Wagga preview: Trainer Bruce Cross and owner Malcolm Chung eye more success with Just Like Tilda
Now, a quarter of a century on, the pair may have themselves another 'good horse' from the very same 'vines' that produced their former dynamic duo.
Her name is Just Like Tilda.
The daughter of Divine Prophet created a lasting impression when finishing over the top of her rivals to score an impressive, bookie-busting, debut win at Kembla earlier this month when crunched from an opening quote of $6.50 into $4.80.
Cross could be forgiven for talking up Just Like Tilda on the score of her debut but is playing down any hype.
'At the moment, I am holding my powder dry,' Cross said.

'Her win at Kembla was a good win and I think she has improved a little bit, but I'm just not prepared to put my head on the block yet.
'Sometimes you can put the cart before the horse and you get too excited.
'That's why we are prepared to take a bit of time with her and give her all the chances she deserves.'
Cross revealed that he had toyed with the idea of a metropolitan start for Just Like Tilda, instead opting for a trip away down to Wagga.
'I thought about it but I was a little bit too scared that she would just get up in the benchmark system too quick,' Cross explained.
'I'm interested to see what she can do on Sunday and looking forward to it to be honest.
'We are going there with our glass half-full. Whatever happens, the trip away, the floating, that all improves a horse and it sort of adds another string to their bow.
'She is a very sensible little filly, we are going there hoping, we just have to wait for the outcome.'
Just Like Tilda will be ridden the Easdown's Accountants Class 1 Handicap (1300m) by Deanne Panya; gun jockey and twin sister of Beany, both of whom spend their mornings at Cross' home ground, Warwick Farm.
'Deanne and Beany are just super young ladies,' Cross said.
'They go out of their way to help you.
'Deanne knows Just Like Tilda pretty well. She's ridden her in a bit of a work and in the trial.
'And to be honest, Deanne might have very well been on her when she won at Kembla except she was suspended.
'Deanne rode a winner (on Thursday) at Gosford, she is very underrated.'
Just Like Tilda is the third foal of her dam Matilda Jade whose foaling date (September 14 in 2011) was the exact same day as Winx.
Matilda Jade was bred and raced by Chung and trained by Cross but sadly, the daughter of I Am Invincible only raced once, finishing runner-up at Gundagai.
'We took her there thinking she would win easily but she got galloped on and severed a tendon so that was the only start she ever had,' Cross said.

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
BLAIKE MCDOUGALL will have plenty of admirers to win the TAB Jockeys Challenge.
HARDLY FORTUNATE (7), an All Too Hard direct descendant of broodmare gem Extradite, was $9 out to $12 when she debuted at Wagga. Smashing run it was too, she drew 9 of 11, was ninth at the turn and got to within inches of the winner. That was 1000m, this is 1200m now. AL FLORES (5), the first foal of Coolmore Classic winning Dixie Blossoms, has had many chances. Many of us are still licking the wounds from her $1.55 loss at Goulburn the other day. Can atone but needs to win back a few fans.
Bet: Hardly Fortunate each-way, quinella 5, 7, box trifecta 2, 5, 7, 12

BADHATHARRY (2) is a rarity, maybe a one of a kind in present day times given he is out a mare by Harry Lawton's beloved Bureaucracy who won the George Ryder way back in 1991. He's also the damsire of Silent Witness. As for Badhatharry, he has had a textbook build-up to 1400m which he is crying out for. Michael Travers has three accepted here and all three could easily medal. MISS PEPEHA (10) is getting closer than ever to a win. His other one Stormy Malice wants 1400m.
Bet: Badhatharry to win

DOC MARCH (11) has been very costly indeed at his last three starts, one at Canberra and two here at home at Wagga. To be fair to the horse, because he is a nice horse, he hasn't been at all helped by wide barriers hence he's been getting way back but running on dutifully. DESERT OPAL (5) has a win, four seconds and a third from his 11 starts, His personal best came last start on May 27 when he won a 1400m Maiden at home at Albury on a Heavy 8. Reliable type, well up to this.
Bet: Doc March to win, exacta 11 to beat 5

