Qualcomm currently has an ESP of +0.60% with a Zacks Rank #3. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.
Factors Shaping the Upcoming Results
During the quarter, Qualcomm introduced the cutting-edge Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Mobile Platform. With cutting-edge CPU and GPU capabilities, the solution offers significantly improved AI performance, enhanced gaming, content generation and connectivity features. The newly launched solution has already gained solid market traction. Leading OEMs, such as HONOR and vivo, have already selected the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Mobile Platform for their upcoming devices. Realme is also expected to adopt the new platform.
In the Quarter under review, Qualcomm was selected by e& a global technology group to strengthen digital infrastructure across the UAE. Under its Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is heavily investing in advanced AI and 5G technologies to drive nationwide digital transformation. Qualcomm has positioned itself as a key player in that initiative. QCOM has joined forces with HUMAIN to develop AI data centers to deliver cloud-to-edge hybrid AI services. It has formed a partnership with Aramco Digital to support the development of advanced edge AI industrial IoT devices and end-to-end solutions.
In the third quarter, the company acquired Autotalks to enhance its vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology offerings for safer, smarter transportation systems. Qualcomm has also acquired MovianAI, the former generative AI division of VinAI, a prominent Vietnam-based AI company. The acquisition will give Qualcomm access to VinAI's comprehensive expertise in generative AI, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing.
It has also inked a definitive agreement to acquire Alphawave Semi for an enterprise value of approximately $2.4 billion. With advanced technology solutions that are complementary to power-efficient CPU and NPU cores, Alphawave Semi delivers connectivity products and chiplets that drive faster, more reliable data transfer with higher performance and lower power consumption for 5G wireless, AI and data center applications. These acquisitions will significantly bolster Qualcomm's AI capabilities.
Price Performance
Over the past year, Qualcomm has lost 10.3% against the industry's growth of 41%, lagging peers like Broadcom Inc. but outperforming Intel Corp.. During this period, Broadcom has gained 93.8%, while Intel has declined 32.2%.
Key Valuation Metric
From a valuation standpoint, Qualcomm appears to be relatively cheaper compared to the industry and below its mean. Going by the price/earnings ratio, the company shares currently trade at 13.44 forward earnings, lower than 34.13 for the industry and the stock's mean of 16.97.
Investment Considerations
Qualcomm is aiming to be the driving force of the next wave of AI innovation. Its recent strategic acquisitions and innovation initiative are perfectly aligned with that strategy. The buyouts will provide Qualcomm's access to next-generation technology, bolster its R&D initiatives, and facilitate the development of state-of-the-art AI-driven solutions for a wide range of industries, including smartphones, PCs, software-defined vehicles and more.
The company is witnessing healthy traction in the premium handset market. However, intensifying competition from low-cost chip manufacturers like MediaTek and Rockchip is impacting margins in the mid-range smartphone market. The company has been taking actions to counter these issues. It is introducing several cutting-edge AI features in its chips for mid-range smartphones, and it has been actively collaborating with major smartphone manufacturers to develop a solution tailored to their requirements.
Qualcomm is also expanding its portfolio offerings to enhance resiliency in its business model. The company is expected to benefit from strong demand for its Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform in the automotive market. These factors will likely boost commercial prospects.
However, despite some setbacks, Intel has remained a major player in chipset development. The company's growing prowess in the AI PC vertical can pose a challenge to Qualcomm's AI PC expansion. The company is also facing competition from Broadcom, which is a prominent supplier of RF Components to leading smartphone makers.
End Note
With a Zacks Rank #3, QCOM appears to be treading in the middle of the road, and new investors could be better off if they trade with caution. Intensifying competition in the smartphone vertical is putting pressure on profitability. Declining earnings estimates highlight bearish sentiment.
However, the results of a single quarter are not so vital for long-term stakeholders. Investors who already own the stock may consider holding on to it. Qualcomm is ramping up its AI initiatives, diversifying its portfolio to capitalize on the emerging trends across multiple end markets. Growing traction in high-end smartphones, advanced driver assistance, V2X communication, AI PC and IoT space is positive. Strategic buyouts are enhancing portfolio strength. Such development augurs well for long-term sustainable growth.

