MP opposes State govt. decision to close down PM Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendras
Condemning the decision of State government to close down Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendras operating from State-run hospitals, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta said on Thursday, May 22, that with this the Congress government is playing with the life of poor people.
Capt. Chowta said in a statement that Janaushadhi Kendras have emerged as a successful model by ensuring affordable and quality medicine to lakhs of people, especially to poor people, at low cost. 'The State government has decided to close down over 200 Janaushadhi Kendras operating on the premises of primary and community health centres and taluk and district hospitals across the State by citing a lame excuse,' he said.
The kendras played a pivotal role in generating self-employment and providing jobs to others. They contributed for strengthening the economy of the country. The State government's decision will hit the future of many families, he said and alleged: 'It (the government's decision) is a clear example of Congress government's anti-people stand.'
Capt. Chowta, who is also the State secretary of the BJP, said that generic medicines are available at low cost ranging between 70 % to 90 % at the kendras.
'Whether the State government has bowed to the lobby of corporate pharmaceutical companies or private medical shops or if the government is unable to tolerate the Union government and Prime Minister as the kendras have become popular among people,' he asked.
'Whether the government is playing cheap politics even in the matters like people's health?,' Capt. Chowta questioned.
The MP said that he opposed the government's decision and was urging the State to withdraw its order.
It may be mentioned here that a Government Order (GO) issued on May 14 directed the Health Commissionerate to reject the 31 pending applications seeking approval to open Jan Aushadhi Kendras. With regard to the existing kendras on hospital premises, the department has been directed to terminate the agreement depending on the timelines mentioned in the memorandum of understanding.
According to the government, its decision is to ensure patients get free medicine in State-run hospitals following complaints that patients are being given prescriptions to buy medicine from outside although they are supposed to be provided free by government hospitals. Hospitals have been directed to purchase generic medicines from the Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Units of India (BPPI) and dispense them to patients for free.

Shashi Tharoor asked by his son about Pak involvement in Pahalgam terror attack
Washington, June 6 (UNI) Congress MP Shashi Tharoor who is leading an all-party delegation to the US, was asked a question by his son Ishan about Pakistan's denial of any involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack. Ishaan Tharoor wanted to know from his father whether any country had asked for evidence of Pakistan's involvement in the attack on April 22 and about Pakistan's consistent denial of its involvement in the attack. "Have any of your government interlocutors asked you to show evidence of Pakistan's culpability in the initial attack ? And what do you say to the repeated Pakistani denials of having any hand in the initial attack ?' Ishaan asked. Shashi Tharoor said India would not have retaliated the way it did if there was not convincing evidence against Pakistan. "I'm very glad you raised this. I didn't plant it, I promise you. Very simply, no one had any doubt, and we were not asked for evidence. But the media have asked in two or three places. Let me say very clearly that India would not have done this without convincing evidence. But there were three particular reasons I want to draw your attention to all of you. "The first is that we've had a 37-year pattern of repeated terror attacks from Pakistan, accompanied by repeated denials. I mean,Americans haven't forgotten that Pakistan didn't know, allegedly, where Osama bin Laden was until he was found in a Pakistani safe house right next to an army camp in a cantonment city. That's Pakistan. Mumbai attacks- they denied having anything to do with we know what Pakistan's all about. "They will dispatch terrorists, they will deny they did so until they're actually caught with red hands..." Shashi Tharoor said. UNI XC RB SSP

"Oh It's Okay": Trump Says Of Musk Political Marriage Meltdown
Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed. Trump downplayed his public fallout with Musk, who criticised his spending bill. The feud led to Tesla's stock drop and a threat by the President to strip the billionaire of his huge government contracts. US President Donald Trump said "Oh it's okay," when asked about his very public breakup with former ally and donor Elon Musk, POLITICO reported. White House aides have, according to the outlet, also scheduled a call with Musk on Friday in the hope of diffusing the situation. Trump and Musk's unlikely political marriage exploded in a fiery public divorce Thursday, with the US president threatening to strip the billionaire of his huge government contracts. Trump said in a televised Oval Office diatribe that he was "very disappointed" after his former aide and top donor criticized his "big, beautiful" spending bill before Congress. The pair traded insults over social media, with Musk -- who was Trump's biggest campaign donor to the tune of $300 million -- claiming the Republican would not have won the 2024 election without his support. But Trump played down the feud during his brief interview with POLITICO on Thursday. "It's going very well, never done better," Trump told POLITICO before going on to tout his favorability ratings. The row could have major political and economic fallout, as shares in Musk's Tesla car company plunged and the South African-born tech tycoon vowed that he would end a critical US spaceship program.
