Commercial vehicle driver and company charged after police find ‘major defect'

CTV News2 days ago
OPP pulls over a commercial motor vehicle in Caledon, Ont. and say officers discovered a major defect.
Ontario Provincial Police say a truck driver and the company he works for are facing multiple charges after a commercial vehicle inspection in Caledon.
Police say officers with Caledon OPP pulled over a commercial vehicle and found several violations during the stop.
A 32-year-old man from Brampton was charged with driving a commercial vehicle with a major defect, failing to properly complete a daily inspection report, using a licence plate not in accordance with regulations, failing to display an inspection sticker or proof, and not having an insurance card.
A numbered company based in Brampton was also charged with permitting the operation of a vehicle without an inspection sticker or proof displayed, failing to provide the driver with a daily inspection schedule, and failing to ensure performance standards were met.
In Ontario, a 'major defect' refers to a serious safety issue, such as faulty brakes, damaged steering components, or problems with tires or lights. By law, commercial drivers must check for any issues during daily inspections and fix them before hitting the road.
OPP says inspections are part of ongoing enforcement to keep unsafe commercial vehicles off the roads.
