Best known for her role as Leela in Anupamaa, actor Alpana Buch recently gave her fans a glimpse of her soulful Mumbai abode.
Alpana Buch, widely loved for her portrayal of Leela, Anupamaa's feisty and endearing mother-in-law in the hit show Anupamaa, has long been a familiar face on Indian television. But off-screen, she finds solace in a space that's as layered, warm, and expressive as her on-screen character.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the actor opened the doors of her thoughtfully curated apartment in Mumbai, which is a true reflection of her love for Indian heritage, art, and family.
A Home That Breathes Indian Artistry
From the moment you step in, Alpana's home feels less like a city apartment and more like a lovingly assembled cultural tapestry. At the entrance, a handcrafted nameplate, made using an authentic Maharashtrian khana saree, sets the tone. Beside it, a Gond-style painting made by her daughter instantly catches the eye.
Inside, every item tells a story. There's not a single showroom piece in sight. Instead, the decor is a blend of handwoven, hand-painted, and handmade. All pieces in Alpana's home have been sourced from skilled artisans across India or crafted by her family members.
Inside Alpana Buch's Living Room
The living room is grounded in earthy hues, thanks to its warm terracotta-colored walls. A television sits on the main wall, perched above a handcrafted jute console. Between two comfortable sofas rests a modest coffee table that invites intimate conversations.
But it's the details that truly sing: paper-cut artworks, tribal Warli paintings, a striking pattachitra-painted kettle, a vintage gramophone, and a paper vase. Cultural nods from Assam to Africa also make an appearance, reflecting the family's admiration for global folk traditions. The curtains, made from vibrant Khand fabric, filter in the light with a traditional charm.
The open kitchen stands out for its elegant simplicity. Adopting a monochrome palette, it strikes a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal. Compact cabinets line the space, neatly housing everyday essentials. A tall island counter with high stools doubles as a casual dining spot.
A Hallway Of Family And Time
A narrow corridor leading to the bedrooms serves as a nostalgic gallery wall. Framed photographs capture cherished family moments, making this passage not just a transition space but a moving tribute to togetherness.

The Bedrooms
The first bedroom belongs to Alpana's daughter and radiates creative energy. The room features a study nook, a spacious cupboard, and a bed, all framed against walls dotted with her daughter's paintings. The doorway bears a charming mix of souvenirs brought back from travels to Kerala and Himachal Pradesh.

Alpana's room exudes tranquillity. Anchored by a sturdy king-size bed and lined with classic furnishings, it's a restful retreat. But perhaps the most fascinating element is a vintage painting from Kashmir, estimated to be over three decades old, that adds both historical and emotional depth to the space.
Alpana's home is more than just a place to live: it's a personal museum, a creative playground, and a living embodiment of India's rich artisanal spirit. Every nook, from the curated corners to the memory-laden walls, speaks of intention, emotion, and a deep-rooted love for all things handmade and heartfelt.

‘Failure of Alia Bhatt's Jigra did not shock us,' says Karan Johar as recalls being ‘disappointed' by the film's fate at the box office

Despite opening to widely favourable reviews and eventually making it onto several distinguished 'best Indian/Bollywood movies of 2024' lists, director Vasan Bala's action thriller Jigra, featuring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina in the lead roles, ended up being a massive box-office bomb. Mounted on a reported budget of Rs 80 crore, the movie ended up making only Rs 56 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, delivering a heavy blow to the makers. Although disappointed by the outcome, producer Karan Johar, recently revealed that he does not regret making the movie. He went one step further and maintained that he was, in fact, 'proud of the film'. Describing Vasan's 'syntax' as individualistic and brilliant, Karan stated that he is one of the finest minds working in Bollywood now. 'Jigra had a certain syntax that was not quintessentially mainstream. We had realised that when we watched the movie. But we all believed in it together. None of us were not on the same page. We knew what we were going for. Yes, we were hoping against hope that it would find a wider audience… but we all understand it,' he shared during a chat with Suchin Mehrotra on his YouTube channel. Karan further expressed hope that the filmmaker would continue on the same path, creating films he truly believed in. 'Vasan's meta-referencing, quirks and style of absolutely breaking the grammar of filmmaking, such things may not always land, right? But should he stop making films like this because of that? No! He must always make films that he believes in,' he stated. Mentioning that he would love to collaborate with Vasan Bala again, Karan said he would gladly agree to produce another project helmed by the filmmaker, no questions asked, regardless of Jigra's outcome. He added, 'I really believe in him.' Karan continued, 'Yes, we were disappointed, dejected and sad. But we are all very proud of that film, even today. Even now, we have a group comprising Vasan, me and Alia. Vasan has a brilliant self-deprecating sense of humour. He will make fun of himself in the most unique way possible. We still send messages on that group. I do believe that a decade or two later, we will reference Jigra as something that broke ground, something that Alia, Vasan and the rest of us were so brave to do. 'I'm very proud of Jigra. There are films that I'm not proud of. This film may have failed at the box office, but to me and our studio, it's a success story. Yes, every film is flawed; we can discuss and analyse those flaws. But did it shock us when the film failed? No, we understood it, and we did discuss it. We were pragmatic enough to know that we could be in a hit-miss zone; that we may hit the bullseye or we might miss it. We were self-aware. So, its outcome did not come to us as a devastating shock to any of us,' he added.
