Former Texas A&M legend, current NFL head coach awarded for lifetime achievements
Former Texas A&M legend and current Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was honored with the Lettermen's Association 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday for his contributions as an Aggie and his achievements as a coach.
The Texas A&M football program put together a surprise for Campbell, as he thought he was only joining his former strength coach Mike Clark for an "interview" about his time playing in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Little did he know, awaiting him would be several of his former coaches, teammates and players from throughout his career to congratulate him on the outstanding honor.
Campbell played tight end for the Aggies from 1995-1998, hauling in 27 receptions for 314 yards and three touchdowns in the Maroon and White. Following the end of his collegiate career, he was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft.
The Clifton, Texas, native spent stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, and New Orleans Saints before transitioning into his career as a coach. He started as an intern with the Miami Dolphins, where he quickly found his footing. After the Dolphins fired former head coach Joe Philbin, Campbell was anointed the interim head coach.
Campbell returned to New Orleans in 2016 to become the new assistant head coach and tight ends coach, before he was hired by the Lions in 2021 to become the 28th head coach of the franchise. Since then, the former Aggie has broken the mold in Detroit to form one of the powerhouse teams in the NFC.
The Lions have reached unprecedented heights over the last few seasons under Campbell, which included securing a 12-5 record to tie the franchise's single-season wins record, claiming the first divisional title since 1993 and advancing to the first NFC Championship since 1991.
His gritty mentality, determination and dedication to the game of football have been well-received by the Lions fanbase. However, those traits and Campbell's contributions on and off the gridiron at Texas A&M are what led to this moment.

WR Simi Fehoko Fehoko had his first preseason action, missing last week's game with a quad injury. He had two receptions for 21 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown reception. He also made a special teams tackle. He is a player most fans won't know, but the TV broadcast emphasized he is good on special teams. He showed enough to probably secure a spot on the roster, especially considering he ha almost all his salary guaranteed in 2025. K Chad Ryland He only had the one extra point and did not have a field-goal attempt, But before the game, he drilled a 72-yard field goal. There is no issue with his leg. That was about it. Kalen DeBoer updates status of two injured Alabama starting linemen
According to head coach Kalen DeBoer, a pair of starting Alabama Crimson Tide linemen have missed the program's second consecutive scrimmage of fall camp. Those players are offensive guard Jaeden Roberts and defensive tackle James Smith, both of which are dealing with injuries leading up to Alabama's season opener at Florida State on Saturday, Aug. 30, according to DeBoer. DeBoer also recently gave an update on the status of both following the Crimson Tide's scrimmage Saturday, saying of the duo: "Two guys that didn't scrimmage today, Jaeden and James, same as last week," DeBoer said. "James has been working through and building up. Feel good about the progress he's had in the week of practice and with it being live. Needed to hold back there, but he's getting closer by the day." "Jaeden has a concussion, just to tell you what it is, and he's going through the protocol of that and hasn't done anything from a team standpoint. Starting to work back into that protocol, which included being out there today, but not to participate in the scrimmage." A storyline to monitor leading up to Week 1, if Roberts is unavailable for the season opener, then Geno VanDeMark would likely step into the starting role at right guard. If Smith is unavailable, then names such as Jeremiah Beaman and Edric Hill could see increased snaps at defensive tackle. Alabama will open the 2025 season Saturday, Aug. 30 on the road at Florida State. Spike Lee says ESPN won't air his Colin Kaepernick series
ESPN has confirmed it will not move forward with a highly anticipated docuseries about Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who ignited a national movement in 2016 by kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality. The eight-part series, directed by Oscar-winner Spike Lee, was announced in 2022 and promoted as a first-person account of Kaepernick's journey from NFL star to civil rights figure. But on Saturday, Aug. 16, both ESPN and Lee said the project had been canceled due to 'creative differences.' 'ESPN, Colin Kaepernick and Spike Lee have collectively decided to no longer proceed with this project as a result of certain creative differences,' the network said in a statement. 'Despite not reaching finality, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that went into this film.' Lee revealed the news the night before, on Friday, Aug. 15, while attending a fundraiser in Beverly Hills. 'It's not coming out. That's all I can say,' he told Reuters, citing a nondisclosure agreement that barred him from elaborating. The project had already encountered setbacks. In 2023, Puck News reported that Lee and Kaepernick had disagreed over the film's direction, delaying production. ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro was reportedly open to allowing the filmmakers to shop the series elsewhere. Kaepernick, now 37, has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season. The 49ers released him in 2017, citing football-related reasons, though many believe his political activism significantly influenced the league's decision to keep him unsigned.
