AMERICA is sending the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier to the Middle East as the conflict between Israel and Iran escalates.
The hulking $4.5billion nuclear-powered supercarrier, nicknamed Old Salt, is the flagship of the deadly Carrier Strike Group 11.

The strike group includes Carrier Air Wing Seventeen and Destroyer Squadron Nine - a potent combination of military hardware that will strike fear into Iran.
The Nimitz left the South China Sea Monday morning heading west towards the Middle East, where it will be stationed.
The move comes amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran and question marks over whether the West will become embroiled in the conflict.
Donald Trump has warned Iran it would experience the "full force" of the US military if it attacked US interests.

And Sir Keir Starmer has sent more RAF jets to the Middle East, including Typhoons and air-to-air refuelers, as tensions mount.
The USS Nimitz will provide a major boost to US military presence in the region.
And The Sun knows first hand of the true might of this awesome 100,000 ton warship.
I spent two days on board the USS Nimitz during a training exercise.
The massive vessel is 1,092ft long and 252ft wide and consists of 117,000 sq ft.
The flight deck is four and a half acres and boasts four aircraft catapults to propel F/A-18 Super Hornets, EA-18G Growlers and F-35C stealth strike fighters into the sky.
Iran launches 3rd night of strikes as Netanyahu warns war could lead to 'regime change' in Tehran
Four giant elevators bring the aircraft from the hangar in the guts of the carrier.
I stood just feet away as F-35 Lightning II fighter jets were catapulted from the deck with an ear-splitting blast, before disappearing off the bow of the ship in a haze of steam.
The violent rumble of the jet engines shook my bones to the core.
A Seahawk helicopter circled nearby in case of any accidents.
The F-35C is designed for long-range stealth strike missions and is built explicitly for US Navy carrier operations.
The flight deck of the Nimitz was awash with dedicated crewmen wearing different coloured 'jerseys' whose job is to tow the aircraft into position before the pilots ready the jets for take off.
Green jerseys operate the jet blast deflectors (JBD), aircraft handlers wear yellow jerseys, blue jerseys work in the hanger bay and purple jerseys refuel the aircraft, while red jerseys handle aviation ordinance and crash and salvage.
The whole manic scene - described by those on board as a choreographed ballet - is watched over by white jerseys.

I stood behind a yellow jacket, also known as a shooter, one of several catapult officers responsible for the safe and efficient launch of the ship's aircraft.
She threw a shooting sign to tell the jet to take off.
'Stay behind me,' she screamed as we ducked under the afterburners of a Super Hornet.
'The heat from those engines will take your skin off.'
Beneath deck is a massive floating city where 5,000 US Navy personnel carry out their duties like worker bees in a hive.
Inside the ten floor, 3,000 room hull, life is one slick operation.
There are several cafeterias, gyms, a Starbucks coffee shop and 'luxury' state rooms for 'Distinguished Visitors'.
Since it is nuclear-powered, the Nimitz – call sign NMTZ - can operate for up to 20 years without refuelling.
Capable of reaching 30 knots (35mph) the ship is one of ten nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in the US Fleet.
I joined the ship off the coast of Baja California, Mexico, for a routine five-day training mission which saw the F-35C put through its paces.
The ship raised its two 60,000lb anchors and set sail from Naval Air Station North Island, in Coronado, San Diego.

Walking around the vast warship you're struck by the sheer number of young faces walking the narrow corridors and stairways - the backbone of the US Navy.
The average age of sailors on board is 25 and often you'll find a teenager fresh out of high school steering the warship out of port.
During my time onboard I was also taken up to the bridge, the heart of the ship's operation, where the Captain sat on a raised chair surrounded by his team of navigators, officers and the rest of the watch team charged with keeping the ship away from hazards.
The mission of many of the Nimitz sailors will be to take off and land dozens of fighter jets, helicopters and planes, sometimes within less than 60 seconds of each other.
The crew often work 12-hour shifts, six days a week.
The busy ship goes through around 500 cans of energy drink Monster a day purchased from the ship's store.
The Nimitz entered service in 1975 but has undergone dozens of refurbishments and upgrades since.
It is the lead ship of her class, one of the largest warships in the world, second only to the USS Gerald R Ford.
The Nimitz's homeport is Naval Base Kitsap in Washington and the vessel is named for legendary fleet admiral Chester W. Nimitz (1885–1966), who helped the US defeat the Japanese Navy in World War II.
Its deployment to the Middle East will likely be its last mission as it marks 50 years of service.
The ageing warship is set to be replaced by the Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) later this year.

