6-Year-Old Killed, Teacher Injured After Slab Holding School Gate Collapses In Rajasthan
A six-year-old student was killed and a teacher injured when a pillar of the main gate of a government school building collapsed in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district on Monday, just days after a portion of a state-run school caved in leaving seven children dead in Jhalawar district.
Officials said the incident occurred in a government school building in the Ramgarh area when the students were leaving for their homes.
"One child has died in the incident," Superintendent of Police (Jaisalmer) Abhishek Shivhare told PTI.
Another official said that a pillar of the main gate collapsed and the student, Arbaz Khan, died on the spot. A teacher, Ashok Kumar Soni, was injured and admitted to the district hospital.
Angry family members of the victim sat on a dharna outside the school with the body of the child. "Talks with the family members are going on," the official said.
He said that prima facie, the portion collapsed due to heavy winds.
Reacting to the incident, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the chief minister should take immediate steps so that no other child loses their life in such incidents.
"The death of an innocent student due to the collapse of the school gate in Jaisalmer is very sad. After the Jhalawar tragedy, the death of a student in this manner should be a matter of concern for the state government," the Congress leader said.
"It is the rainy season. I request the chief minister to take immediate steps so that no other innocent child loses their life. I have deep condolences for the bereaved family," he posted on X.

The incident came three days after a portion of the Piplodi Government School in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district collapsed, leaving seven children dead and 28 injured.
The state government had on Sunday announced a series of urgent measures, including closure and demolition of unsafe school buildings, GIS-mapping of all vulnerable structures, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor structural safety.
School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar, who chaired an emergency meeting with senior officials from both the departments, had said a proposal of Rs 150 crore under the disaster management fund has been prepared for repair works in 7,500 schools across 170 tehsils, officials said.
The move came amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of school infrastructure, especially during the monsoon season in southeastern Rajasthan.
Dilawar had said a statewide survey is being conducted by the district collectors to identify the dilapidated school buildings.

In a remark that drew strong reactions, Adoor said, 'Don't give funds just because someone is a woman,' though he added that several talented women filmmakers are now emerging. He criticised the current approach of allocating funds, arguing that public money collected through taxes should not be distributed arbitrarily. 'Many people believe that just by applying, they are entitled to receive money to make a film. That's a wrong notion,' he said. Several filmmakers, including Dr Biju, objected to his remarks during the session and attempted to respond, but Adoor continued his address uninterrupted. He also took a swipe at the recent protests at the K.R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts, claiming that the agitation was aimed at undermining attempts to restore discipline at the institute. According to him, the protests ultimately contributed to the institution's decline. Adoor concluded by reiterating that government funding should not be directed towards commercial ventures but should promote quality cinema. His remarks have sparked backlash from sections of the film industry and civil society, with many criticising the tone and timing of his statements at a conclave aimed at shaping inclusive film policy.

ED arrests Odisha-based firm's MD
Bhubaneswar: Following day-long multi-city searches, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the Managing Director (MD) of an Odisha-based company in connection with a fake bank guarantee scam, an official said on Saturday. Partha Sarathi Biswal, Managing Director of M/s Biswal Tradelink Private Limited (BTPL), was arrested on Friday after searches in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata at locations linked to the Odisha-based company, said an official statement. After the arrest, Biswal was sent to ED custody. As per the ED, the Central agency recorded an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) and initiated investigation into the fake bank guarantee scam on the basis of a case registered by Delhi's Economic Offences Wing (EOW), on November 11, 2024. The case was registered against BTPL, its directors and others, for providing fake bank guarantee, which was submitted to Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). Investigation by the ED revealed that BTPL fraudulently arranged and submitted fake bank guarantees of Rs 68.2 crore along with forged SBI endorsements and fabricated confirmations for an SECI tender. For providing this bank guarantee, Rs 5.40 crore was received by BTPL from Reliance Power, the ED statement said. Evidence confirms the use of fake documents in the name of certain banks and fake email IDs in the name of SBI, the probe agency said. The probe reveals BTPL, a small company incorporated in 2019, maintained multiple undisclosed bank accounts and carried out transactions disproportionate to its declared turnover. 'Many violations of the Companies Act are found. No statutory records are found at registered address -- such as books of accounts, shareholders' registers. Dummy directors are found to be used just to sign the documents,' the ED statement said. At least seven undisclosed bank accounts of the company were found and proceeds of crime of crores of rupees have been traced to these accounts. Sources said the Central agency, during investigations, found that the company, its directors and associates were engaged in the issuance of fake bank guarantees against a commission of 8 per cent.

The court also advised the Congress leader to use appropriate parliamentary platforms for such statements. 'You are Leader of Opposition; say things in Parliament, not on social media,' the bench told the leader.
