Central Ohio eighth grader is a top contender in the National Spelling Bee
Avinav Prem Anand will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week, his fourth consecutive go. Anand attends Orange Middle School and won the Columbus Blue Jackets Regional Spelling Bee at Nationwide Arena in March.
Anand will be one of 243 spellers across the country and is considered a top contender this year. He tied for 32nd place in 2022, tied for 74th in 2023 and tied for 22nd place in last year's event.
Program gives Ohioans a second chance and keeps roads clean
Anand said when he's not acting as a spelling whiz, his hobbies include martial arts, cycling and baking. At 14, he will be among the oldest spellers and this will mark his final year of eligibility. He said his favorite animal is the cardinal, Ohio's state bird.
Anand is one of 15 competitors from Ohio, including a 10-year-old speller from Athens County. Competitors can be as young as 8, but there is only one speller in the youngest age group this year, a second grader from Texas. There is also only one 9-year-old competing, Ohioan Aadhya Adhikari from Marietta.
Preliminaries begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, with the quarterfinals and semifinals taking place Wednesday and spellers battling in the finals Thursday evening. This year is an extra-special event, marking the 100th anniversary of the National Spelling Bee.

Cowboys once again top NFL team valuations, with a record $12.8 billion
There are plenty of reasons to mock the Dallas Cowboys these days, but poverty definitely isn't one of them. In the latest round of Sportico's NFL team valuations, the Cowboys once again held onto their crown as the most valuable team in the most valuable league in the world with a record valuation of $12.8 billion, a 24% increase from last year. Team owner Jerry Jones, who revealed a lengthy cancer battle earlier Wednesday, purchased the team for $140 million in 1989, so the new valuation represents a 9043% increase from the original price. This comes a year after Dallas became the first team to crack the $10 billion club, where the Los Angeles Rams ($10.43 billion) and New York Giants ($10.25 billion) have since joined. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] As a whole, the NFL continued to see skyrocketing values with an average of $7.13 billion, up 20% from a year ago. Meanwhile, the average NBA team was valued at $4.6 billion, the average MLB team at $2.82 billion and the average NHL team at $1.79 billion. The league's least valuable team: the Cincinnati Bengals, at $5.5 billion. NFL's 5 most valuable teams, per Sportico 1. Dallas Cowboys, $12.8 billion2. Los Angeles Rams, $10.43 billion3. New York Giants, $10.25 billion4. New England Patriots, $8.76 billion5. San Francisco 49ers, $8.6 billion While the Cowboys are doing pretty well in the business department, the football department remains a different story, as ever. The team still hasn't reached an NFC championship game since its last Super Bowl title in 1995, by far longest drought in the NFC. The next most recent team is the Chicago Bears in 2010. The Cowboys made the playoffs in three straight seasons from 2021 to 2023, but stumbled to a 7-10 record last year, which led to the ouster of head coach Mike McCarty. The team's previous offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was controversially promoted to replace him, and will be attempting to break through with a roster similar to last year's. Part of the reason the Cowboys are so valuable is they command attention from the football world at all times, for good or bad reasons. The past couple weeks perfectly exemplify that, from the release of the Netflix docuseries "America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys" to star pass-rusher Micah Parson's trade request. The latter has become the story of the preseason, with Jones regularly facing reporters with alternating optimism and pessimism. Jones has become an increasingly controversial figure among Cowboys fans as the team's Super Bowl titles recede further into the past and the fact he's now sitting on an 11-figure property isn't going to make those people any happier. A Super Bowl is really the only way to change that, and it can definitely be said the Cowboys won't lack for resources there.

Game 122: Red Sox at Astros, Buehler vs. Brown
The Red Sox are where I'd thought they'd be heading into the final game of this Astros series in Houston, with a win and a loss, but we lost the game I thought we'd win, and vice versa. Now we have to face Hunter Brown for the second time this season. Will the Sox continue their offensive tear they started last night and manage to win a game against Hunter Brown once more? Will Buehler be able to build off of his great start he had against the Padres? Or will the Astros get it together and hand us a series loss? Get ready to find out!
