The policy, approved by the Union Cabinet earlier in July, aims to transform India's sporting landscape and make the country a global sporting powerhouse.
"Villages, the poor and daughters are the priority of 'Khelo Bharat Niti 2025'. Schools and colleges will now make sports a part of everyday life. Startups related to sports, whether they be sports management or manufacturing, will be helped in every way," Modi said during his address.

"I have received messages from many young athletes and their parents. In these, the 'Khelo Bharat Niti 2025' has been highly appreciated. The goal of this policy is clear - to make India a sporting superpower," the Prime Minister stated.

odi emphasized the importance of self-reliance in sports equipment manufacturing, suggesting that the mission will strengthen when youngsters play with self-made equipment.
"Sports create team spirit. This is the path to fitness, self-confidence and building a strong India. So play a lot, blossom a lot," he added.
The new policy replaces the National Sports Policy of 2001 and presents a strategic roadmap to establish India as a major contender in international sporting events, including the 2036 Olympic Games.
The NSP 2025 was developed through extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including Central Ministries, NITI Aayog, State Governments, National Sports Federations, athletes, and domain experts.
The policy focuses on excellence in global sports by strengthening programs from grassroots to elite levels, including early talent identification and nurturing.
It aims to establish competitive leagues, develop sports infrastructure in both rural and urban areas, and create world-class systems for training, coaching, and athlete support.
The policy also emphasizes the adoption of sports science, medicine, and technology to enhance athletic performance, along with training sports personnel, including coaches and support staff.
NSP 2025 recognizes sports' economic potential and aims to promote sports tourism while attracting major international events to India. It also focuses on strengthening the sports manufacturing ecosystem and encouraging private sector participation through various initiatives.

During his address, Modi also praised the Indian contingent's performance at the World Police and Fire Games in the USA, where they won 588 medals.
Team India secured 280 gold medals at the 21st edition of the games held in Birmingham, Alabama from June 27 to July 6. India ranked third overall, following the USA with 1,354 medals and Brazil with 743 medals.
Modi expressed enthusiasm about India hosting the 2029 edition of the tournament in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, stating that India will showcase its hospitality and sports culture to foreign athletes.
The World Police and Fire Games is an Olympic-style competition for law enforcement, firefighters, and officers from corrections, probation, border protection, immigration, and customs offices worldwide.
The biennial event features over 60 sports as official games.
"Do you know which is the biggest sporting event other than the Olympics? The answer is - 'World Police and Fire Games'... a sports tournament between policemen, firefighters, and security personnel from all over the world. This time, the tournament was held in America, and India created history in it. India won close to 600 medals. We reached the top three out of 71 countries. The hard work of those uniformed personnel who stand for the country day and night, paid off.
These friends of ours are now holding the flag high in the sports field as well. I congratulate all the players and the coaching team," Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will likely speak during the special debate on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha on July 29, according to multiple reports. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh began the special discussion on 'Operation Sindoor', India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, in Lok Sabha on Monday. The debate is expected to continue till midnight on Monday and resume on Tuesday at 11 AM. A report in NDTV said that PM Modi will speak on Tuesday evening, a report in Times Now said he would speak between 5 PM and 6 PM on Tuesday. A report in News18 said that PM Modi will speak at 7 PM. All reports were attributed to sources even as official word from the government on this is awaited.. Twenty-six civilians were killed in the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, after which India retaliated through precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Earlier on Monday, Congress said Home Minister Amit Shah must take responsibility for the "security lapses" that allowed the Pahalgam terror attack, while asking the Centre to clarify how many Indian jets were downed during Operation Sindoor and "before whom did Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrender" to halt the military action against Pakistan. Congress's deputy leader in the House, Gaurav Gogoi, said that according to the government, its intention was not to occupy territory. Speaking in Scotland on Monday during a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said he would no longer wait the full 50 days he had initially offered Putin earlier this month. "I'm disappointed in President Putin, very disappointed in him," Trump said, as quoted by news agency AFP, adding, 'We're going to reduce that 50 days to something like 10 or 12. I think I already know what's going to happen.' Ukraine praised Trump for saying he would cut the 50-day deadline. "Thanks to President Trump for standing firm and delivering a clear message of peace through strength," Ukrainian presidential aide Andriy Yermak said on social media, adding, "When America leads with strength, others think twice." Trump had originally warned Putin of severe economic penalties if the conflict wasn't halted by early September. These included 100 percent secondary tariffs on Russia and its trading partners, a move that would force any country continuing trade with Moscow to pay a steep price to sell goods in the US. This could affect nations like India and China, which still maintain trade relations with Russia. Trump told reporters at Turnberry that the decision to shorten the timeline was made because ceasefire hopes had repeatedly collapsed. 'We thought we had that settled numerous times,' he said, 'and then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever — you have bodies lying all over the street.' The US President has in recent weeks begun expressing unusually harsh criticism of Putin. 'There's a bit of an issue with him,' he remarked, as per Politico. Although Trump has had several discussions with the Russian leader, even claiming they came close to ceasefire terms five times, little concrete progress has been made. Trump also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating that a ceasefire there was 'possible' and urging international partners to share the responsibility. He criticised Hamas for reportedly stealing aid and added, 'It's not a US problem. It's an international problem.'

6-Year-Old Killed, Teacher Injured After Slab Holding School Gate Collapses In Rajasthan
Jaipur: A six-year-old student was killed and a teacher injured when a pillar of the main gate of a government school building collapsed in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district on Monday, just days after a portion of a state-run school caved in leaving seven children dead in Jhalawar district. Officials said the incident occurred in a government school building in the Ramgarh area when the students were leaving for their homes. "One child has died in the incident," Superintendent of Police (Jaisalmer) Abhishek Shivhare told PTI. Another official said that a pillar of the main gate collapsed and the student, Arbaz Khan, died on the spot. A teacher, Ashok Kumar Soni, was injured and admitted to the district hospital. Angry family members of the victim sat on a dharna outside the school with the body of the child. "Talks with the family members are going on," the official said. He said that prima facie, the portion collapsed due to heavy winds. Reacting to the incident, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the chief minister should take immediate steps so that no other child loses their life in such incidents. "The death of an innocent student due to the collapse of the school gate in Jaisalmer is very sad. After the Jhalawar tragedy, the death of a student in this manner should be a matter of concern for the state government," the Congress leader said. "It is the rainy season. I request the chief minister to take immediate steps so that no other innocent child loses their life. The state government had on Sunday announced a series of urgent measures, including closure and demolition of unsafe school buildings, GIS-mapping of all vulnerable structures, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor structural safety. School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar, who chaired an emergency meeting with senior officials from both the departments, had said a proposal of Rs 150 crore under the disaster management fund has been prepared for repair works in 7,500 schools across 170 tehsils, officials said. The move came amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of school infrastructure, especially during the monsoon season in southeastern Rajasthan. Dilawar had said a statewide survey is being conducted by the district collectors to identify the dilapidated school buildings.
