Harrison Butker's commencement address at Benedictine College, quoting Taylor Swift, continues to spark outrage (Getty Images)
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker delivered a polarizing commencement address at Benedictine College, yet the backlash hasn't faded. The speech, which mixed conservative Catholic values with pointed criticism of modern social issues, continues to dominate conversations — particularly because Butker invoked the name of
Taylor Swift
, the girlfriend of his teammate
Travis Kelce
.
Harrison Butker's controversial speech quoting Taylor Swift still sparks outrage
During the 20-minute address, Harrison Butker told graduating students they were entering a world poisoned by 'degenerate cultural values.' He went on to condemn abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, and Pride Month, calling it a celebration of 'deadly sins.'
His remarks about women sparked particular fury: 'I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,' he said. 'Some of you may go on to lead successful careers...
but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.'
Butker also quoted Swift's lyrics from her song 'Bejeweled,' stating: 'Familiarity breeds contempt,' while referencing her as 'his teammate's girlfriend.' Many interpreted this as an attempt to cloak his traditionalist message in pop culture credibility. But the quote's use, especially without Swift's input, didn't go unnoticed.

It added fuel to the fire — especially among Swift fans and critics of the speech alike.
Public response was swift and fierce — and it hasn't gone quiet
Social media users and public figures responded almost instantly. One viral tweet summed up the mood: 'Harrison Butker... did a bang-up job of becoming one of the most hated men in North America in one 20-minute speech full of bigotry and misogyny.'
A Change.org petition demanding Butker's removal from the Chiefs roster quickly gained traction, collecting over 19,000 signatures.
'We demand accountability from our sports figures who should be role models promoting respect for all people regardless of their race, gender identity or sexual orientation,' the petition stated.

While the Chiefs have not publicly commented on the matter, Butker's comments remain a flashpoint in ongoing debates about politics, religion, and gender roles in sports. As his words continue to circulate online, it's clear this wasn't just a one-day controversy — it's a cultural lightning rod still striking.

MLC: Maxwell smashes 8th T20 ton, joins elite company of Warner, Rohit, Buttler among others

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell levelled with names like compatriots David Warner , Aaron Finch, the Indian legend Rohit Sharma and England's Jos Buttler, becoming the player with the joint-fourth-highest centuries in T20 cricket. Maxwell, who smashed his eighth century in the shortest format, achieved this feat during the Major League Cricket (MLC) match for his side, Washington Freedom (WSF,) against Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) at Oakland. During this match, Maxwell, dubbed as the 'Big Show' for his supreme hitting abilities, truly lived up to his name, blasting an unbeaten 106* in 49 balls, with just two boundaries and 13 sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 216.33. He is captaining the side this season in the absence of Steve Smith, who led them to the title last year. 5 uncomplicated styling tips to follow this wedding season

(Image Credits: Pinterest) As the second run of wedding season is upon us, one can't help but dwell on the shimmery and shiny outfit selection with matching jewellery, makeup, and more. From holding back the bling during the haldi and mehendi ceremonies to going all out during sangeet and wedding night, let's make sure you follow these 5 styling tips to stay far from any mishap that will strip off the 'fashionista' tag from you. Styling tip 1: Opt for fabrics that suit the season Always start with choosing the right fabric, considering the season of the wedding. If it's a summer wedding, then opt for lightweight fabrics such as georgette, chiffon, and organza that will allow you to stay cool and breezy. But if it's a winter wedding, then choose fabrics like velvet or silk that will give you a cosy and bold edge, keeping you warm throughout the day. (Image Credits: Pinterest) Styling tip 2: Avoid overly tight fits Wedding season calls for comfort over anything, as it is filled with chaos and energy. Amidst the hassle, stop opting for overly tight fits and try getting tailored fits that will allow you movement and will help you walk, dance, sing, and help with multiple chores. You can also opt for Pakistani lawn suits, which are known for their oversized fit and look absolutely ravishing. Five tips to keep your style quotient high this monsoon season Styling tip 3: Balance the design and patterns Create a complementary overall structure and never go overboard with a heavy monochrome set. It makes the whole palette look far from being classy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Opt for a heavily embroidered dupatta with a plain kurta that will frame your face, making you look balanced. Opt for lightweight pieces that go well with your heavy embroidered lehenga without overwhelming the whole piece. Add a couple of delicate necklaces or subtle dangling earrings that will provide you with the perfect balance and touch of regal sophistication. Styling tip 5: Balance makeup and hairdo Your makeup and hairdo can be the make-or-break point of your ensemble and are no less important. While you wish to look more glamorous, too much can clash with your fit; therefore, always try to keep a subtle makeup note with a sleek yet stylish hairdo. 'He was a divorcee, I am a widower': Rahul Dev's chilling words on brother Mukul Dev's cause of death as both brothers battled loneliness

The world saw him as charming, talented, and always surrounded by people, but behind that vibrant exterior, Mukul Dev battled a haunting solitude. The actor's sudden death at 54 shocked the film industry last month, but it's his elder brother Rahul Dev's deeply personal reflections that have now brought a new perspective to the grief. In a recent interview, Rahul Dev opened up about the emotional toll of Mukul's life journey, painting a picture of a man who seemed to have it all, yet carried invisible burdens. As Rahul puts it, the shared thread of loneliness—Rahul being a widower and Mukul a divorcee—defined much of their adult lives. Though Mukul shared a close bond with his daughter, he remained alone after his early separation and never remarried. Known for his effortless charm and social nature, Mukul was ironically someone who ended up isolated. Rahul believes Mukul's life was full of emotional ironies and wishes he had been more open to healing and companionship. About Mukul Dev's ex-wife Shilpa Dev was Mukul Dev's wife in the early 2000s, and the couple had a daughter, Sia, born in 2002. Despite their bond through parenthood, their marriage faced challenges and they reportedly separated in 2005. The reasons for the split were never publicly discussed, but as per reports in the BollywoodShaadis, it was due to minor differences, with no one solely at fault. After the separation, Shilpa moved out with Sia. Despite the distance, Mukul remained deeply connected to his daughter and often shared milestones from her life on social media, reflecting their continued bond. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo About Rahul Dev's ex-wife Rahul, too, has had his share of heartbreak, having lost his wife Rina to cancer in 2009.
