Pakistan stock index nosedives by over 6%
Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange plunged by over 6 per cent on Thursday with trading halted for an hour after rumours of escalation in military action by India near Karachi. Although the rumours were unfounded, the benchmark KSE100 index tumbled 6,948.73 points, or 6.32 per cent, to 1,03,060.30, before the trading was halted.
Trading resumed with Fatima Bucha of AKD Securities confirming the situation on the floor had calmed down a bit. 'But the situation could get worse as investors are panicking due to the geopolitical situation,' she said. 'No one is sure what is going to happen and how and if Pakistan will respond to India's aggression.'
The downward trajectory of the index was largely driven by negative contributions from key stocks such as cement, energy, bank, and technology, which collectively dragged the index down. Meanwhile the government has taken measures to keep its foreign exchange reserves stabilised. It has imposed a 60-day ban on importing and exporting precious metals, jewellery, and gemstones from Thursday. The temporary ban was imposed by a Commerce Ministry Order suspending SRO760 of 2013, which governs the trade of precious metals.

$4tn To $30tn, Fast
$4tn To $30tn, Fast Amitabh Kant May 26, 2025, 21:02 IST IST That India may become the world's fourth largest economy by end-2025 is a reminder of unfinished reforms agenda. To become a real powerhouse, policy must be transformative A fortnight after Op Sindoor, economic data is buttressing the point that India and Pakistan can no longer be hyphenated. India's set to become 4th largest economy by year-end, on course to becoming the 3rd largest in three years. Maharashtra's economy is larger than Pakistan's; Tamil Nadu's is the same size. India's $4tn economy is over 10x that of Pakistan. BSE and NSE's capitalisation is 200x that of Pakistan Stock Exchange. Companies like HCL and Axis Bank command a market capitalisation equivalent to Pakistan's entire stock exchange. LIC's assets under management ($640bn) are nearly 2.5x of Pakistan's national debt. Pakistan's forex reserves: $16bn, India's: $680bn. As PM said post-Op Sindoor, the path to peace goes through power. And history shows economic power – not just military might – elevates nations on the global stage. If a $4tn economy gives India so much heft, imagine what a $30tn+ economy could do. So, now is the time to place ourselves among the most powerful economies with transformative, not incremental, reforms.

Pakistan stock market: KSE 100 index dips as New Delhi intensifies diplomatic pressure on Islamabad
Pakistan stock market's benchmark index, Karachi Stock Exchange 100 (KSE 100), dipped 0.33% in intraday trade on Monday, May 19, as India intensified diplomatic pressure on its neighbouring country. The Indian government has decided to send all-party delegations to 33 global capitals to brief global leaders on India's resolve to deal with terrorism firmly against the backdrop of Operation Sindoor. The KSE 100 index opened in the green at 120,166.7, but soon erased losses to trade in the red. It hit the day's low of 119,250.68, as against its previous close of 119,649.14. This is the second straight day of fall for the Pakistan stock market's flagship index. Meanwhile, the index has dipped in three of the last four trading sessions. However, so far in May, the KSE 100 index has risen over 7%, boosted by a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following four days of heavy clashes. As part of its diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, which included targeted strikes on terrorists' camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, 59 members of Parliament, former ministers and politicians, will be part of the seven delegations that will travel to 32 countries and the EU headquarters in Brussels. The delegation, cutting across party lines, is a diplomatic outreach mission which aims to convey India's firm resolve to combat terrorism in the context of Operation Sindoor.

Narayana Murthy's Infosys alone beats Pakistan's whole stock exchange! If compared with Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Pak's largest company is just…
We saw recently how India is ahead of Pakistan in defense, military, and air force. But India also leads in different business than Pakistan and there is no match of the whole Pakistan if compared to even a single Indian company. There are many such companies which alone can take over Pakistan's whole stock exchange. A single Indian IT giant, Infosys, surpasses the combined market value of the top 476 companies listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). Pakistan's GDP of $350 billion is very less than India's $4 trillion economy. The total market capitalisation of Pakistan's 476 largest listed companies is Rs 5.66 lakh crore. Compared with Narayana Murthy's Infosys whose market cap is of Rs 6.26 lakh crore as of last Friday, reported Fortune India citing Even Hindustan Unilever, valued at Rs 5.48 lakh crore almost matches PSX's combined worth. If we look at Pakistan's benchmark index, the KSE-100 combined market cap of Rs 3.31 lakh crore less than UltraTech Cement's Rs 3.34 lakh crore valuation. If Pakistan's stock market drops by 10% in market cap it would bring it down to Rs 2.98 lakh crore, which is almost similar to Ratan Tata's Titan Company's Rs 3.11 lakh crore. A 20% fall will take it to Power Grid Corporation's Rs 2.78 lakh crore valuation. The gap can be seen if compared with multinational corporations (MNCs) in the two countries. Pakistan's top six MNCs Nestle, Colgate-Palmolive, Pakistan Tobacco, Unilever Foods, GSK, and Abbott all collectively have a market cap of Rs 36,660 crore. In India, the same MNCs collectively have 14.8 lakh crore. Companies like Hindustan Unilever and Nestle India surpasses the entire Pakistani MNC sector. Even Pakistan's biggest listed company, the state-owned Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC), has a market cap of Rs 23,812 crore which is just 1.28% of Reliance Industries Rs 18.64 lakh crore valuation. OGDC's market cap is far lesser than Indraprastha Gas at Rs 27,986 crore. In OGDC's Global Depository Receipts (GDRs), its valuation of around Rs 28,000 crore still lags behind India's NLC, valued at over Rs 30,000 crore. The Pakistan Stock Exchange, with a market cap of Rs 527 crore far behind the Bombay Stock Exchange's Rs 88,969 crore.
