What happened at the Home Run Derby?
What's the All-Star Game without the annual Home Run Derby?

The hometown hero knocked 15 pitches out of the park after struggling through the first few. Sadly, it was just short of moving him past the first round. But Atlanta still got to their feet and gave Olson a standing ovation.
Oneil Cruz from the Pittsburgh Pirates tied the record for the longest homer hit during the Derby that didn't happen at Coors Field at 513 feet.
But it was Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh who won the Home Run Derby, making him the first catcher in history to do so. Throughout the three rounds, Raleigh hit a total of 54 home runs.

MLB Insider Reports Rangers Will Be Active At MLB Trade Deadline

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Texas Rangers have stormed back into the playoff race after a tough start to the season that looked to be lost, and are now entering trade season with a chance to make a push. One MLB insider believes Texas will get bold before Thursday's MLB trade deadline. "They're going to be looking for a right-handed hitter, and perhaps more importantly, high-leverage relievers," Ken Rosenthal said on "Fair Territory". ARLINGTON, TX - JULY 26: Marcus Semien #2 of the Texas Rangers celebrates with teammates following the team's tenth inning win against the Atlanta Braves at Globe Life Field on July 26, 2025 in Arlington,... ARLINGTON, TX - JULY 26: Marcus Semien #2 of the Texas Rangers celebrates with teammates following the team's tenth inning win against the Atlanta Braves at Globe Life Field on July 26, 2025 in Arlington, Texas. More Photo byThe Rangers enter Tuesday a half-game back of the Boston Red Sox for the final wild-card spot in the American League and just 4 games back of the Houston Astros for the AL West. While the Astros have 18 players on the injured list, the Rangers are getting ready to make a run at the division title. Rosenthal notes that the Rangers are going to be in the market for high-leverage relievers. While the Rangers have the third-best bullpen ERA this season, they have blown the fifth-most saves as a group. Just about every contender is in the market for bullpen help, but there are some quality options on the market this year. The Rangers should be calling the St. Louis Cardinals about Ryan Helsley and the Minnesota Twins about Jhoan Duran as the deadline inches closer to give them the arm that they need to secure games and reach the postseason. Rosenthal also mentions that they should be in the market for a right-handed bat, and while the market is thin on power hitting, the Rangers could find a serviceable bat to add to their lineup for the final stretch. The Rangers should be handling the needs of their bullpen before making any changes to their offense. Eagles DC Vic Fangio honors his favorite Phillie and Hall of Famer Dick Allen

Before waxing coach talk about his players Tuesday at training camp, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio opened his press conference unveiling a prized recent gift: a Philadelphia Phillies No. 15 Dick Allen jersey. "The guys, I asked them to get me this for me," Fangio said. "And they came through. My all-time favorite Phillie right there. He was their best player when I was young, and he was obviously a great player." Allen was posthumously inducted Sunday into the Baseball Hall of Fame after a far-too-long push by his former teammates, family and friends. The former Phillies and White Sox slugger was called to the Hall in December by the Classic Baseball Era committee. The Phillies retired Allen's No. 15 in 2020, months before he died at the age of 78. Allen was the first Black superstar to play for the Phillies, who were one of the last MLB teams pre-expansion to integrate. Last season, the Phils unveiled a "Pioneers in Pinstripes" display at Citizens Bank Park honoring Allen, John Irving Kennedy — the first Black player to play for the franchise — and other trailblazers in the organization's integration history. Allen finished his MLB career with 351 home runs and a .912 OPS in 15 seasons. He won the NL Rookie of the Year in 1964 with the Phillies. After facing racism for years in Philadelphia, Allen demanded a trade in 1970 and was moved to the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent a year with the Cardinals, then was traded to the Dodgers in 1971 and then to the White Sox in 1972, where he won the AL MVP. He finished his career with a 58.8 bWAR in an era largely defined by pitching dominance. "Dick was a sensitive Black man who refused to be treated as a second-class citizen," Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt, Allen's former teammate in Philadelphia, said during the 2020 ceremony. "He played in front of home fans that were products of that racist era (with) racist teammates and different rules for Whites and Blacks. Fans threw stuff at him, and thus Dick wore a batting helmet throughout the whole game. "They yelled degrading racial slurs," Schmidt added. "They dumped trash in his front yard at his home. In general, he was tormented and it came from all directions. And Dick rebelled." Fangio doesn't shy away from his Philadelphia sports fandom. The Dunmore, Pennsylvania, native is a die-hard Phillies fan — he wore a Phillies hat during his first press conference of training camp last week. In 2017, Fangio told The Athletic that he doesn't "sleep at night until I know whether the Phillies won or lost. Even if they're on the West Coast." On Tuesday, Fangio recalled playing 18 rounds of golf with Hall of Fame pitcher Rich "Goose" Gossage a couple of years ago. Gossage was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008. During his Cooperstown speech, Gossage said Allen was the "greatest player I ever played with." While golfing with Fangio, Gossage, who played with Allen with the White Sox, echoed that sentiment to the Birds' D-coordinator. "We played 18 holes. We rode the same cart, and obviously, I talked baseball with him," Fangio said. "Said [Allen] was the best teammate he had ever had."

Braves Trade Brewing? Why Latest Bold Deadline Rumors Make No Sense

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Atlanta Braves came into the season with the expectation that they would be one of the best teams in baseball and compete for another World Series. But that's not how the season has gone. The Braves have been near the bottom of the National League for the entire campaign, and it seems like they're going to be aggressive sellers at the trade deadline with all eyes being on the expiring contracts in Atlanta. FanSided's Christopher Kline recently suggested the Braves could cut ties with Sean Murphy at the trade deadline alongside some of their expiring players. KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - JULY 28: Sean Murphy #12 and Raisel Iglesias #26 of the Atlanta Braves celebrate a 10-7 win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on July 28, 2025 in Kansas... KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - JULY 28: Sean Murphy #12 and Raisel Iglesias #26 of the Atlanta Braves celebrate a 10-7 win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on July 28, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri. More"With Drake Baldwin rocketing up the NL Rookie of the Year leaderboard, veteran backstop Sean Murphy suddenly feels like a legitimate trade chip. Both are too good to keep out of the lineup," Kline wrote. "Atlanta has taken to alternating between catcher and DH reps for both, relegating the soon-to-be-traded Marcell Ozuna to a reserve role. But, in reality, it feels a bit silly to keep two elite catchers on the roster when so many front offices around the league would kill for even one catcher with Murphy's bat." Trading Murphy could make sense if he had an expiring contract, but he doesn't. He's a very valuable piece in Atlanta, even with Drake Baldwin emerging as one of the top young catchers in the sport. The biggest reason Atlanta should keep Murphy is that the Braves will likely be able to solve the pressing issue within days. Ozuna and his expiring contract are as good as gone. Once that happens, the designated hitter spot will be freed up. That newfound flexibility should allow the duo of Baldwin and Murphy to rotate from catcher to DH, while also mixing in rest days to avoid being overworked. This would keep both players in the lineup, either behind the dish or as the DH, in a good bulk of the Braves' games. They don't need to trade a catcher if there's a way to play both.
