'Picky' couple with a long checklist for their dream house prove to be a challenge for Phil Spencer on Location, Location, Location as they complain about gardens and living rooms being 'too small'

Daily Mail14-05-2025

A couple with a long checklist of requirements for their dream home were branded 'picky' after appearing on Location, Location, Location with a long list of requirements on Wednesday night.
Teacher Rachel and military sergeant Leo went on the Channel 4 show as they wanted to find a house where they could put down their roots after years of living in various temporary posts.
The couple - who have been together for 12 years and have two children aged four and five - had a budget of £400,000 and tasked Phil Spencer with finding their forever home in north Wales.
However, it proved to be a challenge for the property expert.
Rachel and Leo said they wanted a detached four-bedroom house with a large garden, three bathrooms, a utility room, a garage and good access to a beach.
Phil appeared to look puzzled and deep in thought as he listened to their barrage of requests and even asked them what they needed to store in the garage.
'What are your priorities?' he said, to which Leo added that he also wanted to be closer to the children's grandparents, who live in Flintshire.
'For me, it has to feel right, it's the forever home isn't it? It's the dream really,' Rachel added.
But after rejecting properties that were within budget and met their exact requirements, they ended up going for a three-bedroom house that had two bathrooms.
The property, in Denbigh, was on the market for under the couple's budget, with an asking price of £385,000. However, after some bartering, they bought the home for £373,000.
Because the couple rejected properties that had the right amount of bedrooms, bathrooms, and space, they were branded 'picky' by an X user - who was shocked they didn't opt for one home that had its own bar built into the garage.
The viewer wrote: 'So picky - mate you have a pub in the garage ffs.'
Others were unimpressed with Phil's picks, with one X user adding: '£400k in Wales should get you Buckingham Palace, where's Phil looking?'
And another didn't think much of the property they eventually chose, saying: 'It looks like a Brookside house.'
However, some viewers were big fans of Rachel and Leo, with one writing: 'Love this couple in Wales.'
Phil started by showing the pair around the first property on offer in Buckley, is 40 minutes away from the nearest beach and a couple of miles from Rachel's mother.
The new build detached house was on the market at £325,000 and met their requirements of having four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a garage and a giant neighbouring field for their children to run around in.
But while Rachel seemed impressed with the downstairs, Leo said: 'To me, it just feels like a confined space.'
Phil then asked them to open the interior French doors, adding: 'You'll get a sense of actually how big it can be if you've got people around.'
Eager to convince the father-of-two, Phil then took the couple to see the garden where they admitted that it was 'bigger than they thought it would be'.
Phil spoke to the camera alone and said: 'They're not exactly jumping up and down with excitement but what I am pleased about is that they're being open, honest and realistic.'
Despite being £75,000 under the asking price and 'much bigger' than where they were currently living but they were not keen on the 'small' living room.
'What I'm taking away from this is that we have to increase the size of the living space,' Phil said before they both agreed.
The trio then went to look around a second property located in Carmel with picturesque views of the Welsh countryside and was just over five miles away from the beach and Rachel's family.
The four-bedroom detached house - selling for £399,950 - had an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, a utility room, office and a garage.
Phil described the property as a 'ten out of ten' and said during his voiceover: 'If the style and charm of this place doesn't wow them, I don't know what will.'
Leo's first impressions of the property were positive and he said: 'If there aren't many changes needed to the house then we will definitely use that top budget.'
However, their opinions quickly changed when they saw the rest of the house and said they disliked the 'small garden' and the fact that it didn't have an en-suite or a suitable garage that they could store items in.
Speaking about the outdoor space, Rachel said: 'I don't know whether it is a little bit smaller than we wanted.'
Yearning to please the duo, Phil said he had a surprise before presenting them with the garage, which had been converted into a bar.
'This is the Sergeant's Mess,' he joked before adding: 'Does it make up for the small garden?'
Rachel responded: 'For me, no. You're missing the garage which is the storage.'
The third house, located in Abergele, ticked all the couple's boxes on their wishlist and had four bedrooms, a utility, three bathrooms, a massive garden and was next to the sea, along with being close to Rachel's family.
Despite it being advertised as offers over £400,000, Phil was confident that he could get it for Leo and Rachel at their budget.
While everything seemed to be going well, Phil decided to throw another in the mix and showed them around a fourth house in Denbigh which is a 30-minute drive to the seaside.
However, while the third property seemed to be a shoo-in and had everything they were after, Leo and Rachel were much more keen on the fourth one which was on the market for £385,000.
But it only had three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a much smaller garden than the last home they viewed.
'I feel like I could cry. The only downside is that it doesn't have an en-suite,' Rachel said.
'This has got lots to offer with less expense. It's cosy,' Leo said.
Viewers took to X to share their thoughts on the couple, with one branding them 'picky' - however, another said they 'love' Rachel and Leo
The pair eventually decided to put in an offer for the final property - even though it did not meet their long list of expectations in comparison to others they had seen.
Phil recommended they offer £360,000 as a starting price, which was rejected by the buyer. They then upped it to £370,000 but the owner requested £373,000, which Rachel and Leo accepted.
The emotional mother-of-two cried tears of joy and said: 'The next adventure awaits, we've done it.'
A couple of weeks after the phone call, Rachel said their children were excited about the move and had started planning the themes of their new bedrooms.
'Even though we've made every house a home, there's going to be roots to where we are which is so nice,' she said.