Russians flee to shelter amid fears of 'imminent Ukraine nuclear strike'

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Bus passengers in Moscow were ordered to take cover in bomb shelters over warnings of a 'nuclear bombardment' from Ukraine. A video filmed in Russia's capital earlier today captured the moment an alert was broadcast over the bus intercom system. The announcement said: 'Attention, attention! Ukraine is threatening us with a nuclear bombardment. 'I repeat! Attention, attention! Ukraine is threatening us with a nuclear bombardment! 'Everyone to the shelters! Attention! Attention! Ukraine is threatening us with a nuclear bombardment!' But transport officials in Moscow say the alert was broadcast by hackers, who have not yet been identified. The video was filmed on board a 191 service to Grachevskaya station which is run by the Transavtoliz company, which operates hundreds of services. It's not yet known how many bus intercoms were hacked and played the fake warning. Authorities rushed to reassure passengers that they did not need to go to a bomb shelter, and that the threat was false. A Moscow transport spokesman said: 'Audio messages that did not correspond to reality were played in the buses. 'Currently, specialists are checking the network infrastructure and eliminating the consequences of unauthorised access.' Unlike Russia, Ukraine does not have any nuclear weapons, having given up its arsenal in the 1990s as part of the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances. The memorandum saw Ukraine give up its nuclear weapons in exchange for guarantees from Russia, the US and the UK to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and borders. It comes as US president Donald Trump prepares to meet with Russian president Vladimir Putin to discuss the ongoing war with Ukraine and try to negotiate an end to the conflict. More Trending They will not be meeting alongside Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, despite Trump's comments suggesting otherwise. Relations between the US and Russian presidents are fraught, with a Putin stooge warning Trump has made 'another step towards war with Russia' and Trump responding by moving US nuclear submarines. Ukraine stepped up its strikes against Russia this year, causing chaos at Moscow's airports and destroying warplanes. But with the death toll of both soldiers and civilians creeping higher, Mr Zelensky is still calling for a ceasefire in order to bring about a 'just peace'. Russia breaks through Ukrainian frontline as Putin sends 110,000 troops into the meatgrinder days before Trump summit

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) VLADIMIR Putin's forces have reportedly made a sudden breakthrough in Ukraine's front lines - just days before a showdown with Trump. Around 110,000 Russian troops reportedly made the surprise thrust near the coal mining town of Dobropillia - marking the most dramatic advancement this year. The move could even be designed as a bargaining chip - increasing pressure on Kyiv to give up land. Bloodthirsty Putin's forces have reportedly advanced by at least 10km north in two prongs in recent days, as part of their attempt to capture the entire Donetsk region. Russian forces surged towards three villages on a section of the frontline near Kostyantynivka and Pokrovsk, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. Ukraine's DeepState authority said: "The situation is quite chaotic, as the enemy, having found gaps in the defence, is infiltrating deeper, trying to quickly consolidate and accumulate forces for further advancement." Russian troops reportedly used small sabotage and infantry groups to carry out their advancement. Ukrainian authorities said additional units had arrived in the affected areas. Some of Putin's forces have reportedly already been eliminated or captured. It comes as Russia accused Britain of trying to sabotage the Ukraine peace talks set to be held between Trump and Putin. The Kremlin slammed the UK and accused it of trying to disrupt the crunch talks - after Sir Keir Starmer warned the Russian leader could not be "trusted". Nazi lies, Vlad's propaganda & troops on border… chilling signs Putin ready to invade ANOTHER European nation after Ukraine The Russian embassy in London said: "We note the ongoing attempts by London and some of its partners to disrupt a peace resolution of the conflict by eliminating its root causes. "This is clearly demonstrated by the statements and activity developed by the British leadership in the run-up to the Russian-American summit in Alaska." Sir Keir backed Trump's plans but urged to be more caution. The PM's official spokesman said: "Never trust President Putin as far as you could throw him, but we obviously will support Ukraine. "Any ceasefire cannot just be an opportunity for President Putin to go away, re-arm, restrengthen, and then go again." Trump said on August 8 that he hopes to hold a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. Washington and Moscow are said to be eyeing a deal to put an end to the bloody conflict in Ukraine - but it may not be all good news for Kyiv. Trump told reporters in The White House that Zelensky is "going to have to get ready to sign something" in order to bring peace to his nation. Top diplomats from the US and Russia and currently working on an agreement to finalise post-war territories, senior officials told Bloomberg. Zelensky's invite to the peace talks is still being weighed up by the White House and it is currently unclear if he will attend or not. Sources said Trump's team is trying to get Ukraine and its European allies on board to get a peace deal that would see Kyiv make some concessions. One major sticking point for Moscow is the annexation of Ukrainian territory - one of Putin's long-term demands. Zelensky has been adamant that Ukraine will not accept any further annexation of its land. Although he suggested Russia could be allowed to retain some of the land it has taken. Moscow is likely to demand that Ukraine cede its entire eastern Donbas area to Russia, as well as Crimea - which Moscow annexed in 2014. This means Ukrainian troops will need to withdraw from the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk - the regions still being held by Kyiv. In return, Moscow would stop its offensive in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine along the current battlelines, according to the officials. Kyiv risks being presented with a take-it-or-leave-it offer during the high-stakes meeting. Zelensky has told European leaders they must reject any settlement proposals by the US that demand Ukraine give up further land. Trump announced on Friday that the only way to resolve the issues is for both sides to accept losses of land. He said: "It's complicated, actually. Nothing is easy. It's very complicated. "We're going to get some switched. There'll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both." The MAGA prez said he would try to return territory to Ukraine. Don added: "Russia has occupied a big portion of Ukraine. They've occupied some very prime territory. "We're going to try and get some of that territory back for Ukraine." Putin, who has consistently rejected calls for a ceasefire, said that he wants peace but that his demands for ending his invasion were "unchanged". More to follow... Horror moment immigration cops handcuff disabled boy sitting in car with his nan

