‘The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills' Get Glitzy Debut at Comic-Con

- Nation's biggest pop culture event was launchpad for new illustrated novel -
LOS ANGELES, Calif., Aug. 6, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The glittering facade of Beverly Hills just got a serious makeover in the pages of 'The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills' illustrated novel. Writer and longtime comic-book scribe Steve Stern ('Zen Intergalactic Ninja') said, 'It's the story of four students at Beverly Hills High who receive some wild powers during a cosmic event at Griffith Observatory, are immediately outed by a tabloid reporter, and then given their own reality TV show.' He added with a smile, 'What could possibly go wrong?'
Jim Fletcher, who for years was Creative Director of DC Direct, the collectible merchandise division of DC Comics, teamed up with his daughter Leila to provide the illustrations for the novel. 'We set out to explore what heroism looks like when filtered through the lens of fame, vanity and the age of social media,' Fletcher said.
'The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills' is published by 1First Books. Publisher Ken F. Levin, who is also an Executive Producer of the Amazon Prime megahit 'The Boys,' said, 'With its unique concept, this illustrated novel is a great new addition to our growing imprint, and it received a highly enthusiastic reception at Comic-Con.'
Stern and Fletcher have a long history. The two met decades ago when Fletcher created the packaging art for the 'Zen Intergalactic Ninja' videogames from Konami and action figures from Just Toys, as well as illustrated all of the covers for the 'Zen' series published by Archie Comics.
A genre-bending mix of action, humor, and satire that offers a fresh take on the superhero genre, 'The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills' is also suitably action-packed, with a revenge-seeking psychopath who employs an army of AI-enhanced henchmen to disrupt events at the Beverly Hills Hotel — as well as at Comic-Con itself.
Stern, himself a resident of Beverly Hills, said, 'We wanted to really have fun at some of the iconic locations that figure into the book.'
What's in the future for 'The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills'? 'Everyone who got a copy at Comic-Con invariably asked, 'Is this a reality TV show?'' Stern added. 'And my answer was always, 'Hopefully, it will be.'

First Look at the Main Characters from THE BOYS Prequel Series VOUGHT RISING — GeekTyrant

As The Boys gears up for its explosive final season in 2026, Amazon Prime is already setting the stage for what's next in its growing franchise with a prequel series titled Vought Rising . This upcoming show is set to reveal the shadowy history of Vought International and show how it cemented its grip on the world of supes. The first official images from Vought Rising have been revealed, and fans will be happy to see the return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, only this time, we're seeing him in his prime as the 'heroic' face of American patriotism in the 1950s. His presence will be front and center as the story unfolds in an era when Vought was still shaping the corrupt foundations we see in the present timeline of The Boys . The new character lineup also includes Mason Dye as Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, and Will Hochman as Torpedo. Each looks like they'll bring a unique edge to the twisted superhero roster fans have come to expect from this universe. Notably missing from the first-look images is Aya Cash's Stormfront, but don't worry, she's a key part of the series. According to reports, Vought Rising will explore her complex history as Nazi Germany's super-powered icon during WWII and delve into her post-war presence in the U.S. where she crosses paths with Soldier Boy. Expect a tense and disturbing dynamic between the two, especially considering their very different ideas of nationalism and power. The series doesn't have an official release date yet, but it's currently in production. Until then, fans can look forward to Gen V Season 2 arriving next month, while the countdown to The Boys final season continues.

Wayne Rooney says he was 'very disappointed' after Tom Brady questioned work ethic: 'It was very unfair'

Former Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney isn't pleased with Tom Brady after the former New England Patriots great questioned Rooney's work ethic in a documentary. Rooney said he was "very disappointed" by Brady's comments, which Rooney called "very unfair," according to The Athletic. The controversy started after Brady expressed concerns about Rooney during the "Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues" docuseries on Amazon Prime. The program, which aired Aug. 1, followed the Birmingham City Football Club after Brady joined the club as a minority owner in 2023. During an episode of the series, Brady called out Rooney's work ethic, saying, "I'm a little worried about our head coach's work ethic." He later added, 'I mean, I don't know, I don't have great instincts on that.' Rooney pushed back on that criticism on his podcast, saying Brady's comments were "unfair," per The Athletic. 'I saw that last week from Tom Brady. I think it was a very unfair comment. 'I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well. But what he does understand is, he's a hard worker, we know that. 'Football is not the NFL. NFL works for three months a year. Players do need rest as well, so I think it was very unfair, the way he's come out and portrayed that.' Brady won out in the end. Rooney was fired after just 15 matches. Birmingham City turned in one of its worst seasons, and was relegated to League One. While Rooney was upset about the comments, he was careful not to rip Brady. In addition to calling Brady a "hard worker," Rooney said he has "respect" for Brady. Rooney also called Brady "one of the greatest, if not the greatest athlete of all time." Rooney also delivered an all-time, out-of-context quote about Brady, saying, "I don't think he really understood football that well." Rooney was obviously using the term "football" to mean soccer, but it's still a funny thing to read about Brady. Birmingham City bounced back quickly after showing Rooney the door. The team broke the record for most points scored in League One the following season and earned a promotion. Rooney was hired by Plymouth Argyle in May of 2024. His tenure with the club lasted just a few months. With the team in last place, Rooney and Plymouth Argyle agreed to mutually split in December. Rooney, considered one of the greatest soccer players of his era, has not been hired by another club since leaving Plymouth Argyle.

Bask in the Golden Age Hero Stylings of ‘The Boys' Prequel ‘Vought Rising'

As The Boys prepares to say goodbye in 2026, the Amazon Prime franchise is gearing up for its prequel spin-off. In Vought Rising, some familiar faces, including Soldier Boy (Jenson Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash) are set to feature, alongside some new heroes. The upcoming Amazon series will explore the origin story that establishes the foundation for the nefarious presence of the corporate entity controlling the superhero world throughout the history of the Boys universe. Today, the streamer unveiled (via Deadline) a first look at the characters, including Ackles' return as Soldier Boy in his prime heroic era. Aside from Ackles, the first look also introduced us to Mason Dye's Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey's Private Angel, and Will Hochman as Torpedo. Cash's Stormfront was nowhere to be found; however, she will be a major focus in the series, which will be set in the 1950s and explore her dynamic with the world of supers after being Nazi Germany's superheroic symbol during the war, having been opposed by Soldier Boy himself. There's no date yet for when Vought Rising is set to hit Prime, but the series is now entering production—so we'll need to just keep waiting for The Boys' final return next year in the meantime (and the arrival of Gen V season 2 next month).
