of Jeremy's new pub has made a lot of people wonder if they can visit. Diddly Squat Farm Shop and the Farmer's Dog are both open to visitors! After a brief closure to the Farm Shop earlier this year, fans can now visit again and make a trip to the idyllic Cotswolds. The exact location of the Farm Shop is 5-12 Chipping Norton Road, Chadlington, Chipping Norton, OX7 3PE. Once there, fans will be able to experience some of the key locations featured on the Clarkson-fronted show. While visiting the site, many will hope to catch a glimpse of the rising stars of the show, including fan favourite Kaleb Cooper, straight-man and farm management consultant Charlie Ireland, the humorous Gerald Cooper, plus farm shop front-woman and Jezza's partner, Lisa Hogan. The iconic shop has become a public attraction since it opened, with thousands flocking to it each year, much to the dislike of some of the community. For visitors coming from outside the Cotswolds, the trip can take two hours from central London by car, or two and a half hours by public transport. If fans are staying nearby there is the X9 bus from The Bell Hotel in Charlbury that will take them straight past the 1000 acres site and near the Farm Shop. 3 Queues are a common feature at the popular farm shop in the Cotswolds Credit: SWNS Previously, the farm also had a functioning restaurant on location called The Big View Café, but this was shut down due to excessive traffic. In response, this series of the hit show followed the former Top Gear presenter's trials and tribulations of trying to open a pub. Viewers watched each episode as Jeremy struggled to find a suitable pub for his new venture, despite the sheer number of venues available. Finally, Jeremy found a pub, which was formerly known as the Windmill, and renovated and renamed it to the Farmer's Dog. The latest weapon in Jeremy's farming armoury is located off the Asthall Barrow Roundabout, Burford OX18 4HJ. As it is a working farm, visitors are best to stick to the Farm Shop and Pub - so do not expect to see Jeremy riding around in his infamous Lamborghini tractor. 3 The renamed pub opened last year and is already a popular destination Credit: Adrian Sherratt What can you expect at The Farmer's Dog? The pub, which champions British farmers, is sure to be on top of fans' bucket lists. Jeremy's main reason behind opening the pub was that he wanted everything to come from British farms within a certain radius, so don't expect to see any Heinz ketchup on offer. Instead, visitors to the pub can treat themselves to the steak pie, ham hock terrine, rhubarb crumble, and a wide range of other menu items, all knowing that it has come from local farmers. Since the pub opened, it has been extremely busy, and after the show aired, its popularity has soared. And so, for fans hoping to pay a visit in the near future, you may have to wait a while. Bookings for the new Oxfordshire landmark open each month but get snapped up fast, with forums set up on social media helping fans get their chance to visit.

'Mind-bending' horror film available to stream for free as sequel wows critics
A classic British horror film dubbed 'mind-bending' is now available to watch on a completely free streaming service as its sequel lands in cinemas. 28 Days later was added on online just days ago in a perfectly coordinated move to have it line up with the holy anticipated continuation of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's series. As of today, UK fans can see 28 Years Later on opening day across the country, with the new movie having already wowed critics and claimed a 95% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. But if anyone needs to catch up or reacquaint themselves with the original 2002 flick starring Cillian Murphy, which cemented his career, 28 Days Later is now streaming on BBC iPlayer. Kicking off what would become a franchise – there was a less well-received follow-up in 2007, 28 Weeks Later, which Boyle and Garland only executive produced – 28 Days Later reinvigorated the zombie horror flick. Audiences were introduced to Jim (Murphy), a bicycle courier who wakes up in a hospital bed after an accident to discover a deserted London. While he has been in a coma over the course of nearly a month, the accidental release of a highly contagious, aggression-inducing virus has caused the breakdown of society. This blood-born Rage Virus instantly transforms its victims into the zombie-like Infected, who have a taste for human flesh. 28 Days Later also starred Christopher Eccleston, Naomie Harris and Brendan Gleeson and is considered one of the best UK films of the 21 st century. Boasting an 87% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes – and 85% from fans – the first film was dubbed 'truly innovative' and 'a wild cocktail of campy, gory fun'. 'The best purely British horror/science-fiction film in decades,' declared Empire Magazine, while Atlantic City Weekly added: 'You relish the fun as you jump out of your skin.' But now, over two decades later, the verdict is in on 28 Years Later, with critics appearing thrilled by the new film. In my five-star review for Metro, I called it 'one of the most triumphant ever revitalisations of a franchise that transcends the idea of mere genre' as well as 'the most heart-wrenching, emotionally involving horror film I have ever watched', which also turned the gore and terror up to 11. I also praised its emotional power and 'exquisite' tension. In another top-mark review, Ed Potton for The Times called 28 Years Later 'an astonishing piece of work'. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'The sense of hallucinogenic sweatiness won't be to everyone's taste but [Garland] and Boyle should be applauded for taking such big swings and having the flair and confidence to pull them off,' he added. 'Of all the things I expected going into 28 Years Later, the last thing on my mind was beauty. But here it is in abundance. Bounding far beyond the premise of most zombie movies, Boyle and Garland continually push our expectations onto the back foot,' read ScreenHub's five-star review. 'This is an unusually soulful coming-of-age movie considering the number of spinal cords that get ripped right of bodies,' mused Jake Cole for Associated Press. In 28 Years Later, with the British mainland now quarantined – and patrolled by boats – survivors of the Rage Virus have been left to fend for themselves in the intervening years. More Trending Newcomer Alfie Williams stars as Spike, a 12-year-old living on a small island community that has protected itself thanks to its connecting causeway, only traversable at low tide. His father Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) takes him on his first hunting trip to the mainland, but Alfie sees a glimmer of hope there for helping his ill mother Isla (Jodie Comer) receive a diagnosis – no matter the danger. The film also stars Ralph Fiennes and Jack O'Connell. 28 Days Later is currently streaming on BBC iPlayer. 28 Years Later is in UK cinemas now. Got a story?