People are only just learning what happens to items donated to clothes banks

Charity banks are bursting at the seams, according to a clothes reseller, who has urged the public to think twice when making donations in order to prevent wastage Have you ever spotted bags of donated goods piling up in front of charity clothes banks and wondered where they end up? One money-savvy Brit has shared an alarming revelation about what can happen when you have too much of a good thing. Taking to TikTok, Rachel shared the scene from her local Salvation Army donation station, where dozens of bags were seen piling up on the pavement due to the banks bursting at their seems. "This is what I saw today," she began in a video. "People didn't dump these - they donated - but with nowhere to left to put them, this is the result." ‌ Rachel, who sells her own pre-loved clothing via Vinted asked: "People came here with good intentions, but if the banks are full where do you expect it all to go? It really does break my heart to see this sort of thing happening all the time." She proceeded to answer her own question, meanwhile, detailing the process of what becomes of excess donations. Continuing her clip from inside a warehouse, Rachel reported: "Every day, warehouses like this sort through literal tonnes - and the volume isn't slowing down." ‌ So what happens next? Rachel claimed that globally, we are generating 92 million tonnes of waste per year - the equivalent of one truckload dumped every second. Rachel continued: "Fashion is responsible for up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions - more than flights and shipping combined. Here in the UK alone, we send around 350,000 tonnes of clothing to landfill every year." Concluding, she advised her followers to pause for a moment before making their next donations, and to consider the quality of the goods. "Is it clean, wearable, could someone actually use it?" she suggested. "Clothes banks are full - don't leave it outside. Wait, rethink, reuse - we don't need more waste, we just need change." In the final part of her video, Rachel illustrated how even the warehouses are full to bursting point too, with bags of clothes piling high in pens, shockingly refilled within an hour of being emptied. "Look how much these volunteers have to go through every single day," Rachel acknowledged. Shocked, one TikTok user penned in response: "Wow this is mind blowing statistics... and resellers still getting negative comments. Brilliant video Rachel. Thank you for sharing." A second person agreed: "It's absolutely mind-blowing the general public has no idea just HOW bad it is." ‌ A third individual depressingly revealed: "We have a clothing collection point in my estate outside of our little shop, to be honest I've never seen anyone empty it, but it must be full as yesterday there was numerous bags piled on top. It's been pouring with rain all night here so they will all be ruined now. Such a shame!" A fourth TikTok user exclaimed: "Take it back home try again another day, or take to a charity simple... don't just leave it there." Whilst a fifth said: "People leave stuff outside a local charity shop by me and they aren't allowed to accept it. I sometimes see people going through it but the next day it always gets collected by council for landfill." Backing up Rachel's stats, Waste Managed states: "Globally, the fashion industry produces around 92 million tonnes of textile waste annually. This contributes significantly to environmental pollution, with the industry responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions. "We consume 62 million tonnes of textiles per year. By 2030, this is expected to reach 102 million tonnes. The fashion industry accounts for 8.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions."

