According to the World Economic Forum 's Global Retail Investor Outlook 2024, younger investors perceive crypto as more comprehensible than traditional investments such as ETFs, mutual funds, bonds, and stocks. While 29% avoid stocks due to a lack of understanding, only 24% say the same about crypto. This data reflects a deeper generational shift, a larger generational shift, in which Millennials and Generation Zs are not only digital natives but are also reinventing the concept of investing. These groups are more technologically adept, willing to explore, and more accepting of new-age financial assets. Their focus isn't just saving, it's building wealth by tapping into emerging, disruptive opportunities.Growing up with the internet, smartphones, and the real-time social media wave has influenced Millennials' and Generation Z's digital fluency. This naturally leads them to explore emerging technologies such as blockchain, Web3 , and decentralized finance (DeFi).Their psychological behavior, which is characterized by curiosity, awareness, and a desire to look into and construct, offers them the patience to study and engage with crypto ecosystems. They aren't looking for instant gains instead, they are planning long-term wealth strategies.According to Hashed Emergent's report titled India Web3 Landscape 2024, more than half of Indian Web3 developers have entered the profession in the previous two years, with 85% under the age of 27. This suggests not only early investment by Gen Zs and Millennials but also an active participation in building the ecosystem.Younger generations, who frequently begin investing earlier than their predecessors, are increasingly drawn to models that provide transparency, control, and shared ownership. Web3 makes that commitment. With technologies like crypto wallets, DeFi protocols, and token-gated access, young investors see an opportunity to get around antiquated systems and take control of their financial future.According to the same Hashed Emergent report, India is home to over 1,200 Web3 startups, making it the third-largest Web3 startup hub globally, many of which are founded or driven by youth. The surge in Web3 acceptance is also accompanied by broader infrastructure support, ranging from UPI prevalence and smartphone accessibility to digital-first financial literacy . The educational landscape is also catching up, with institutions and edtech platforms launching blockchain-focused programs to accommodate rising demand from students and developers.Web3 is more than just a technology for Gen Zs and Millennials; it represents an ideological shift. They are rethinking what it means to own, create, and participate in the digital world through activities such as DAO governance and digital collectible trading. They do not only desire to consume. They want to create, co-own, and shape the digital worlds that they inhabit. Web3 provides them with the architecture and autonomy to do so.Unlike their predecessors, who may have preferred safer and more regulated investment options like gold, real estate, or fixed deposits, Gen Z and Millennials appear to have a psychological preference and tendency towards experimentation and digital-first investing.Their appetite for challenges is influenced by exposure to startups, side hustles, the creator economy, and instant access to global financial information. For these generations, investing isn't just a financial act, it has become a form of identity, participation, and belief in a future-forward system. This perspective drives their early embrace of crypto, DAOs, and other tokenized assets, which provide direct ownership and a sense of co-creation in systems they believe in.According to reports, this group is less constrained by traditional financial rules and motivated by peer influence, digital trends, and community validation, which is consistent with the way the Web3 ecosystem operates.Their willingness to explore, build, and take on challenges, not just as early adopters but as the architects of the decentralized future, is what will define the next wave of digital innovation.(The article is attributed to Kushal Manupati, Regional Growth & Ops Lead of South Asia, Binance.)

Professional hacker warns: It takes only 3 minutes to crack your password

Cybersecurity expert Brandyn Murtagh recently revealed just how vulnerable personal passwords can be to hackers , showing how quickly cybercriminals can get access to sensitive information. By leveraging publicly available data breaches and simple investigative methods, Murtagh cited that within three minutes, he can uncover passwords along with other personal information such as phone numbers, addresses, and recent location details that could potentially be misused for fraud or unauthorized access to accounts. Risks of Weak Passwords Murtagh has teamed up with Virgin Media O2 to raise public awareness and boost password security in the UK this summer. Recent research conducted by the company revealed alarming trends: over one in 20 Britons admitted to using the word 'password' as their login, while the same number used 'password1.' Murray Mackenzie , Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, warned: 'Despite people worrying about online threats, weak and short passwords are putting them at risk. That's why we're showing how easy it is for cybercriminals to access data online and offering simple steps to protect yourself.' The study also revealed other common password choices, including number sequences such as '123456' and '123456789.' Overall, six in ten adults admitted to using basic passwords despite elevated scam threats, and 45% continued to depend on old and familiar combinations. Alarmingly, 11% believed holding predictable passwords has no risk. Other common practices included using children's or pets' names (32%) or dates of birth (14%) as passwords. The survey also showed generational differences were apparent as well: : Baby Boomers were more cautious than Gen Z, with only 20% of older adults admitting to using easy-to-guess passwords compared to 43% of Gen Z. Murray Mackenzie highlighted the significance of strong credentials: 'We're working tirelessly to keep customers safe from cybercriminals blocking millions of fraudulent texts, malware, spyware, and flagging harmful websites. But everyone needs to take action to stay safe online. That starts with strong, unique passwords, particularly for email, phone, social media, and online banking.' Despite repeated warnings from cyber security experts, a huge number of people continue to use such simple passwords. This behavior makes accounts exposed and enhances the risk of identity theft, financial loss, and unauthorized entry into online accounts. The demonstration emphasizes that cybercriminals do not always need advanced hacking tools to get access to accounts. Live Events Best Practices for Strong Passwords To protect personal information, cybersecurity professionals recommend several key strategies: Avoid Reusing Passwords: Using the same password across multiple accounts increases risks. If an account is compromised, all accounts with the same password become vulnerable. Create Complex Credentials: Strong passwords should be at least 14 characters and include a combination of letters, numbers, and special symbols. Using common phrases or a mix of unrelated words can enhance security. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): 2FA adds an extra layer of protection by needing a second verification step, such as a code sent to a mobile device, in addition to the password. Role of Password Managers Password managers can play a crucial role in safeguarding online accounts and act as valuable tools for securing online accounts. They allow users to generate and store complex, unique passwords without the need to remember each one. While some individuals still prefer to write down their passwords or use easy methods, this can leave accounts vulnerable to attacks. Making use of a reputable password manager ensures that passwords are stored securely and reduces the complications associated with weak or reused passwords. FAQs: Q1. What is two-factor authentication (2FA)? A1. 2FA adds a second verification step, such as a code sent to a mobile device. This extra layer makes accounts harder to access even if passwords are stolen. Q2. Why are weak passwords risky? A2. Weak passwords are easy for hackers to guess or crack. They leave accounts open to identity theft, fraud, and unauthorized access.

Among the largest economies, China has achieved its best-ever position at 12th, driven by strong innovation and the highest clean energy acquisition volumes in the world. The US ranks 17th due to its solid security measures and improvements in sustainability. However, it has slipped down to its previous year's position – 63rd in the 2024 Global Energy Transition Index but made notable strides in reducing CH4 emissions and boosting energy efficiency and clean energy investment capability this year. To boost its ranking, it can improvement in grid reliability, rural energy access, and reduced reliance on imported energy could boost energy security and equity.
