Mahmoud El Khatib Makes Surprise Cameo in Netflix's "Catalog" Series

Yara Sameh
Egyptian football legend Mahmoud El Khatib, president of Cairo giants Al Ahly, has delighted fans with his surprise cameo in Netflix original series "Catalog".
This is El Khatib's second venture in the acting scene.
He made his acting debut in the 1982 film "Gharib fi Bayti," starring Soad Hosny and Nour El-Sherif.
El Khatib's participation in the series, which debuted Friday on the giant streamer, was at the special request of his close friend, the late veteran actor Nabil El Halfawy, with whom he had a long-standing friendship.
Before his death, El Halfawy had asked Al-Ahly legend to support his son, director Waleed El Halfawy, who was at the time preparing to film the series.
The football legend complied with his friend's request, appearing in a touching scene in which he delivers a message about the primary role the father plays in supporting their children, and the importance of a father being a true supporter who instills values and principles in them.
Penned by Ayman Wattar, "Catalog" is set in Cairo and follows Youssef (Mohamed Farrag), a father of two reeling from the sudden loss of his wife, Amina (Riham Abdel Ghafour).
However, Youssef finds a lifeline in the most unexpected place: a series of parenting videos his late wife recorded before her death.
Each video becomes more than just a guide to a different life — they're breadcrumbs and a lifeline leading Youssef back to his children, himself, and to a version of fatherhood he never imagined he had.
The series' official logline reads:" After the loss of his wife, Youssef, a devoted father, navigates the ups and downs of parenthood while carrying the weight of grief."
The cast also includes Samah Anwar, Tara Emad, Ali El Beialy, Retal Abd El Aziz, Donia Sami, Sedky Sakhr, Dina Samy, Khaled Kamal, Bayoumi Fouad, and more.
"Catalog" combines emotional rawness with gentle humor, exploring not only the grief but also the process of rebuilding.
The drama marks Abdel Ghafour and Farag's second collaboration after the series adaptation of 'Room 207'.

Ragheb Alama banned from performing in Egypt after concert kiss

The Musicians Syndicate in Egypt issued a statement announcing the suspension of artist Ragheb Alama from performing in Egypt and his summons for investigation following his recent behavior during one of his concerts at the North Coast. The head of the Musicians Syndicate, Mostafa Kamel, said in a statement: 'For two days, I have been following shameful behavior that violates all Egyptian customs, traditions, and societal values. We have never been accustomed to this in our country before, and we will not allow it to be repeated. Egypt's stages have been graced by some of the greatest artists in Egypt and the Arab world, both artistically and in value. They have never been, and never will be, a breeding ground for kisses, undisciplined gestures, and disgusting hugs.' He added: 'With my sincere respect and appreciation to Mr. Farid Bou Said, the head of the Musicians Syndicate in our sister country, Lebanon, and to all our brothers and sisters in the beloved Lebanese people, we have decided the following': Summon Alama to the headquarters of the Musicians Syndicate in Egypt for investigation into his deliberate violation of Egyptian norms, customs, and traditions. We will also suspend his work permit in Egypt pending his appearance for investigation at the Syndicate's headquarters. Contact the officials of the Chamber of Tourism Establishments to meet with them or their representatives to make our joint decision to summon the owner of the tourist establishment that hosted this concert, which represents a clear and deliberate violation of all Egyptian values, norms, customs, and traditions. Alama commented on the decision to suspend him over what happened during his recent concert, after a video surfaced showing a fan kissing him on stage. The singer said in a phone call with Al-Nahar TV: 'I was talking to my friend, artist Mostafa Kamel, the head of the Musicians Syndicate, and I explained the situation to him. What happened was that the girl grabbed me in her joy as I was coming off the stage and kissed me. The kiss wasn't on my mouth. I swear to God, that didn't happen.' He affirmed his complete respect for the Egyptian audience and people, adding, 'I hold the organizers responsible because people were going to the theater. I respect the audience and I am well aware that tourism in Egypt is a great responsibility.' 'I contacted the head of the syndicate and I respect the syndicate's decision and place myself at its disposal. God willing, I will visit the syndicate next week.'

"Predator: Badlands" Unveils Trailer

Yara Sameh 20th Century Studios has dropped the official trailer for 'Predator: Badlands,' the sixth installment in the beloved action sci-fi franchise. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the new Predator movie follows Dek, a young Predator outcast played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, as he hunts for big game on an alien planet with the help of Elle Fanning's character, Thia, an android built by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation from the Alien franchise. Trachtenberg previously directed 'Prey,' the last installment in the 'Predator' film series. 'Prey' was released exclusively on Hulu and went on to score four nominations at the 2024 Emmys. It would take home the win for outstanding sound editing. The filmmaker's other directorial bouts include films like '10 Cloverfield Lane,' and shows such as 'The Lost Symbol,' 'The Boys,' 'Black Mirror,' and 'BlackBoxTV.' Fanning recently starred as Russian monarch Cathrine the Great in three seasons of Hulu's 'The Great' and starred opposite Timothée Chalamet as Sylvie Russo in James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic 'A Complete Unknown.' Some of her former credits include 'Super 8,' 'Maleficent,' 'Trumbo,' 'The Boxtrolls,' 'The Neon Demon' and 'B'Twixt Now and Sunrise.' The original 'Predator,' directed by John McTiernan and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers, was released in 1987. The film was produced for $15 million ($41 million after inflation) and grossed just under $100 million (about $300 million after inflation) at the global box office. Other films in the 'Predator' franchise include 1990's 'Predator 2,' 2010's 'Predators' and 2018's 'The Predator.' The famous extraterrestrial monster has also gone toe-to-toe with a xenomorph from the 'Alien' franchise twice. Hulu recently released animated feature-length project, "Predator: Killer of Killers". Trachtenberg serves as director and reunites as co-writer with 'Prey' screenwriter Patrick Aison. Brent O'Connor serves as producer while Richard Cowen co-produces. 'Predator: Badlands' hits theaters on November 7.
