MACC IO reports money given to Lim Guan Eng in Penang tunnel case
Senior Superintendent Ng Heng Jun stated that Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli, former director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, disclosed payments made to both G. Gnanaraja and Lim during a fraud investigation in 2019.
Ng clarified that while Zarul provided general details about the funds given to Lim, he was not directly involved in that specific investigation.
'I informed MACC superiors, and they assured a special probe would follow,' he said during re-examination by Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh.
The case involves a RM6.3 billion Penang infrastructure project.
The witness confirmed he did not prevent Zarul from testifying about the payments to Lim.
'I wanted to avoid mixing evidence between the two separate cases,' Ng explained.
Lim faces multiple charges, including allegedly accepting RM3.3 million in bribes linked to the project between 2011 and 2017.
Additional charges accuse Lim of soliciting a 10% profit share from Zarul's company and improperly disposing of state land worth RM208.8 million.
The trial before Judge Azura Alwi resumes on July 22. – Bernama

MACC and AKPS to strengthen border operations with new cooperation
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has pledged to strengthen cooperation with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) in operations and training. This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. Azam highlighted AKPS as a crucial agency in national security and assured full MACC support for shared objectives. 'Several AKPS-related issues have been under MACC scrutiny, but resolving them has been difficult,' Azam said in a statement. He expressed confidence that the new partnership would help address these challenges more effectively. Azam also proposed incentives for AKPS border officers to boost morale and integrity. 'The MACC fully supports this proposal as incentives can motivate frontline personnel and reduce complacency,' he added. Mohd Shuhaily described the meeting as a key platform for discussing operational strategies and anti-corruption efforts. 'This collaboration will enhance border control systems and foster higher integrity among officers,' he said. Senior officials from both agencies attended the meeting, including MACC's Datuk Zainul Darus and Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin. MACC denies issuing notice linked to child pornography probe
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said it has never issued any notice related to an investigation into the distribution of child pornography. In a statement, the MACC described the notice, which has gone viral on social media, as fake and confirmed it had never been released by the commission. According to the statement, the notice had been circulated via messaging apps and personal email accounts, using the MACC's official identity without authorisation. "The notice in question unlawfully used the names of the MACC Chief Commissioner and Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), as well as the commission's official logo and headquarters address in Putrajaya, for fraudulent purposes. "As such, we would like to remind the public not to be easily deceived by suspicious emails, messages, or documents circulated through unofficial channels," the statement said. The MACC also advised the public to always verify the authenticity of any information through the commission's official platforms. "The public is urged to verify via MACC's official channels, such as its website at ( ( the official Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Facebook page, or by calling the toll-free line at 1-800-88-6000. "The MACC calls on all parties to cease the spread of this fake document and to report any such messages to the authorities," it added.
