Woman among five held with stolen gold in Suryapet jewellery heist; one accused absconding
The theft took place on the night of July 21 when thieves broke into the shop's strong room through a hole in the adjacent bathroom wall. The shop owner reported a loss of 2.5 kg of gold and cash. Police formed five special teams for investigation.
During routine checks at the Hi-Tech Bus station on Sunday morning, police found Mekala Yashoda from Naidupet, Khammam, carrying 14 tolas of stolen gold. Upon interrogation, she confessed to being part of the theft along with Prakash Anil Kumar from Nepal and four unidentified accomplices. Anil Kumar had given her the gold in Khammam, and she was en route to Hyderabad through Suryapet to sell it.
Yashoda also revealed that Anil Kumar and another Nepali national, Amar Bhatt Gurkha, had plotted several thefts in Khammam, targeting banks and jewellery shops. The group moved to Suryapet in May under the guise of opening a fast-food stall and worked as gurkhas. They rented a house behind the gold shop on MG Road to plan the theft discreetly.
SP Narasimha said Anil Kumar, along with Kadak Singh and three unidentified persons from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh states, committed the theft. Yashoda stated the stolen gold was to be sold in Nepal, with some being given to her and Amar Bhatt for expenses. The rest fled, promising her a share post-sale. It was found they received insider updates on police activity after the crime.
Police have identified five suspects from Nepal, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Special teams are working to trace and arrest the absconding accused and recover the remaining stolen property. Anil Kumar is involved in three theft cases earlier in Khammam, and further investigation of others is underway.
The police reiterated their commitment to bringing all culprits to justice.

PM Modi was speaking at an event at Kartavya Path after inaugurating Kartavya Bhavan (Common Central Secretariat Building) 3, the first of the 10 state-of-the-art Central government office complexes planned as part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan. These blocks will house offices of all ministries and associated departments, presently functioning from Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, North and South Blocks and other buildings located at different locations.

Over ₹ 79,000 seized in Arcot municipality office after worker's complaint
Officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) seized ₹ 79,282 unaccounted cash from the office of Arcot municipality in Ranipet on Wednesday. DVAC sources said that the municipality has engaged 102 temporary sanitary workers on contract basis mainly for door-to-door garbage collection from households in the town. As per norms, each worker should be paid Rs 489 for their work on a daily basis. However, it has been alleged by sanitary workers that they were paid only Rs 370 for each worker daily by the civic body. Sanitary workers also complained of non-payment of wages for the past three months by the civic body. Thw workers have complained to DVAC that more money has been deducted from civic officials for Provident Fund and ESI from their wages as against stipulated percentage of wages to it. Based on complaints by affected workers to the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, a six-member team led by V. Ganesh, Deputy SP, DVAC (Ranipet) conducted the searches between 8. 30 p.m on Tuesday to 4.30 a.m on Wednesday morning. DVAC officials also questioned Municipal Commissioner S. Venketalakshman and other senior municipal officials present during the searches in the office. After hours of search, DVAC officials recovered the unaccounted cash from washrooms and storerooms in the municipal building. As most of the financial transactions are done online, DVAC also seized mobile phones of senior municipal officials for verification of cash transactions. A detailed investigation is underway.

SC refuses to grant relief to IAS officer in graft case
Cuttack: The Supreme Court refused to grant relief to senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi in a corruption case, dismissing his plea challenging an order by Orissa high court that had denied him anticipatory bail. A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih in its order on Aug 4 said it was 'not inclined to interfere' with the high court's July 28 ruling. However, the court allowed Sethi the liberty to surrender and apply for regular bail, saying it would be considered 'on its own merits'. The case stems from the arrest of a group general manager of a public sector unit on Dec 8, 2024, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a Bhubaneswar-based real estate firm. During interrogation of the manager, Sethi's name reportedly emerged, following which CBI raided the senior bureaucrat's residence on Feb 18 this year. Sethi had earlier approached the high court for anticipatory bail after his petition seeking to quash the CBI probe was dismissed on June 20. The high court termed his plea 'premature' as the investigation was still at an early stage.
