Mauricio Pochettino rules himself out of contention for Tottenham job
Spurs are seeking a new head coach having sacked Postecoglou just 16 days after leading the club to Europa League glory, their first trophy in 17 years. United States boss Pochettino ended a five-year stay at Tottenham in November 2019, having helped Spurs reach the final of the Champions League that year. Pochettino took Tottenham to a Champions League final (Adam Davy/PA) The Argentinian signed a two-year contract to become US head coach last September and is expected to lead the team into next year's home World Cup. Speaking after his side's 2-1 friendly defeat to Turkey in Connecticut, Pochettino told reporters: 'After I left in 2019, every time that I was free, and the place of the position of the manager or head coach in Tottenham Hotspur, my name is appearing on the list. 'If you have seen the rumours, I think there are 100 coaches in the list. I think, don't be worried about that. Postecoglou was sacked 16 days after guiding the club to European success (Andrew Milligan/PA) 'If something happened, for sure you will see, but we cannot talk about this type of thing, because I think today, it's not real. It's not realistic. 'Look at where I am, where we are. And the thing is, the answer is so clear, no? But we're talking about it because it's my club, like Newells or Espanyol.' Meanwhile Tottenham have exercised the 12-month option in Ben Davies' deal to keep him at the club for another season. Davies is Spurs' longest serving player after he joined in the summer of 2015 – two months before the arrival of Son Heung-min. Wales defender Davies has made 358 appearances for Tottenham and is set to work under his sixth permanent head coach at the club during the 2025-26 campaign after Postecoglou's dismissal on Friday. Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite for the vacancy, but as of Saturday, Tottenham were yet to make an official approach for the Danish coach, the PA news agency understands.

Jack Grealish may be handed perfect transfer after brutal axe by Man City
Jack Grealish is looking for a way out of Manchester City and Newcastle United could come in with a loan offer as they prepare for a return to the Champions League Newcastle are ready to offer Jack Grealish a way out of Manchester City as they weigh up a loan move for the out-of-favour playmaker. The £100million man has fallen well down the pecking order at the Etihad and is after a way out. A switch to St James' Park could allow him to rediscover his best form with the Magpies open to signing him for the season. Grealish will miss out on the City squad that heads to the Club World Cup, further underlining his decline. The problem for him and the Premier League giants is his mammoth £300,000-a-week salary. Few suitors will take on the entirety of his wages and City may have to foot some of the bill to get him out of Manchester, even if only temporarily. Newcastle are back in the Champions League next season and Eddie Howe has continued to get the most out of the players he's worked with. Joelinton and Jacob Murphy are examples of those who have thrived and Grealish will hope for a similar upturn in form. The interest from the Magpies will only ramp up if they begin receiving offers for Anthony Gordon, reports The Sun. The winger has become a leading light in the north east, but has been the subject of transfer interest. Newcastle signed Gordon for £40m from Everton three seasons ago and he's been a huge hit. Liverpool were heavily linked last summer and the player was interested in the move, but ultimately stayed put. Howe would be loathe to lose his star man. Grealish has previously shown he can be hugely effective and as Newcastle balance multiple competitions, his nous could be very useful. His City's treble-winning season the ex-Villa man was an influential figure as he played out wide - and prior to that was a key man at Villa Park. Pep Guardiola has admitted that Grealish needs regular minutes despite overlooking him on numerous occasions. He said: 'Of course, Jack has to play. He's an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn't happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it, with us or another place. 'It's a question for Jack, his agent and the club. If he stays it will be fine and he will fight like he fought from day one to make a contribution, but not today.' Guardiola also added: 'It's nothing personal with Jack. I'm the person who fought for him to come here and the person who fought for him to stay here this season."
