Stop Uploading Or Sharing Unverified Information Related To Zara Qairina's Death
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police have detected the spread of information and a child's pictures linked to the Zara Qairina case by irresponsible parties on social media.
He stated that the shared information is inaccurate and has the potential to confuse the public, besides potentially affecting the ongoing investigation and hindering the process of justice for all involved.
"The entire investigation process for the case, including the post-mortem issue, is being conducted according to existing procedures and legal provisions, and all parties are advised to stop any action of uploading or sharing unverified information, including disclosing information related to the case investigation," he said in a statement tonight.
Mohd Khalid said the act of disclosing information related to the case can be investigated under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, which involves a prohibition on revealing the identity, address, school name, and pictures of the child involved, as well as Section 203A of the Penal Code for offenses related to the disclosure of information.
"The individuals involved can also be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of a network facility or network service. Adherence to the law is the basis of national peace and well-being. Any violation will be met with firm action in accordance with existing provisions," he said.
Zara Qairina, 13, was confirmed to have died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on July 17.
The student was taken to the hospital after being found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of a religious school in Papar at 4 am on July 16.
The investigation into the case is currently being finalised by the police after being returned by the Attorney-General's Chambers yesterday.

Findings point to a fall: Criminal elements, including bullying, not ruled out

Kuala Lumpur: The preliminary findings of the investigation into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir tally with the initial diagnosis of her cause of death, which are injuries sustained from a fall, say police. CID Director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the findings had been explained to Zara's family and lawyer. 'At the time of the initial diagnosis, the doctor stated that death was due to severe traumatic brain injuries with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy,' he said at a press conference, Wednesday (Aug 13). 'All injuries found during the post-mortem examination were explained to the mother, with a lawyer present. The injuries are consistent with previous findings and were sustained in a fall,' said Kumar. Zara Qairina's mother Noraidah Lamat had earlier filed a police report after finding bruises on her daughter's body during ritual bathing. The investigation into the death of the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha student in Papar, Sabah, will now focus on possible criminal elements, including bullying. At a press conference here today, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said this was among the findings of a special CID team comprising nine officers and personnel sent to Sabah on Aug 11 to probe the case. The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) announced its decision to conduct an inquest into Zara Qairina's death after reviewing the investigation report submitted by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The inquest will be carried out under subsection 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 593) to establish the cause and circumstances surrounding her death. Kumar said the post-mortem confirmed that Zara Qairina died from severe brain injury due to a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain caused by a fall, consistent with the initial diagnosis. So far, police have taken statements from 82 witnesses, including students, with some recalled for further questioning to establish what had happened before the fall. 'Police have also provided psychological intervention for 124 SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha students identified as traumatised by the incident, to help restore their confidence. Kumar also stressed there were no elements of a 'cover-up' in the investigation. He said the police are also probing the spread of false news on social media about the case, including allegations that the victim was put in a washing machine, to which a 39-year-old woman was arrested in Rawang under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 323 of the Penal Code. 'To date, 15 investigation papers have been opened related to the spread of unverified information that could disrupt public order and the investigation process,' he said. On Aug 8, the AGC said Zara Qairina's grave needed to be exhumed for a post-mortem to allow further investigation. On Aug 9, her remains were exhumed from the Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol, Sipitang, and taken to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for the post-mortem before being reburied at the same cemetery on Aug 12. Couple hired by loan shark nabbed over fatal blaze
JOHOR BARU: A couple, believed to have been hired by a Singapore-based loan shark, was arrested for suspicion of starting a house fire. The fire killed a 72-year-old woman in Kampung Bukit Siput, Segamat, on July 25. State police chief Comm Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received an emergency call regarding a fire involving five houses at about 4.30am. 'Investigations by the police and the Fire Department found elements of arson. 'We then formed a special task force and nabbed a couple, a 21-year-old and his 19-year-old girlfriend in Subang Jaya, Selangor, a week after the incident. 'During the interrogation it was revealed that a loan shark syndicate in Singapore hired them to carry out criminal intimidation by setting fire to the house of a borrower who had failed to repay a loan,' he told a press conference yesterday, Bernama reported. Comm Ab Rahaman said investigations found that the couple were suspected of actively committing mischief in Johor and Selangor since July, receiving RM1,000 for each job. 'At the time of the incident, the woman was alone. 'She had never received any threat. It is believed that the loan was taken out by a family member.' Comm Ab Rahaman said four investigation papers had been referred to the state legal advisor's office with instructions for prosecution. The male suspect will be charged at the Segamat Magistrate's Court today with nine charges under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code for causing death without intent, Section 436 for arson and Section 507 for criminal intimidation. 'His girlfriend has been released on police bail and will serve as a prosecution witness,' he said.
