IMSA Laguna Seca results, points: Porsche Penske wins again but with the No. 6 963 this time
Porsche Penske Motorsport remained unbeaten in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship season but with a twist at Laguna Seca Raceway.
The No. 6 Porsche 963 earned its first Grand Touring Prototype victory this year as Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell beat teammates Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy in the No. 7 963 that had won the first three races.
It's the third consecutive 1-2 finish for Porsche Penske Motorsport.
The No. 24 BMW, which started from the pole position for the fourth consecutive race, finished third despite going off course from contact with Tandy on the 124th and final lap of the Monterey SportsCar Championship.
The Porsche Penske Motorsport No. 6 rallied after dropping from second to fifth from early contact with a GT car. Jaminet was able to hold off a charging Tandy by 1.692 seconds on the famous 12-turn, 2.238-mile road course.

'It was a crazy race,' Jaminet told NBC Sports' Dave Burns. 'Obviously, we didn't have a perfect start with a small contact. I think a GT didn't see Matt on the inside. That was unfortunate. We lost some time there, dropped to fifth and then yeah it was pretty much flat out from start to finish after that.
'Trying to manage energy, tires, but at the same time really putting in qualifying laps. At the end, it was really tight, there was the sister car, the BMW behind, the traffic, the lapped cars. Not an easy one but the best of IMSA racing today.'
Through four of nine races, Nasr and Tandy maintain a 91-point lead on Jaminet and Campbell as the No. 7 team defends its 2024 GTP championship.
The winners in the GT categories were the No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R (GTD Pro) and No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 (GTD).
With drivers Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler, AO Racing won its third consecutive race (GTD Pro at Sebring and Laguna Seca, GTD at Long Beach) by beating the No. 81 DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3 and No. 3 Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.R.
In GTD, Philip Ellis and Russell Ward in the No. 57 Mercedes-AMG beat Jack Hawksworth and Parker Thompson in the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC F GT3. The . Conquest Racing No. 34 Ferrari 296 GT3 was third.
'Definitely a clean day,' Ellis told NBC Sports' Chris Wilner. 'An absolutely flawless day by the team, also by Russell in the first stint. I'll say the race was just as we needed it. I think especially against the Lexus. We had a long green stint, so I think they were stronger than us early in the stint, then we were better than them late out of the stint, so it was exactly what we needed to stay out of trouble. Amazing pit stops by the team. That's how you win the championship.'
In the GTD Pro standings, Heinrich and Blachler extended their points lead, and Ellis and Ward also built on their championship lead in GTD.