Cogeco launches wireless network free for a year for internet customers
Cogeco announced on Wednesday it has formally launched mobile service in parts of Ontario and Quebec, with introductory plans for its internet and TV customers as little as $0 per month for the first year. For now, the service is only available to people living in 13 communities in Quebec and Ontario who are Cogeco cable internet subscribers or sign up for that service: Quebec: Alma, Magog, Rimouski, St-Georges, St-Hyacinthe, St-Sauveur, Sept-Îles and Trois-Rivières Ontario: Brockville, Chatham, Cobourg, Cornwall and Welland The bring-your-own-phone plans include nationwide service on the Telus network, but require subscribers to spend the majority of their usage on Cogeco's home network, covering Quebec and eastern, central, southern and southwestern Ontario. The free plans, which also waive $60 connection fees, include unlimited nationwide calling and texts, call display and voice mail. There's a talk and text plan that will cost $39/month after 12 months, and a 10 GB data plan costing $49/month after 12 months. There's also a 25 GB data plan at $10/month for the first year and $59/month after that. Unused data can be rolled over to the next month, up to 100 per cent the amount in the monthly plan. To get the plans for free, besides living in the aforementioned communities and being Cogeco internet customers, subscribers must sign up for pre-authorized payments. 'For almost 70 years, Cogeco has been deeply rooted in regional markets. The launch of Cogeco Mobile is not just a new chapter, it's a bold declaration of our unwavering commitment to be a competitive force in Canada,' Cogeco president and CEO Frédéric Perron said in a statement from the company. Cogeco has been teasing a wireless service launch for years, but held off until the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission set wholesale rates and rules for new wireless companies to use networks belonging to the main network operators Bell, Rogers, Telus and SaskTel. Telus announced last week that it was serving as the national provider for Cogeco's wireless network. Defensive move: analysts In a note, National Bank analyst Adam Shine said Cogeco has been exploring wireless on both sides of the border with the spring launch of Breezeline Mobile in the U.S. as a defensive move to bundle with internet and reduce churn in its cable business. Breezeline, the eighth-largest cable operator in the United States, provides internet, video and telephony services in 13 states. The Massachusetts-based subsidiary launched mobile phone service on May 2024 as a pay-as-you-go service with no term contracts or cancellation fees. The telco is leveraging a seven-year mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) regime that launched last year, he said. The CRTC policy gives regional wireless carriers access to Bell, Rogers, Telus and SaskTel networks for a period of seven years. 'We'll now wait to see how existing wireless operators in Canada react to (Cogeco's) arrival on the scene with its introductory offers just as back-to-school gets going and incumbents talk about more discipline,' Shine wrote. When it first announced the service launch two weeks ago, Perron said Cogeco would be 'aggressive' on pricing, but discounts would not remain long-term. 'It's not a strategy to go national or anything like that,' he said. 'We're a rational player.'

‘Riding the hype': Fans paying a premium to see first-place Toronto Blue Jays
TORONTO – Heather Gardiner couldn't give her seats away. The Blue Jays owned a record under .500 back in the spring, and looked poised for another middling campaign with little playoff hope. Things then drastically turned around on the field. Toronto now sits first in the American League East. And tickets are a hot commodity — often at a hefty price. Getting into Rogers Centre to see Canada's only Major League Baseball team has quickly morphed into a costly endeavour this summer that has surprised some fans. A recent sold-out series against the New York Yankees saw the cheapest seats on resale sites going for more than $200 apiece, while a ticket in the 500 level for Friday's series-opener with the Kansas City Royals was in the neighbourhood of $80 as of Wednesday afternoon — more than double face value. Gardiner and her family have two season tickets near the visitors dugout. The tech consultant, who's had seats since Toronto's 2015 playoff run, sold most of her extras at cost to friends last season. After the Jays' underwhelming start to 2025, interest dropped to near zero. 'We were posting on social media three days before a game saying, 'We can't make it and if you want the tickets let me know and they're yours,'' Gardiner said. 'They were free and people weren't taking them.' Toronto's surge up the standings signalled a drastic shift across the ticket market. Fans can make purchases directly from the team through Ticketmaster, while the website also has verified resale options — usually at an inflated price — similar to other big-hitters like SeatGeek and StubHub when supply is scarce. Jagger Long, who runs Toronto-based resale website Karma Tickets, said a number of factors, including summer holidays, tourism and a winning team are contributing to the spikes. 'We're riding the hype of the Jays,' he said. 'People are spending the money. If they weren't, the prices would come down.' A multi-million dollar renovation of Rogers Centre that improved sightlines, added more bars, communal areas and other amenities has also raised the stakes, Long said. 'They've done a great job of turning it into more of a social event,' he said. That mainly happens in the common areas where general admission tickets — standing room, without a seat — can be purchased for a face value of roughly $20. But those tickets — along with blocks of seats in the 500s — are often snapped up by scalpers or fellow fans looking to make a quick buck, Long said. General admission seats for Toronto's opener against Kansas City were priced around $50 and up for resale Wednesday. 'People are watching the market,' said Long, who added website algorithms can boost prices automatically when tickets are at a premium. 'Even average fans, professional ticket sellers, part-time ticket sellers, they watch. They treat it like a part-time job or a full-time job.' The Jays said in a statement the club encourages fans to plan ahead and purchase tickets well in advance of games. The team noted there are plenty of seats available for series later in August and September. Long agreed getting tickets early is the best practice, but added scanning resale options for popular games can still garner good results. 'Jot down the price and then go back in a few days,' he said. 'If the prices haven't really moved, that's an indicator … you eventually might find a hidden gem.' The face value of Gardiner's tickets sit at just over $100 each per game. She hasn't looked to make a profit in the past, but sold for as much as $350 apiece for the Yankees series, and got $450 this weekend. Thursdays Keep up to date on sports with Mike McIntyre's weekly newsletter. Prices for season-ticket holders jumped significantly following the Rogers Centre renovations. Gardiner said she knows a number of fellow fans — including some with tickets since Day 1 back in 1977 at Exhibition Stadium — who have gone that route to maintain their small pieces of baseball real estate. The financial calculus of attending Jays games aside, Gardiner said the energy at the ballpark is comparable to when she first bought in a decade ago. 'It's like being there in 2015,' she said. 'There was something different, and that's what it's feeling like in that building. 'Everyone keeps saying it's like a playoff game. It is electric.'