Box-office bomb set to hit streamers after major controversy and scandal

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video After behind-the-scenes clashes, public criticism, and tanking at the box office, the live-action Snow White is finally limping onto Disney Plus. It was meant to be the jewel in Disney's remake crown and modernise the beloved classic – but Snow White has been a poisoned apple from the start. While critics largely praised leading lady Rachel Zegler as 'enchanting', the scandal that surrounded the release overtook any positives about the film itself. Problems seemed to be coming from all angles, with Disney reportedly rolling back the scale of their London premiere in response to the backlash. When it hit cinemas in March, the box office clawed back $205.5million – impressive until you consider the budget was around $270million. If you loved the film the first time around or are morbidly curious about it after all the drama, Snow White will reach its final resting place on Disney Plus on June 11, 2025. With just 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, the remake may have even stopped the controversial live-action remake push from Disney (not in time to pull Lilo and Stitch, though). After the mixed response, Tangled has 'been put on pause', according to insiders speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. Moana, set for release on July 10, 2026, is still thought to be in the works as one of Disney's biggest animated hits of recent years. Disney was facing pushback from fans as its slate appeared to be overwhelmingly focused on these remakes, with some even boycotting. However, Snow White was hit was even more controversy than the others – until maybe the bizarre choices made for the recently released Lilo and Stitch. First came the complaints that Rachel, 24, was a 'woke' casting choice given her Colombian heritage, echoing similar (distasteful) sentiments voiced over Halle Bailey's Ariel. The West Side Story star may have proved those naysayers wrong but this was just the start of the problems. Game Of Thrones star Peter Dinklage then branded the studio 'backwards' for still making a 'story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together'. Peter, 55, has a common form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia and asked Disney to 'take a step back and look at what you're doing'. As well as dropping half the film's original title, director Marc Webb opted to portray the characters using CGI – which was pulled apart when the Seven Dwarfs were first unveiled in the movie's teaser trailer – after erroneous reports that Disney would be using diverse 'magical creatures' instead. Pro-wrestler Hornswoggle, 39, as well as other actors, said ultimately the decision was detrimental to their careers as the roles would have traditionally gone to seven actors with the condition. Then came the girl boss-ification of Snow White herself – a common move in all the live-action remakes but garnered extra heat for Rachel. Snow White was 'not going to be dreaming about true love' anymore and rather 'becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true'. Fans slammed Disney (and its leading lady) for the outdated feminism, which many felt turned its back on the core of who Snow White is in the original 1937 film. More Trending Finally, there was the boycott over the casting of Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress who has publicly advocated for Israel over the years. She has stated that 'killing innocent Palestinians is horrific', but mostly her public posts are about Israeli hostages, while Rachel was criticised for her support of Palestine. After an incredibly messy road to get here, Snow White's release was quickly forgotten in the wake of other remake missteps. Snow White will be available to watch on Disney Plus from June 11. Today's horoscope as Aquarius refuses to be bossed around

Today's horoscope for June 5 sees one star sign deal with romantic boredom, while another reclaims control It's Thursday, June 5, and one star sign deals with financial stress, as another struggles with a colleague. There are 12 zodiac signs - Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces - and the horoscopes for each can give you the lowdown on what your future holds, be it in work, your love life, your friends and family or more. ‌ These daily forecasts have been compiled by astrologer Russell Grant, who has been reading star signs for over 50 years. From Aries through to Pisces, here's what today could bring for your horoscope - and what you can do to be prepared. ‌ Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20) You've always had a strong will. You have some important plans for the months ahead and you feel so strongly about them that you won't let doubters stand in your way. This level of persistence will help you transform a wobbly project into a more solid success. Taurus (Apr 21 - May 21) You know someone you see regularly is wondering why you aren't able to meet up as often. They don't understand you have private matters to deal with and once you get back on track with these, you will be more than happy to spend time with them, again. Gemini (May 22 - June 21) If a partner or colleague has been dragging their feet and refusing to commit to your ideas, you will take this as a sign they aren't interested in getting involved. You won't let this stop you because you have faith in your ideas and there are others around you who are ready to take their place. Cancer (June 22 - July 23) Tension in the family will be short-lived. A housemate is struggling with financial issues and helping them develop a budget could ease their stress about money. Additionally, you're unsure about your position in a new relationship. Someone shares a secret about their past and this causes conflicting emotions. Leo (July 24 - Aug 23) You could find yourself complaining when things go wrong without considering the reason why everything has been turned upside down. It will be events beyond other people's control that have caused these frustrations and someone could do with your support. ‌ Virgo (Aug 24 - Sept 23) Life is getting complicated. Relationships that were once easy-going and straightforward now seem complex and confusing. You might be questioning whether you should continue in some areas. Remember, you aren't obligated to stay in a situation that doesn't feel right for you. Libra (Sept 24 - Oct 23) You aren't getting on very well with someone you are working with either professionally or in a voluntary capacity. Tension between you is affecting your health. Although you won't walk away from your commitments, you might come up with an excuse to work independently. Scorpio (Oct 24 - Nov 22) When you look back on the recent past it might feel as if some matters relating to your life have been planned and determined by others. You realise now who has been pulling the strings and you are ready to reclaim control and steer your own course. ‌ Sagittarius (Nov 23 - Dec 21) An event you were excited about ends up as a big disappointment. Arrangements were hurried and the organisers were just eager to get it over with. You could have done a better job and you're more than willing to take the lead if something similar is planned for the future. Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 20) A loving relationship has got into a rut. If romance has lost its sparkle, suggest an exciting project you could set up and carry out together. Be creative. Let your imagination flow and this could turn out to be a lot of fun for you both. Aquarius (Jan 21 - Feb 19) Recently, other people or circumstances have made you feel you had little control of your life. Your attitude is changing. You won't allow anyone to dictate your actions and you're starting to make your own choices. If you're on the mend from an illness, remember that each day brings you closer to feeling stronger. Pisces (Feb 20 - Mar 20) You have been going through a tough time, financially. You have been working hard for your money yet most of this is now going towards daily expenses and settling old debts. Changes are ahead for you. Money that is owed to you is on its way.