Gut wrenching images show the moment US immigration officers armed with guns handcuff a disabled teenager outside a school as Trump's ICE officers continue their rampage Horrifying video captures the moment armed American Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers detained a 15-year-old disabled student who was sitting in a parked car with his grandma over a case of 'mistaken identity'. ‌ Immigration officers approached the car with drawn guns at the disabled teenager who was waiting to take part in a school orientation at Arleta High School in Los Angeles at 9.30am on Monday - just days after schools in LA went back to class after summer break. ‌ The special needs boy was waiting in the car with his elderly grandmother, waiting for his family member to return from registering for classes. It comes as Donald Trump recently reignited his feud with Sadiq Khan in front of Keir Starmer, with a savage jibe at the London Mayor. ‌ ‌ Insisting they were not from ICE, the officers began surrounding the vehicle before getting the innocent teenager into handcuffs. Despite their insistence, video footage reviewed by the district claims to show both police and border patrol officers at the scene. The moment of madness finally came to an end when staff from the school, along with an LA police officer, intervened. Speaking at a news conference, superintendent Alberto Carvalho stressed how serious the incident had been. He said: 'The release will not release him from what he experienced. 'The trauma will linger. It will not cease. It is unacceptable, not only in our community, but anywhere in America. As our students return to school, we are calling on every community partner to help ensure that classrooms remain places of learning and belonging, ‌ 'Children have been through enough - from the pandemic to natural disasters. They should not have to carry the added weight of fear when walking through their school gates.' After the incident, parents of non-white children in the school district are understandably concerned - with worries that ICE are targeting people regardless of their actual immigration status. ‌ Speaking to KTLA, one worried local parent, Yvonne, said: 'He fits that category. Where he's on the darker side, and I feel like that's who they're attacking… that's the main reason I tell him you better be careful and you don't go with anybody. We shouldn't be going through this.' After the incident, local mayor Karen Bass held a press conference with a pretty damning tone. She said: 'We are gathered here today to talk about protecting our children from the federal government. This is a profound moment… the fact that we even need a press conference to talk about strategies for how we protect our kids.' A LA school district board member agreed that mind-blowing scenes of 'violently detaining a child' are 'absolutely reprehensible and should have no place in our country,'. The frightening scenes come as a result of Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill', which granted $170 billion to ICE and is rumoured to have set the department's quotas of 1,200 to 1,500 arrests every single day. Because of their outlandish tactics, LA schools have rerouted bus stops, sent 1,000 office staff to assist in school zones and even offered online learning for those fearing arrest if they go to school. Deployed 1,000 central office staff to assist in school zones and increased online learning options for those too scared to leave their houses.