CHRISTMAS STAR (2) races in the familiar colours of Shelley Hancox. This grey filly by Star Turn has finished on the podium at eight of her 12 starts. Only two are wins but looking back now, her losses, while costly at the time, were in races where the form has stood up since. Drawn one, should help. ELASTANE MISS (3) has done nothing wrong in her four starts; she won at Albury on a Heavy 10 and all the rest are seconds including one here at home. Third-up here; Blaike McDougall sticking for a third time too.
Bet: Christmas Star to win, quinella 2, 3
â– â– â– â– â–
STAY TUNED (4) is a Paul and Martha Cave-trained gelding who makes his second visit to Wagga bearing in mind that he broke his maiden here almost 12 months to the day. Fast forward to now and the son of Prized Icon is off a closing second to Hooligan Tommy at Kembla. Ready for 2000m. AVONVIEW (6) is as fit as any horse racing on the card. Well placed apart from the draw. Any upgrade from Heavy could also assist. DANDRUFF (2) will stay all day and is one for one on Heavy.
Bet: Stay Tuned to win, Daily Double 1st Leg 4, 2nd Leg 1
â– â– â– â– â–
CONDOR (3) had his first 13 starts in Singapore, where he won twice and posted two placings. His last four starts are for Tim Fitzsimmons and are '1211'. That second by the way was at Bendigo by less than a neck. Big winner on the Heavy 9 at Mornington last time. Obviously Condor is flying, pardon the pun. MAJOR TIME (5) is a grand old campaigner from the Gratz Vella camp. He's got a good set of numbers across the board and as for each-way punters are concerned; he has won and placed at 34 of his 65 starts.
Bet: Condor to win, exacta 3 to beat 5
â– â– â– â– â–
JUST LIKE TILDA (1) was just so impressive winning on debut at Kembla when $6.50 into $4.40. Won with a lot of authority on the day demonstrating a high degree of race-smarts and quality. Deanne Panya knows her well, so does the trainer of course and he's set her a task that while not a total slam dunk, looks pretty close to it.
Bet: Just like Tilda to win, exacta 1 to beat 5.

Wagga Wagga RSL club members rebel over alleged ban on Lest We Forget shirts
A bizarre blow-up over Lest We Forget shirts has hit RSL Australia. Members of the Wagga Wagga RSL claim a club representative instructed them to ditch their shirts, which sport a blue military design and bear the phrase Lest We Forget, claiming the phrase was trademarked by the RSL. David Ashford, speaking with 2GB on Friday morning, said he and his bowling friends had been told they 'couldn't wear the shirts or we might have to leave'. 'If we wear our shirts, we are not allowed to bowl,' he said. He said he and his fellow club members were 'disgusted' by the alleged ban. 'We wore it last Anzac Day and nobody said anything,' he said. But it is not clear if there is a ban in place. In a statement released to 2GB and read out on air by Ben Fordham, RSL Australia said it had not placed any restrictions on the shirts. 'This is the first time RSL Australia has been made aware of this matter,' the RSL said. 'And the RSL has not placed any restrictions on its use by the Wagga Wagga RSL club.' Fordham suggested someone might be 'telling lies' at the club. 'It may well be a trademark, but they are not enforcing it,' he said. 'It sounds like someone is telling lies at the Wagga RSL Bowling Club. 'My advice to those involved, just keep on wearing the shirts.'

Souths coach Wayne Bennett hopeful Latrell Mitchell's season isn't over despite injury setback
Latrell Mitchell's rotten injury luck has continued with the South Sydney superstar ruled out of Saturday's clash against the Eels after he pinched a nerve in his back during his return game last week. The rep star hadn't played since round 17 due to a quad injury but had some classy moments against the Titans with a lovely pass to set up Alex Johnston for a try, while he also came up with a big effort play to jolt the ball free when Jayden Campbell looked certain to score. Mitchell will miss the Gadhu Gathering game at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night, but coach Wayne Bennett is hopeful his main attacking weapon will be fit to return next Thursday against the Dragons. 'He's not playing. He's pinched a nerve in his back and he's not mobile enough,' the Rabbitohs coach said. 'He did it in the game (last week). 'We're disappointed he's not playing but we think he should be back next week. 'He's disappointed because he's hardly played any football in the last three months. 'You can be sad about it, you can be anything you like about it. But the bottom line is that he's not playing and he's not fit to play.' While Mitchell won't play, Souths are set to welcome back veteran playmaker Cody Walker after his latest soft tissue injury. Walker has endured a wretched run of setbacks in 2025 but is set to come off the bench on Saturday night in a huge boost to their attack on the left edge. 'We're not going to start him, we're going to start him on the bench,' Bennett said. 'He's done all the criteria and met all the standards with the fitness he needs, so we'll get him on the field.' If Mitchell and Walker can reunite next week, then Johnston is a chance of breaking Ken Irvine's try-scoring record at Accor Stadium. The winger is just three behind Irvine's record haul of 212 and will break it this year if he has the star duo playing next to him. 'He knows his way to the try line,' Bennett said. 'That's instinctive. It's not something you can coach.'

