Naomi Osaka Accused Of Being 'Sore Loser' After Final Loss
Four-time major champion Naomi Osaka didn't just lose the National Bank Open final on Thursday night, she received backlash for questionable comments she made after the match.
Despite winning the opening set, Osaka suffered a brutal collapse against Mboko. She ultimately lost 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. While it was a disappointing result for Osaka, it was pure jubilation for Mboko, who captured her first WTA Tour title. Obviously, the 18-year-old Canadian had the home crowd on her side in Montreal.
Following the match, Osaka was supposed to deliver a speech in front of the fans in Montreal. Unfortunately, it didn't last very long.
"I don't really wanna take up too much time. I'll just say thank you to everyone," Osaka said. "Thank you to my team, the ball kids, organizers and volunteers. I hope you guys had a good night."
After Osaka delivered this brief speech in Montreal, tennis fans ripped her for showing zero class towards Mboko.
"Could Naomi Osaka be more of a sore loser right now? You don't need to give a massive speech but at least congratulate your opponent," one fan commented.
"You gotta feel for her but this is not how things are done, pretty much tennis protocol congratulating your opponent," a second fan said.
"That was a snarky comment. I can't imagine having to play Mboko and the crowd- but show some class. That was a terrible comment," a third fan added.
"Of all people, Naomi Osaka should know how to be gracious to a younger opponent during the post-match ceremony. To not even congratulate Victoria in the speech was a bad look," another fan wrote.
Mboko wasn't offended by Osaka's comments. In fact, she showed her a ton of appreciation.
"I wanna thank Naomi for an incredible match. I've always looked up to her when I was really little. It's great to play with such an amazing player like you," Mboko said.
There'll be plenty of fans cheering on Mboko when the US Open begins later this month.
As for Osaka, she'll be left wondering what went wrong in the National Bank Open final.

Titans' Tyjae Spears has high ankle sprain
Titans running back Tyjae Spears suffered an apparent high ankle sprain during Saturday night's postseason game. Spears was carted off the field and a high ankle sprain was the initial diagnosis, according to Turron Davenport of ESPN. Titans coach Brian Callahan said after the game that it's too soon to say how much time Spears will miss. "Further evaluation. We'll see. Looks like it's probably an ankle, we'll see what the severity is as we evaluate it a little further," Callahan said. Spears is the Titans' backup running back behind Tony Pollard. If Spears isn't ready for the start of the regular season, that would open up an opportunity to rookie sixth-round draft pick Kalel Mullings, who had seven carries for 33 yards on Saturday.

One pass, one TD: Mahomes, Chiefs get off to good start in 20-17 preseason loss to Cardinals
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Quarterback Patrick Mahomes spent some time before Saturday's preseason game running up and down the Kansas City Chiefs sideline, yelling, jumping and psyching himself up for his first game action since last season's Super Bowl. He was ready — for all 48 seconds of it. Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl champ entering his ninth season, took advantage of a short field after the Arizona Cardinals fumbled the opening kickoff, hitting Jason Brownlee for a 1-yard touchdown and an early 7-0 lead less than one minute into the game.
