Popeyes Announces Major Menu Change

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Popeyes has announced a new menu item being rolled out this summer after confirming the chicken chain finally has its own "Signature Sauce." The condiment was "five years in the making," according to Popeyes, which was founded in Louisiana in 1972 and now has 4,000 locations around the world. The chain announced the debut of its new sauce, which it promises packs a little spice, on July 15, which is now available in stores nationwide. Why It Matters The refresh comes just months after the restaurant chain suffered a disappointing sales quarter, with a 4 percent decline in the first quarter of this year, according to the Restaurant Business website. The outlet said the brand has struggled to gain a consistent level of sales growth. But bosses reportedly saw a boost to sales after introducing chicken wings last year, so they will no doubt be hoping that news of a new dipping sauce will tempt more diners into its restaurants to try it out. A Popeyes restaurant pictured on May 8, 2025, in Austin, To Know In a competitive market, each fast food chain must try to come up with a product that's uniquely theirs. Other fast food chains are known for their distinctive condiments, with McDonald's famously guarding the recipe to its "secret sauce" that's slathered on Big Macs. But Popeyes has never had its own "signature" until now. The new sauce is described as "creamy, craveable, and bursting with bold flavor." The dip will be a permanent addition to the menu with the restaurant saying that "this sauce is Popeyes through and through, and it's here to stay." A statement released by the restaurant chain last month says the sauce is a "classic Louisiana 'holy trinity' of bell pepper, celery, and onion, plus garlic and a dash of heat. This sauce delivers the perfect blend of soul and spice. And with a new round dipping cup, every bite hits just right." To serve alongside the sauce, Popeyes is also adding Chicken Dippers to its menu, although these will be available for a limited time only. The dish is described as "tender strips of all-white breast meat, hand-battered in our signature Louisiana garlic and spice blend." Popeyes' Sauces List Just because it didn't have its own Signature Sauce, that's not to say Popeyes didn't offer diners a selection of dips for their chicken. Customers could choose from: Wing Flavor Sauces BoldBQ Sauce Buttermilk Ranch Sauce Blackened Rance Sauce Sweet Heat Sauce Mardi Gras mustard Wild Honey Mustard Bayou Buffalo Sauce Tartar Sauce Cocktail Sauce Cajun Gravy Side The Signature Sauce will now be added to the list. What People Are Saying Chef Amy Alarcon, VP of Culinary Innovation at Popeyes, said: "This sauce is a huge moment for us. It's been five years in the making, and we knew it had to be something truly special, something that's not only unique to our brand, but undeniably Popeyes." What Happens Next The Chicken Dippers are a limited-time addition to the menu, so customers should hurry if they want to try them. However, the new Signature Sauce will be around for good and should be available at locations across the country, to eat in-store or order online.

New Orleans announces municipal ID card amid nationwide Ice crackdown

The city of New Orleans has announced a municipal identification program to provide ID cards to residents who may not be able to access such cards otherwise in a move seen as a positive step for the city's migrant communities as the Trump administration continues targeting undocumented people. The municipal government of New Orleans launched the Crescent City ID program on Monday, which is 'designed to promote inclusion' in the city. Vulnerable communities, including migrants, homeless people and others who may struggle to access identification cards can easily qualify for a municipal ID, which will allow them to have proof of identity and access some city services. The initiative to launch the ID program comes from the New Orleans mayor's office of human rights and equity. 'The Municipal ID Program aims to provide all residents of the City of New Orleans with a secure and inclusive form of identification that enhances access to city services, supports the local economy, enhances the quality of life of its residents and fosters a sense of belonging in the community,' reads a February document from the city regarding the program. Local news organization reports that the city's mayor, LaToya Cantrell, and city council vice-president Helena Moreno have promoted the program and its aim to help migrant communities. It is unclear what the federal government's response to the program will be. The Trump administration has threatened to crack down on cities nationwide with 'sanctuary' policies, which are directives that may offer certain protections to undocumented people. Last week, Trump's justice department filed a lawsuit against the city of New York for its sanctuary city policies, amid a broader trend of targeting such jurisdictions. The administration has also sued Los Angeles, New York state, Colorado, the city of Rochester and other cities in New Jersey for their policies. After threats of a lawsuit from the Trump administration, the city of Louisville, Kentucky, ditched a sanctuary policy and reinstated the practice of collaborating with federal immigration authorities. A federal court in Illinois, however, dealt a blow to the administration this week by throwing out the administration's lawsuit against the city of Chicago for its sanctuary policies. The New Orleans city ID program was approved in November by the city council and has been championed and supported by immigrant rights organizations. Mary Moran, the executive director of Our Voice Nuestra Voz, a local advocacy organization that promoted the program, told that, although it took some years for the program to pan out, they were 'really excited that the municipal ID is here and that folks will now have access to a safe and inclusive way of being able to identify themselves'. The ID will also allow people to mark themselves on the card, according to the gender they identify with – a move seen as a positive step for the LGBTQ+ community. The launch of New Orleans' program comes one month after Chicago stopped accepting applications for a similar municipal ID program, after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) subpoenaed records related to the program. With those fears in mind, a New Orleans official said the office handling the ID applications will store as little information as possible to protect applicants. Residents of the city can begin applying for the cards in early September, by bringing passports, birth certificates or other records to city officials. Solve the daily Crossword

Heat Advisory returns plus an Extreme Heat Warning starts off the new week!

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – As if Sunday wasn't hot enough, gear up for a toasty start to the new week. Sunday's Heat Advisory ended at 8 p.m. leading to a brief 'cool down' through the overnight, But it'll warm up pretty fast early on come Monday eventually getting up to 96-degrees with mostly sunny skies and a few scattered showers in the forecast. Another Heat Advisory will be in effect for your Monday starting at 10 a.m. and running until 8 p.m. There will also be an Extreme Heat Warning in effect starting at 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. on Monday for the following areas: St. James, St. John The Baptist, St. Charles, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Jefferson, and Plaquemines parishes in addition to Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties. When you put the forecasted temperatures together with the expected 'very humid' conditions, we will surely have Heat Index values nearing or even surpassing the 110-mark. I may sound like a broken record at this point because I can't stress the importance of heat safety and the following simple tips: (a) stay hydrated, (b) limit your time outdoors especially during the peak hours of the day and (c) check-in on family and friends who don't particularly do well in the dangerous heat. With what's currently expected for Tuesday in terms of the temperature and level of humidity, there's a pretty good chance that we could see another Heat Advisory for that day as well. Then getting back to rain chances, Sunday night will be pretty quiet: Then giving an overview for the rest of the week in terms of showers and storms, we will see greater chances every day after Wednesday — and these are also the days where we could see some relief temperature wise too!Latest Posts New technology helping to crack down on illegal dumping in New Orleans WATCH: LSU HC Brian Kelly recaps Day 1 of fall camp Trump goes off on Josh Hawley over insider trading bill Democrats ramp up pressure on Trump, GOP over Epstein files with arcane gambit Man arrested in connection with fatal New Orleans hit-and-run Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
