Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra, who was analysing the newly drawn fixtures, said that despite Australia's dominant start to the 2025–27 WTC cycle, their path will be far from straightforward. Australia currently top the table with 100 percentage points after a 3-0 away sweep against West Indies.

'Their home series are against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh.
They will 100 percent win against Bangladesh. They should win against New Zealand. They should win against England as well. However, it's a five-match series, so they are unlikely to get full points,' Chopra said.

South Africa

Pointing to the India tour as a potential stumbling block, he added: 'I feel they will leave India after losing to them. They might win just one match. If they win only one match, they will lose a lot of points. South Africa will challenge them again.

So it is not that straightforward. Decent chance, but I won't say strong contenders.'

Chopra also flagged Australia's ageing bowling attack, warning of an imminent transition period that could impact results.
The former opener was equally sceptical about defending champions South Africa's prospects, noting their challenging schedule. 'Australia, England and Bangladesh are South Africa's home series. Australia and England are tough, and they will beat Bangladesh. The away series are against India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. South Africa have less chances. All three of their away series are in the subcontinent. They will find it difficult to even draw all three of those series,' he said.
'South Africa, in my opinion, might not qualify. There is a good chance of them not qualifying,' Chopra concluded.

Asia Cup: Jasprit Bumrah in contention, Gill-Axar for vice captaincy says report
Shubman Gill is the flavour of the season after his stupendous show in the recent Test series against England but he will face a contender in Axar Patel for vice-captaincy in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup T20 scheduled in the UAE next pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is set to play in the tournament and might be rested for the opening Test against the West Indies in early Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is likely to select the squad for the Asia Cup on August 19 or 20 depending on when the Centre of Excellence's (CoE) Sports Science team sends the medical bulletin of all players, including that of skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who has already started batting at the nets in Bengaluru. There will be some tricky selection calls but the Indian selectors would certainly like to maintain continuity which has given them a lot of success from the time Suryakumar took over as T20 Axar was the designated vice-captain during India's last series against England at home, Gill was the deputy when Suryakumar was first appointed full-time skipper of the T20 squad in Sri Lanka last is understood that the selection committee won't be too keen to tinker with the set-up as Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya form a solid top five."Abhishek Sharma is world's No. 1 T20 batter in last ICC rankings. Sanju Samson has been fantastic last season with both bat and gloves. So it will certainly be a tough call but Shubman in current form (although in Tests) can't be ignored. He had a good IPL also. Problem for selectors is, there are too many performers at the top of the order," a BCCI source privy to developments told so many players in top-order, it would be very difficult to find a slot for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai KL Rahul, who is now the first choice keeper in ODIs, is unlikely to be considered as he doesn't bat in the keeper's slotWhile Samson is all but certain to be the first keeper, the choice for the second keeper's slot will be between Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel. KL Rahul's unique birthday wish for 'Ajja' Suniel Shetty
KL Rahul and Suniel Shetty (Image credit: KL's Instagram) NEW DELHI: India star batter KL Rahul on Monday shared a heartfelt post for his father-in-law and actor Suniel Shetty on his birthday. Rahul took to Instagram and posted a picture with Suniel and brother-in-law Ahan Shetty. "Happy happy birthday Ajja. Keep inspiring us with everything you do. And pls rest more," KL Rahul wrote. Rahul's wife Athiya also penned a loving note: "Happy birthday to the best father and now the best Ajja. We love you sooo much! Thank you for all that you are." Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Suniel Shetty was recently in London with his family, attending the India vs England match at The Oval. Both Suniel and his son Ahan shared moments from the game as they celebrated India's historic win. Rahul himself had an impressive series in England, scoring 532 runs at an average of 53.20, including two centuries and two half-centuries. After India registered a 2-2 draw in the five-match series against England, Rahul said the result "will rank right at the top" among the biggest moments of Indian cricket, especially since it was achieved by a team that "wasn't given a chance" in the absence of giants like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma . Led by Mohammed Siraj's extraordinary bowling effort, which fetched him a five-wicket haul in the second innings, India scraped past England by six runs in the series-deciding fifth and final Test. The victory sealed the 2-2 draw in a hard-fought series that saw India repeatedly claw back from difficult situations. "We have seen India lift the World Cup, I mean nothing compares to lifting the World Cup. But so many doubts, so many questions from everybody about whether Test cricket will stay or not. I think both the teams and the way we've played in this series, I think we've answered that question," Rahul said at the post-match press conference. "For us as a team, that wasn't given a chance in this series. And for us to fight back and to fight in every game and to get a result which is 2-2 might seem like a drop. But for us and for Indian Test cricket going in the future, I think this will rank right at the top," he added. He expressed confidence that the Indian Test team will go on to win many more series "outside of India" and credited the entire squad. "For the start of the series, we had Virat Kohli retiring, Rohit Sharma retiring, we had Ashwin retiring. So three big names out of the roster in India's team," he pointed out. Poll How do you feel about KL Rahul's tribute to Suniel Shetty on his birthday? Very Heartwarming Somewhat Heartwarming Neutral Not Heartwarming at All Now a senior player, Rahul emerged as one of India's standout performers with 532 runs across the five Tests, forging a solid partnership with the young Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top. "Yeah, I think it hit me when I joined the team. I was here about two weeks earlier playing India A's and it didn't hit me back then. But once I joined the team and I looked around and I didn't have Rohit and Virat and Ashwin who I played all my cricket with... "Just to look around and not see them felt a bit weird. But yeah, that's when it hit me that everyone else is looking at me, coming to me to ask about English conditions, what they need to do, how they need to prepare." Rahul said he leaned on his experience to not only perform but also guide the younger players. "And that's when it hit me that, okay, I've stepped into a different role now and it's time for me to help the younger guys. Use all the experience I've had of playing Test cricket and international cricket over the years and really put my hand up and stand up for this team. "This moment almost feels like this is a young team that's going to stay there for a long time." While new skipper Shubman Gill topped the scoring charts with over 700 runs, Rahul wasn't far behind, providing stability at the top of the order with his calm and composed batting. If Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar can...': Sarfaraz Khan questions BCCI intent for...
If Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar can...': Sarfaraz Khan questions BCCI intent for... New Delhi: Sarfaraz Khan, the neglected batsman of the Indian team, believes that all Mumbai cricketers should take part in the Kanga League competition. Sarfaraz himself took part in this tournament held in the monsoon season and said that players should not avoid playing in it for fear of failure. He was ignored by the selectors for the five-match Test series against England, but he made headlines with his brilliant fitness transformation and performance on the field. Playing for Parkophene Cricketers against Islam Gymkhana, he scored 61 runs in 42 balls. Why is Kanga League special for Sarfaraz? Sarfaraz said, 'I was so excited about this match that the reporting time was 8:30, but I reached at 8 o'clock itself. Batting on the pitch was not easy; once, the ball also hit my helmet. There was a thick layer of grass on the outfield, which was making it difficult to hit fours.' He recalled that in his childhood, he had heard from his father, Naushad Khan, that Sunil Gavaskar had come to play Kanga League the same day after returning from England. That is why Sarfaraz and his younger brother Mushir feel proud to play in this tournament. Can this tournament change the careers of players? Sarfaraz said, 'Some players think that failure here will affect their careers, but if Gavaskar Sir and Sachin Tendulkar Sir had also thought so, they would not have become legends. If big players play in this tournament, it will be an inspiration for the youth of the city.' He also added that if someone succeeds in Kanga League, he can score runs on any ground in the world. Preparing to return to Team India Sarfaraz played Kanga League after three years and gained confidence by looking at his old performance. His name may be under consideration for selection for the upcoming two-Test series, and with this performance, he has given a strong message to the selectors.
