Boris Johnson Backs 'Brave' Trump's Tariffs, Asks UK And Europe To Follow: 'Have The Guts?'

Last Updated: Boris Johnson supports Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on countries importing Russian oil, calling it "brave, principled and logical." Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson voiced strong support for US President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on countries importing Russian oil, calling the move 'brave, principled and logical." In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Boris Johnson praised Donald Trump's latest executive action and challenged Britain and other European nations to follow suit. 'Donald Trump has done the brave, principled and logical thing- finally punishing the countries that have been funding Putin's vicious war machine by buying Russian oil and gas," Boris Johnson wrote. The remarks come in the wake of Donald Trump's newly announced 25% additional tariffs on Indian goods, citing New Delhi's continued purchase of Russian crude as justification. Boris Johnson's comments add pressure on the UK and European governments, some of whom still allow pipeline imports or purchase refined products of Russian origin through third countries. In March this year, Boris Johnson had taken a swipe at Russian President Vladimir Putin, following the latter's refusal to accept a ceasefire proposal backed by Donald Trump. Posting on X then, Boris Johnson claimed Vladimir Putin's rejection showed the Russian leader was 'laughing at us." 'What a surprise- Putin rejects an unconditional ceasefire. He wants to keep bombing and killing innocent Ukrainians. He wants Ukraine disarmed. He wants Ukraine neutralised. He wants to make Ukraine a vassal state of Russia. He isn't negotiating. He's laughing at us," Boris Johnson wrote. Get breaking news, in-depth analysis, and expert perspectives on everything from geopolitics to diplomacy and global trends. 'Why is Varamahalakshmi celebrated?' Bengaluru shop's ChatGPT-inspired ad goes viral; here's why

In Bengaluru, where new ideas are always buzzing, a local saree shop has found a creative way to grab attention ahead of the Varamahalakshmi festival. Instead of using the usual ads, the shop put up a display that looks just like a ChatGPT conversation screen– and it's got everyone talking on social media. An ad that speaks the language of today's audience The ad copies the look of a chat window from a conversational AI, with the question, 'Why is Varamahalakshmi festival celebrated?' This clever twist has caught people's attention and shows how Bengaluru brands are using modern digital trends to stay relatable and connect with today's audience. Sharing the image on X (formerly Twitter), one user noted, 'Local saree shop in Bangalore using ChatGPT mobile interface for an ad is a first. Earlier, it would be the Google search bar design. Just Bangalore things, I guess.' This remark, according to the post, highlights how Bengaluru continues to lead in blending tradition with cutting-edge trends. Timing aligned with cultural rhythms According to a Hindustan Times report, with the festival approaching on August 8 – a time when saree shopping is at its peak in South India– the shop's campaign couldn't be better timed. Using a conversational AI style adds a fun, modern twist to the festive shopping buzz. Flexible payment options complement the campaign The store's modern thinking isn't just limited to its marketing. As one user shared on X, it also offers a scheme where customers 'pay for 11 months, get 1 month free' – making it easier for people to shop during the festive season without feeling the financial pinch, according to the HT report. Echoing Bengaluru's tech-savvy spirit According to the report, this campaign has drawn comparisons to other viral Bengaluru moments, such as an image of an auto driver streaming a Naval Ravikant podcast while navigating the city's traffic. As one social media comment put it, 'Only in Bengaluru can a saree shop and an auto driver both go viral for tech-savvy moments.' This captures the city's unique blend of tradition, technology, and everyday hustle. Thumb image: Canva (for representative purposes only)

Tesla CEO Elon Musk responds to shareholders' lawsuit: ‘They are scum of the Earth. The worst….'

Tesla shareholders recently filed a lawsuit accusing CEO Elon Musk and the EV maker of securities fraud for hiding safety risks of Tesla's self-driving tech, including the Robotaxi. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The lawsuit alleges that Tesla misled investors by not disclosing problems with its self-driving vehicles. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has responded to the lawsuit on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He said lawsuits like this are not driven by real investors but by "class-action lawyers" trying to earn a share of the settlement. Musk called these lawyers 'scum of the Earth' and criticized the legal system for allowing such cases. 'It's never actually investors. It's always shitty class-action lawyers grifting for their percentage of the verdict. They are scum of the Earth. The worst human being I've ever encountered,' CEO Elon Musk wrote on X. What Tesla shareholders said about its Robotaxi service As reported by news agency Reuters, Tesla shareholders have alleged that the company exaggerated the capabilities of its autonomous driving technology, thereby overstating its business outlook and inflating its stock value. However, the company's stock declined by 6.1% across two consecutive trading sessions following the start of the test. The lawsuit aims to recover unspecified damages for investors who held shares between April 19, 2023, and June 22, 2025, Reuters added. Tesla Robotaxi service teased to launch in San Francisco The lawsuit comes after Elon Musk teased the launch of Tesla's robotaxi service in San Francisco last week. The service's expected expansion will follow a limited pilot in Austin, Texas, where a small fleet of vehicles started operating within a geofenced area. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In San Francisco, the initial operational zone is expected to cover the broader Bay Area. Select Tesla owners have received early invitations, and the launch has reportedly also been moved up. Expansion plans for this service even include states like Nevada, Arizona, and Florida, but broader deployment depends on obtaining regulatory approvals. In California, Tesla has yet to complete the permit process required for full driverless services, with state agencies emphasising safety evaluations.
