IMSA Laguna Seca results, points: Porsche Penske wins again but with the No. 6 963 this time

Porsche Penske Motorsport remained unbeaten in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship season but with a twist at Laguna Seca Raceway. The No. 6 Porsche 963 earned its first Grand Touring Prototype victory this year as Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell beat teammates Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy in the No. 7 963 that had won the first three races. It's the third consecutive 1-2 finish for Porsche Penske Motorsport. The No. 24 BMW, which started from the pole position for the fourth consecutive race, finished third despite going off course from contact with Tandy on the 124th and final lap of the Monterey SportsCar Championship. The Porsche Penske Motorsport No. 6 rallied after dropping from second to fifth from early contact with a GT car. Jaminet was able to hold off a charging Tandy by 1.692 seconds on the famous 12-turn, 2.238-mile road course. IMSA LAGUNA SECA MONTEREY GP RESULTS: Click here for overall l By class 'It was a crazy race,' Jaminet told NBC Sports' Dave Burns. 'Obviously, we didn't have a perfect start with a small contact. I think a GT didn't see Matt on the inside. That was unfortunate. We lost some time there, dropped to fifth and then yeah it was pretty much flat out from start to finish after that. 'Trying to manage energy, tires, but at the same time really putting in qualifying laps. At the end, it was really tight, there was the sister car, the BMW behind, the traffic, the lapped cars. Not an easy one but the best of IMSA racing today.' Through four of nine races, Nasr and Tandy maintain a 91-point lead on Jaminet and Campbell as the No. 7 team defends its 2024 GTP championship. The winners in the GT categories were the No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R (GTD Pro) and No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 (GTD). With drivers Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler, AO Racing won its third consecutive race (GTD Pro at Sebring and Laguna Seca, GTD at Long Beach) by beating the No. 81 DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3 and No. 3 Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.R. In GTD, Philip Ellis and Russell Ward in the No. 57 Mercedes-AMG beat Jack Hawksworth and Parker Thompson in the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC F GT3. The . Conquest Racing No. 34 Ferrari 296 GT3 was third. 'Definitely a clean day,' Ellis told NBC Sports' Chris Wilner. 'An absolutely flawless day by the team, also by Russell in the first stint. I'll say the race was just as we needed it. I think especially against the Lexus. We had a long green stint, so I think they were stronger than us early in the stint, then we were better than them late out of the stint, so it was exactly what we needed to stay out of trouble. Amazing pit stops by the team. That's how you win the championship.' In the GTD Pro standings, Heinrich and Blachler extended their points lead, and Ellis and Ward also built on their championship lead in GTD. Toulouse thrash Castres as Top 14 pursuers stumble

Second-placed Bordeaux-Begles lost 21-10 at home to La Rochelle while third-placed Toulon fell at bottom club Vannes. The only black spot for Toulouse was a knee injury to Scotland full-back Blair Kinghorn, the front runner for the number 15 shirt for the British and Irish Lions' summer tour of Australia. Elsewhere two more star backs, Scot Stuart Hogg, who plays for Montpellier, and France's Melvyn Jaminet of Toulon, suffered severe injuries. Toulouse, who play Bordeaux-Begles in the Champions Cup semi-finals next week, scored seven tries against Castres in an emphatic display. Dimitri Delibes, Malachi Hawkes, Simon Daroque, Alexandre Roumat, Julien Marchand, Pierre-Louis Barassi and Mathis Castro Ferreira all crossed the whitewash for the home side, Thomas Ramos kicking all the conversions and a penalty for a personal haul of 17 points. Castres' sole contribution was two penalties by Georgian fly-half Luka Matkava in his debut for the club. "I think we put in a decent performance," said Toulouse captain Anthony Jelonch, whose team visit Bordeaux next weekend for a European semi-final. In the Top 14 standings, Toulouse pulled 10 points clear of Bordeaux-Begles and 12 clear of Toulon. Bordeaux-Begles lost 21-10 at home in a scrappy match to La Rochelle, who seem to have rediscovered their form and rose to just outside the playoff places. Jack Nowell, Paul Boudehent and Levani Botia scored tries as the visitors pulled 18-3 ahead after 53 minutes. Ugo Boniface replied for the hosts with 16 minutes to play, but the visiting defence survived the final battering attacks. In Vannes, Jaminet kicked 14 points before he was carried off on a stretcher as Toulon lost 29-19 away to the basement club. "It was a game of life and death," said Theo Beziat, the hooker who scored an early try for the hosts. Jaminet was kneed in the head by Swan Rebbadj. The Toulon lock had an eventful afternoon, coming off the bench twice as a replacement and also collecting a yellow card before knocking out his team-mate. "I feel ashamed for all the fans who made the trip," said Pierre Mignoni, Toulon's director of rugby. "You can lose a game, but it's hard like this, and you have to admit that we weren't there." Vannes scrum-half Stephen Varney scored two tries as they collected a bonus point to close to within a point of Perpignan and Stade Francais at the foot of the table. Perpignan lost 19-13 at Montpellier where Hogg kicked 11 points for the hosts but suffered a suspected torn Achilles tendon. Montpellier coach Joan Caudullo said that Hogg's season was over. The 32-year-old Hogg, who was in January sentenced to supervision by a Scottish court after admitting he had abused his estranged wife, had already said he was unavailable for the Lions.

