Sabah to host Chocolate Fantasy Runway Challenge tomorrow

Kota Kinabalu: The Chocolate Fantasy Runway Challenge (CFRC) 2025 is set to return this Saturday (May 24) with a stunning display of style, sustainability and storytelling at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), starting from 1pm. Held in conjunction with the Malaysian International Cocoa Festival (MICF) 2025, this year marks the first time the prestigious event will take place in Sabah, further elevating the State's profile on the international fashion and cocoa scene. The design competition invites fashion talents from across Malaysia and beyond to reimagine couture through a chocolate-themed lens, merging artistry, fantasy, and sustainable innovation. Back for its second edition, the CFRC has grown into more than a fashion competition – it has become a creative movement celebrating culture, ethical design, and modern storytelling. This year's theme, 'ChocoNeo Culture,' encourages designers to explore futuristic and culturally rich interpretations of chocolate-inspired fashion, using experimental materials and eco-conscious methods. The term 'ChocoNeo Culture' fuses chocolate, innovation, and cultural identity, encouraging participants to break convention while celebrating heritage through design.
Advertisement 'This event is more than a show, it is a celebration of creativity, vision, and responsible design,' said organiser Malaysia Association of Ethical Fashion Designers (MAEFD) President Zayana Yazed. She added that the challenge provides a national stage for emerging talents to showcase their creativity while championing ethical and sustainable fashion practices. Winners will receive the CFRC 2025 Best Design Award. Participants will also have the chance to connect with key figures in the industry, including fashion professionals, media representatives, and potential collaborators or clients. The event is expected to draw fashion enthusiasts, creatives, and cocoa lovers alike, offering a unique experience where haute couture meets ethical innovation. His family confirmed the news on Sunday, stating he leaves behind a remarkable legacy in both acting and writing. 'He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come,' media quoted the family saying. Stamp captivated audiences in arthouse films and Hollywood blockbusters, appearing in over 60 movies throughout his career. Born in London on 22 July 1938, he first gained recognition for his role as a doomed sailor in Peter Ustinov's 'Billy Budd', earning an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe. He won Best Actor at Cannes in 1965 for his chilling performance as a psychopath in William Wyler's 'The Collector'. Stamp became a defining figure of the 1960s, working with legendary directors like Federico Fellini and Pier Paolo Pasolini. Fellini cast him as the decadent actor Toby Dammit, while Pasolini saw him as a 'boy of divine nature' in the cult classic 'Theorem'. After a brief career lull, he revived his fame as General Zod in 'Superman II' and later as Bernadette in 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'. 'I was so closely identified with the 1960s that when that era ended, I was finished with it,' he once told French daily Liberation. Fest promotes unique Tempasuk heritage

KOTA BELUD: The colourful Citrawarna Night was among the highlights of Festival Tempasuk 2025, celebrating the ethnic arts and culture of the Tempasuk community. Held over five days beginning Aug 13, the festival features traditional dances, costumes, food, folk games and cultural performances aimed at promoting the unique heritage of the Tempasuk and Kota Belud areas. Festival Chairperson Datin Vinnie Nursyahirah Abdullah said the event served as a platform to showcase the diversity and richness of local traditions. 'This festival brings together various elements of Tempasuk's arts and culture. Historically, Tempasuk was the original name of Kota Belud, and we are proud to highlight the heritage of communities across this region,' she said after the event at the Tempasuk People's Service Centre Square. Among the evening's highlights were performances by popular local artists, Datuk Francis Landong and Leles Koronob, as well as a cultural showcase by the Pentarama troupe from the Sabah Information Department. The event was officiated by Pantai Dalit Assemblyman and Executive Chairman of Innoprise Corporation Sdn Bhd, Datuk Jasnih Daya. The main attraction was the Citra Budaya Etnik Tempasuk Parade, featuring nine teams, seven representing sub-districts within the Tempasuk constituency, and two invited teams from the organising committee, including the Tobilung ethnic group of Kota Belud. Vinnie said each team competed for five awards - Largest Participation, Best Performance, Best Concept, Most Festive Team and Best Teamwork. 'This is the second time the parade has been held, with the first edition in 2022 under a slightly different name,' she added. She expressed hope that the festival would continue to serve as a platform for the Tempasuk community to preserve and promote their customs and cultural identity, while positioning the constituency as a cultural tourism hub. 'We expect around 5,000 visitors throughout the festival. Google Maps Trekker spotted walking through Bukit Bintang

In addition to maps, Google also offers features such as Street View on both Google Maps and Google Earth, allowing users to see streets and buildings through panoramic images. Most people are aware that these images are usually captured by specially equipped Google Street View cars fitted with 360-degree cameras. However, not many realise that in areas inaccessible to vehicles, the images are collected on foot by individuals carrying portable camera systems. Recently, a video went viral showing a man walking around Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur carrying a large backpack camera system for Google Maps. The video, uploaded on TikTok by @wbbb_ttt, showed the man crossing pedestrian walkways and using an overhead bridge, attracting the attention of passers-by. The TikTok user remarked that the backpack looked heavy but admitted being excited at the thought of possibly appearing on Street View. Google refers to the portable system as the Trekker, a backpack-mounted 360-degree camera designed to capture narrow streets, pedestrian areas, and other locations only accessible on foot. Social media users responded with a mix of amusement and curiosity, with some joking that it looked like a fun job, while others asked how they could apply to be a Trekker.