What to watch for in tonight's NASCAR Cup race at Nashville
LEBANON, Tenn. — The second half of the NASCAR Cup regular season begins with tonight's race at Nashville Superspeedway and there's much at stake for several drivers in the field. Here are a few things to keep an eye on in tonight's race (7:19 p.m. ET green flag on Prime): Taking advantage of the pole … Chase Briscoe gets another chance to take advantage of winning the pole. While he finished third in last weekend's Coca-Cola 600 after starting on the pole, he led only one lap, did not score points in the first two stages and ended with only two points in the third stage. Briscoe was undone by a pit road penalty for an uncontrolled tire on his first stop. That shows how a problem even early in a 600-mile race can have an impact throughout the event. Tonight's race at Nashville is 399 miles. 'It's frustrating,' Briscoe told NBC Sports about last weekend's performance. 'It really just comes down to kind of how our season's been all year. We just haven't been able to put, at first a full day together, especially a full weekend. Last weekend, we talked about it all week, if we qualify well, we should be able to really maximize our stage points.' Instead, he didn't score as many as a pole-sitter would be expected to do so. Briscoe ranks last among drivers in a playoff spot in stage points scored this year with 18. Eight drivers outside a playoff spot have scored more stage points than Briscoe this season. Dustin Long, Bubba's bounce back? Bubba Wallace is succinct in describing his last few races: 'The last three weeks, four weeks, if you want to count All-Star, just (expletive).' Wallace has finished 33rd or worse in the last three points races, dropping him from seventh to 12th in the season standings. Last year, 14 of the 16 playoff drivers won in the regular season but this season the victories have been concentrated among a small group of drivers, which could mean more playoff spots will be determined by points. With Wallace falling in the standings, he could be getting close to that area. For all that, Wallace is keeping a better attitude. He admits in years past that he would focus too much on what has happened in the last few weeks and not what his team has done all season to still allow him to be 38 points above the cutline entering Nashville. 'You're going to have bad races,' Wallace said. 'I've seen so many guys have bad races, like Denny (Hamlin), right, have so many bad races. His stats the last three aren't that great either. Bad luck struck at Charlotte. They show up the next week like 'What happened last week?' They don't care. 'And so I've started to kind of look at that and as much as it sucks, as much as it weighs you down, you have to show up for your team and for your sponsors and enjoy it.' It also helps that Wallace will start 12th and have a chance to score points in the first stage. But another bad finish could drop him closer to the cutline. Deep in the pack Kyle Larson has an average finish of 4.5 at Nashville and is the only driver to place in the top 10 in all four Cup races at Nashville. He has work to do if he is to extend that streak. Larson qualified 28th — his worst starting spot since Phoenix in March 2019. How quickly can he get to the front? Will he score points in the first stage? Nate Ryan, Locked in … The top 32 drivers in points after tonight's race will be locked into the in-season tournament, which will begin later this month in Atlanta. Brad Keselowski enters tonight's race 32nd in points. Admittedly, Keselowski has other things to worry about — last week's fifth-place finish in the Coca-Cola 600 was his first top 10 of the year — but should Keselowski have another poor finish, the could be in jeopardy of not being a part of the tournament. The winner gets $1 million. Keselowski starts a season-best sixth tonight.

Toyota Says a New Supra is Already in the Works
The Toyota Supra is on its way out - again. Production of the fifth-generation GR Supra, co-developed with BMW and built in Austria alongside the Z4, is set to end by spring 2026. Toyota has already announced a Final Edition for the 2026 model year, signaling the end of this chapter, but the Supra nameplate isn't being retired. Not yet. In recent interviews with MotorTrend, Toyota executives confirmed that while the Supra will go on hiatus, it's expected to return. "It would be logical that we would have a next-gen Supra," said Cooper Ericksen, senior vice president of product planning and strategy for Toyota Motor North America. "But when and how is still TBD." What is clear is that the gap between Supra generations won't be as long as last time. Fans will recall the two-decade stretch between the legendary fourth-generation Supra and its modern GR-branded reboot in 2019. Ericksen insists that Toyota's goal is to shorten that downtime significantly, though he didn't offer a concrete timeline. Cost is a major factor. New global regulations, particularly around emissions and safety, are pushing automakers to either invest heavily in updates or start from scratch. For Toyota, refreshing the Supra isn't feasible without a full overhaul. "It needs to be a new house," Ericksen said. "When we can get the new house built is the question." Toyota hasn't officially greenlit a successor, but the intention is there. Whether the next Supra will be built in partnership, as the current one was with BMW, or like the GR86 with Subaru BRZ, remains undecided. David Christ, general manager of Toyota's U.S. division, said he'd love to be involved in planning a new Supra, but admitted the decision lies with Toyota's global leadership in Japan. There's also the issue of prioritization. Toyota is currently overhauling its core lineup, including the recently revealed 2026 RAV4, which debuts a new electric platform, multimedia suite, and safety tech. With more than 30 Toyota and Lexus models in the U.S. alone, the company's resources are stretched. It's hard to argue that the Supra has carved out a loyal niche. Since its return, Toyota has leaned hard into enthusiast models under its Gazoo Racing (GR) sub-brand - from the GR Corolla to the GR86 - and a next-gen Supra would only bolster that identity. "We'll just have to wait and see," Ericksen said. "My goal is to get a great next-gen product that our enthusiast crowd can fall in love with again." So yes, the Supra is leaving, but not for good.