Toulon run 72 points past Saracens in chaotic 16-try Champions Cup classic

Amid all the chaos, the 16 tries, the 114 points and the sizeable scare that an understrength Saracens side gave Toulon, one certainty remained. French power will always prove decisive and as much as you must give credit to Saracens for the manner in which they forced the response from the hosts, there was an inevitability to the outcome here once Toulon gathered themselves to complete a 72-42 victory. Would Saracens' England quintet of Maro Itoje, Jamie George, Elliot Daly, Tom Willis and Ben Earl made a difference? Would the visitors have been able to hang on? We will never know but given the inexperience of Saracens' bench, perhaps we can say with some certainty that Toulon would not have hit 70 had they been in the side. Saracens caught Toulon cold and led by 22 points late in the first half but the home side scored 59 more thereafter and the visitors only seven. Facundo Isa and Melvyn Jaminet both ended but with hat-tricks and long before full-time you just wanted Saracens to be put out of their misery. It was all a far cry from this fixture nine years ago, when Saracens came here as defending champions and ended Toulon's unbeaten home run in the competition on the way to successfully defending their crown. England's European challenge may come again one day but it will not be today. The first 32 minutes could hardly have gone better for Saracens. Granted, Toulon's implosion registered high on the Richter scale but the manner in which Saracens seized upon them was to be reminded of the visitors in their heyday. Theo Dan was the first half's standout performer but Hugh Tizard and Juan Martín González were not far behind. Saracens were swarming, pouncing on errors and by the 32nd minute they had five tries to show for their efforts. The first came from a dangerous long pass from Jaminet, five metres from his own line and when Isa knocked the ball on, his fellow Argentinian González grabbed the loose ball and dotted down. Toulon's response was immediate, Jaminet atoning for his error by making the initial break and releasing Jiuta Wainiqolo to speed down the left. Saracens were unbowed, however, and Nick Tompkins was over for their second after Dan made the initial break. Two Jaminet penalties brought Toulon to within a point but could exert no control on proceedings. The 23-year-old centre Olly Hartley demonstrated why he is so highly rated by beating Jérémy Sinzelle and Ben White to score under the posts after receiving the ball near halfway and after another mistake by Jaminet, who failed to ground the loose ball near his own line, González had his second. The smattering of visiting Saracens supporters were daring to dream when Ivan van Zyl scored his side's fifth try – brought about by another fine break by Dan who then produced an astonishing offload to his scrum-half. Toulon were shaken, rattled but their raucous supporters had not given up on them just yet. The manner in which they scored two tries before half-time – taking the total first-half points to 62 – was a considerable flex of the muscles with Isa and Jaminet both dotting down. It was an ominous finish to the half by the hosts, trimming the deficit to eight points. Five minutes into the second half it was just three with Brian Alainu'uese powering over, again after Toulon's hulking forwards battering away at the Saracens line. The introduction of Baptise Serin from the bench was another worrying sight for a flagging Saracens side and soon Isa was over again – Toulon's dominance at the scrum paying dividends – to complete a remarkable comeback. Jaminet's hat-trick score extinguished those hopes before Serin ran in try No 9 for Toulon after a delightful offload by Gabin Villière. Seta Tuicuvu completed the rout.

Rolex 24, Hour 15: Porsche and BMW battle over podium places, Dalziel takes Era to the top in LMP2

The race got underway again 10 minutes into the hour after the FCY called for the Inter Europol ORECA stopping and it was another frantic restart with Mathieu Jaminet leading the train across the line in the No. 6 Penske Porsche. BMW Team RLL's Raffaele Marciello immediately got on the gas and powered past Tom Blomqvist for second. The Swiss driver's time that high up the order wouldn't last though as the Briton fought back to reclaim the place a lap later. Marciello then fell back and Laurens Vanthoor in the sister No. 7 Porsche snuck by for third. The lead battle then came alive halfway through the hour, with Blomqvist utilising the traffic to his advantage in catching Jaminet. It was close on the banking multiple times between the two, but Jaminet successfully defended the place, allowing Vanthoor to catch up. The Belgian then put in a spirited effort and made a daring move stick around the outside into Turn 1 to make it a 1-2 for Porsche again. Meanwhile, in LMP2, it was all change up front when the green flags waved. Ryan Dalziel was on a mission for Era Motorsport and caught Malthe Jakobsen's Crowdstrike ORECA napping up the inside at Turn 1. Sebastien Bourdais in the No. 8 Tower example later followed in Dalziel's footsteps, also finding a way by the Dane, then past the Scotsman for the lead. There was a change at the top of the timing screens too in GTD, as Stevan McAleer went backwards in the No. 021 Triarsi 296 GT3. Casper Stevenson then briefly led for Heart of Racing before being tapped into a spin by Tom Sargent in the No. 120 Wright Porsche. Sargent then pitted to hand over the car to Adam Adelson. AWA's Marvin Kirchhöfer inherited the lead as a pit cycle began at the turn of the hour. Behind, Winward Racing's No. 57 Mercedes, which fell seven laps down after a throttle issue way back in the third hour, is now lurking. The AMG GT3 is back on the lead lap and now, remarkably, second with Philip Ellis. Don't count out the defending champions! Daniel Morad in the No. 32 Korthoff Competition Mercedes sits third. In GTD PRO AO Racing's 'Rexy' Porsche and the No. 4 Pratt Miller Corvette held station for the entire 60 minutes in first and second, but there was movement behind. Fabien Schiller and Connor De Phillippi made progress, climbing to third and fourth for GetSpeed and Paul Miller respectively. At Gradient Racing, work is ongoing on its Mustang GT3 after a long-standing clutch problem. The team has had to take the car behind the wall for attention. Two cars were confirmed as retirements during the hour due to mechanical woes, the first being the Inception Ferrari, the second the Inter Europol ORECA. We count 13 retirements now with nine hours to go. HOUR 15 STANDINGS Story originally appeared on Racer