Tammy Hembrow's ex's bombshell divorce claim, days after Bailey Smith date
It's been the headline everyone's been talking about this week – Australian influencer Tammy Hembrow stepping out with AFL star Bailey Smith. Photos and social media chatter quickly fuelled speculation that the pair are dating, just two months after Hembrow's split from Love Island 's Matt Zukowski. Now, Zukowski has addressed the news on his Where's Your Head At? podcast, admitting that while he was the one to end their relationship, seeing his ex-wife with someone else still stung. If you're well-versed in Zukowski-Hembrow lore, the detail of him ending their relationship might stop you in your tracks. At the time of their divorce announcement, the break-up appeared mutual, and some fans even assumed Hembrow was the one to call it quits. In June, the fitness mogul took to TikTok with a tearful video, telling fans she had 'no other option' but to end her marriage. She also said, ' I am going to be getting a divorce,' leading many to speculate she would be the one to file. Mentions of 'not making the best choices' and 'putting rose-coloured glasses on' were also brought up. Meanwhile, Zukowski said around the same time that 'both of us have struggled with this decision'. But in his latest episode, the 29-year-old reality star changed his tack, and claimed it was his decision alone. Hembrow's ex claims he ended things 'Yeah, so my weekend was a different style of weekend,' he began telling co-host Anna McEvoy. 'Obviously, everyone's seen it … my ex has moved on with someone'. He then confirmed, 'A couple of months ago, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life. I decided to leave a relationship that I found was not right for me. It was unhealthy for me. 'And I made the decision for my mental health to leave.' Despite that, he admitted it hasn't been easy watching Hembrow's dating life play out so publicly. 'In doing that, it does not make it any easier seeing the person that you loved, the person that you married, move on with someone,' Zukowski continued. 'In previous relationships I've been in … it's not a public thing. 'And there's things you can do. Block them, mute them, move cities even, tell your friends not to tell you anything about them. But unfortunately, with the relationship I was in, it's right there. 'So as much as I know the relationship was done, seeing the person that you married and once loved and thought you were gonna spend the rest of your life with, it's not an easy sight to see them moving on. When it's splashed everywhere, that sucks.' 'Not what you want to see' Zukowski emphasised that 'everyone's allowed to move on at their own pace' and he's not 'judging anyone for moving on quickly'. 'It's just like, oh wow, you know, wow,' he said, his voice sounding shaken. He then addressed the media attention, saying, 'Obviously when this stuff comes out, people want my statement, so I'm getting an influx of messages from different publications … and I'm not angry that it's happened. It's just not ideal to see. It's not what you want to see. 'I don't think anyone wants to see their ex moving on with someone. No matter how the relationship ended, no matter what, you still don't want to see that, especially when you've married them, and you thought that that was your person for the rest of your life.' Zukowski finished by telling listeners he plans to keep sharing his healing process with them over future episodes. 'I know I said that I wasn't going to address this any further and keep talking about it, but you know, things are going to arise as I go on the journey of healing and I have this podcast people listen every week and I think that I might share my journey with them and how I'm travelling and how my healing is going. So I'll keep you guys posted.' Hembrow breaks silence Hembrow seems to be taking a more lighthearted approach to the headlines. In typical influencer style, the 31-year-old shared a lip-synching TikTok on Wednesday with a message to people who have criticised her for moving on. In the clip, Hembrow mouthed the words from a Barbie movie clip that says: 'Don't be f***ing boring. This whole town is so f***ing boring. I don't care,' and rolls her eyes. She also appeared to be wearing Smith's jacket during the clip, which was a subtle hint that the pair are dating. It comes after the mum of three has shared several candid and emotional updates about her divorce. 'Hopefully, I'll be more cautious going forward and more eyes wide open and listen to the people around me …' she said about the break-up in June. Then in July, Hembrow filmed herself on a step machine and captioned the video: 'A step for every time I should have listened to my sisters'. Her sisters, Emilee, 32, and Amy, 34, earlier shared their concerns about the pair's relationship, calling Zukowski 'a big baby'. She's also shared various TikToks to lyrics like Taylor Swift's: 'Bitter but I swear I'm fine'. As for the reasons behind the split, Hembrow hasn't gone into detail about causes, only hinting at issues like her tendency to ignore red flags and 'get swept up' in relationships.
