Uddhav Plans Party Dinner To Keep Flock Together Ahead Of Key Polls

NDTV3 hours ago

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray is scheduled to host a dinner for party MPs and MLAs in Bandra on Friday, in what is perceived as a strategic move to keep the flock together ahead of the crucial elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai and civic bodies across the state.
Several party leaders have quit and switched over to the Shiv Sena ahead of the local bodies poll in the state.
The dinner at Taj Lands End Hotel, which will include party office bearers, also assumes significance amid speculation over a possible patch-up between Uddhav and his brother, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. Sources said Uddhav wants to take into confidence his public representatives and office bearers before making any proposal to the MNS for an alliance.
A meeting of all district heads is also supposed to take place at Sena Bhavan during the day.
While addressing the 59th foundation day of the Shiv Sena on Thursday, Uddhav attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the Shiv Sena, saying: "What people want will happen. We will see how it is to be done. The BJP and Shinde Sena do not want Marathi parties to unite. If you try to finish the Thackeray brand, we will finish off the BJP."
At a recent meeting at Matoshree, Uddhav had sought the opinion of all former corporators on a possible alliance with the MNS. He said he will not go ahead with the alliance without the former corporators' nod.
Sources said all the former corporators supported the idea and said it was the right time to join hands with the MNS.
More than 50% of the former corporators of undivided Shiv Sena, who won in the 2017 BMC polls, have already shifted loyalties to the Eknath Shinde camp. So, the meeting with the former corporators is seen as an attempt to avoid further defections.

'Declined Trump's invite to US to coming to land of Lord Jagannath,' says PM Modi; flags off Boudh rail link ahead of Rath Yatra

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said he declined a dinner invitation from US President Donald Trump during his visit to Canada for the G7 summit, in order to attend a public programme in Odisha and to visit the 'land of Mahaprabhu. ' 'Just two days ago, I was in Canada for the G7 summit and the US President Trump called me,' PM Modi said. 'He said, since you have come to Canada, go via Washington, we will have dinner together and talk. He extended the invitation with great insistence. I told the US President, thank you for the invitation. It is very important for me to go to the land of Mahaprabhu and hence I politely declined his invitation. Your love and devotion to Mahaprabhu brought me to this land. ' — ANI (@ANI) The Prime Minister's remarks came during a public address in Bhubaneswar to mark the first anniversary of the BJP government in Odisha. Hailing the occasion, PM Modi said, 'This anniversary is not just of the government; it marks the establishment of good governance. This one year has been dedicated to public service and public trust.' He congratulated chief minister Mohan Majhi and his team. During the address, PM Modi also praised the decision by the Odisha government to open all four doors of the Sri Jagannath Temple and give access to the Ratna Bhandar, the temple treasury. 'This is not a matter of political victory or defeat. It has been done to respect the faith of crores of devotees,' he said, adding that the issues around the temple had been resolved with divine blessings. The Prime Minister drew comparisons with other BJP-ruled states, such as Assam and Tripura, which he said were once troubled by violence and underdevelopment but are now progressing steadily. 'Assam and Tripura show how the people's mandate for change can bring peace and growth,' he said. PM Modi also flagged off new train services to Boudh district, giving the area its first-ever railway connectivity. The move, he said, was part of the Centre's broader push to boost infrastructure in previously neglected regions. His visit comes just ahead of the annual Rath Yatra in Puri, a key religious event for devotees of Lord Jagannath. PM Modi linked the recent policy decisions in the state with the upcoming yatra and underlined the BJP's continued commitment to both governance and faith-based traditions.

Centre grants one-year extension to Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi

CHANDIGARH: The Union Government has given Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, a 1990 batch IAS officer, a one-year extension. Sources said that this decision was conveyed by the Department of Personnel and Training to the Haryana government on Thursday. Rastogi, who retires on June 30, was granted an extension sought by the BJP-led Haryana Government. The extension will be effective from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. It is learnt that with his extension, the hopes of four officers from the 1990 batch, Sudhir Rajpal, Sumita Misra, Anand Mohan Sharan and Raja Shekhar Vundru, and five officers from the 1991 batch, Vineet Garg, Anil Malik, G Anupama, A K Singh and Abhilaksh Likhi, who were in contention for the coveted post, have been dashed. Sources said that as per the gradation list of Haryana IAS officers, Sudhir Rajpal of the 1990 batch is the senior-most as per inter-se seniority, followed by Sumita Misra, Anurag Rastogi, Anand Mohan Sharan and Raja Sekhar Vundru. However, Rastogi got the benefit of a 'seniority-related dispute' among the 1990 batch officers. Earlier, certain 1990 batch officers had moved an application against their fellow batchmates Rajpal and Misra, as they had originally been allocated non-Haryana cadres and later joined the Haryana cadre. However, Rajpal and Misra are still at number one and two in the gradation list, as there has been no decision yet on the petition against them. Rastogi currently holds the third position in the gradation list of Haryana IAS officers.
