
How to Easily Connect Your Laptop to Your TV
There are a few drawbacks though. Text can look tiny from a distance input lag may affect gaming and using your couch as a desk chair might not be ideal for your posture. You'll also need to figure out how to handle your keyboard and mouse setup. Still using your TV as a monitor can be a smart and low-cost upgrade especially if you already have the cables or gear you need.
Mirroring vs. extending
Mirroring means putting the same content on both your laptop's screen and the TV. It's more common and generally easier than screen extending -- where you see different content on both, making the TV an extension of your laptop's screen. Extending is useful for things like having a YouTube video running on the TV while you're working on a spreadsheet on your laptop. It's a bit more involved but still possible depending on your equipment. Mostly, we'll be talking about mirroring in this article.

The easiest way: Wired HDMI
The most basic PC-to-TV connection consists of running a wire from your computer to the HDMI input on your TV. If you have an older TV and an older laptop, there are options like VGA, but that's basically the Dark Ages at this point.
Laptops and PCs have a bunch of different connections, so which wire or adapter you'll need to run depends on what computer you have. If you're not sure, check the manual or Google the model to determine its specs. Here's the rundown.

Full-size HDMI: If you're lucky, your laptop has a full-sized HDMI output, so you can use a standard HDMI cable to run to your TV.
Mini- or micro-HDMI: These smaller versions of HDMI just need an adapter, or a cable that has a regular HDMI at the other end, to connect directly to your TV.
Thunderbolt, DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort: All of these usually work with HDMI as well. Thunderbolt is found on many laptops. The first two versions of the connector were the same as Mini DisplayPort, so Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI cables or adapters should work. Newer versions use the same connectors as USB-C (see the next section). Full-sized DisplayPort is common to Windows PCs. Again, you'll need an adapter or cable with this type of connection on one end and HDMI on the other.
USB-C port: Many modern laptops have only this kind of connection. Usually you'll just need an adapter (USB-C to HDMI) and it will work fine, but sometimes it might not work at all. MacBooks from the last few years should work, as will Microsoft Surface laptops and many others. Note that USB-C uses the same physical connection as Apple's Thunderbolt 3. Check your computer's specs to double-check what connector/adapter you might need.

HDMI Licensing
More wired tips: There are so many varieties of laptops out there, we can't make a blanket statement that a particular adapter will work for your PC. If you're not sure, Google your brand and model before you buy any kind of adapter.
Also, in some cases the quality might be diminished. You also won't likely get HDR or 4K resolution, for example, so if you want the best image quality for videos, you should use a different method to get the videos to your TV, like a Roku or Blu-ray player.

Wireless connections
There are a few options to skip the wires completely. Again, it depends on what computer you have, as well as the capabilities of your TV (or the streaming device connected to your TV).
If you have an Apple computer: The easiest way is to use AirPlay. But you'll need a device that supports it, namely:

A TV that's Air Play 2 compatible from popular brands like Samsung, Sony, LG or Vizio.
If you have a Windows PC: There's something called Miracast, though it's not as widespread as "all recent Apple products" like AirPlay. Your Windows laptop should have the tech built-in. On the TV side, devices that support Miracast include:
The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter looks like just a cable, but has the wireless receiver inside, powered by your TV's USB port.

If you have a Chromebook: Computers that run Google's Chrome OS can send content to a TV wirelessly too. To use it you'll need:
Casting from a Chrome browser: If you don't have a TV device with AirPlay or Miracast compatibility you can still mirror your screen from the Chrome browser on any laptop. It works with any of the devices from the Chromebook list above. Only content on the browser will be visible, and certain websites won't work.
You can also "cast" content from a variety of mobile apps, like Netflix or YouTube, to most smart TVs. This isn't screen mirroring, but if you're just looking to get some content from your phone to a bigger screen, this is an easy way to do it.
Google Chromecast lets you mirror your Chrome browser page on any TV for $35.

If your intention is to play games, the lag from a wireless connection is probably going to prohibit any fun with games that require fast and accurate clicking, like with first-person shooters and racing games.
Accessories
If you want to up your game a bit, consider a few optional accessories. A wireless keyboard or mouse can go a long way toward making your PC-on-TV experience easier. Here's a couple inexpensive options.

Settings tips
Your TV and your laptop's screen are probably different resolutions. In theory this won't be an issue, but if you're finding text hard to read, or overall the image looks poor, make sure the laptop's output matches your TV's resolution.
It's easy to do on both Windows and Mac. If you're also trying to send audio, that might need to be switched on as well, either by clicking the speaker button in the lower right on Windows, or in System Preferences on Mac.
On the TV side, make sure you disable your TV's overscan. It might be disabled automatically, but if the edges of your desktop are cutoff, dig deep into your TV's menus for something like "size" or "zoom." If you're gaming, also see if your TV has a game mode. This should help reduce input lag, the delay between you pressing a button and that action showing up on screen. It's also a good idea to lower the sharpness control. I mean, in general this is a good idea, but here specifically it should help you make out fine details better, like text.
A TV's sharpness control usually just increases artificial edge enhancement, masking fine details and adding noise. Note the "halo" around the objects in the version on the right.

Speaking of text, if you're trying to work from your couch it's likely that despite the extra screen size, text is still too small. If that's the case, you can adjust text size on Windows and Mac. You can also use the zoom controls in certain apps, like Chrome browsers.
If you're not getting an image on screen at all, try unplugging the HDMI and plugging it back in (with the TV on), and if that doesn't work, leave it all plugged in but turn the TV off then on. This is trite advice for a reason: it solves so many issues.

Palo Alto Networks Reports Fiscal Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2025 Financial Results
Fiscal fourth quarter revenue grew 16% year over year to $2.5 billion. Fiscal year 2025 revenue grew 15% year over year to $9.2 billion. Next-Generation Security ARR grew 32% year over year to $5.6 billion. Remaining performance obligation grew 24% year over year to $15.8 billion. SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Palo Alto Networks® (NASDAQ: PANW), the global cybersecurity leader, announced today financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter and fiscal year, ended July 31, 2025. Total revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter 2025 grew 16% year over year to $2.5 billion, compared with total revenue of $2.2 billion for the fiscal fourth quarter 2024. GAAP net income for the fiscal fourth quarter 2025 was $253.8 million, or $0.36 per diluted share, compared with GAAP net income of $357.7 million, or $0.51 per diluted share, for the fiscal fourth quarter 2024. Non-GAAP net income for the fiscal fourth quarter 2025 was $673.0 million, or $0.95 per diluted share, compared with non-GAAP net income of $522.2 million, or $0.75 per diluted share, for the fiscal fourth quarter 2024. Envoy Technologies Update On August 6, 2025, Blink announced that it has reached an agreement with the former shareholders of its wholly owned subsidiary, Envoy Technologies, Inc. ('Envoy'), a leading provider of on-demand electric vehicle car-sharing services for real estate companies, to amend the organization's planned merger agreement. The amended agreement releases Blink from all payment obligations and liability following the issuance of $10 million in shares of Company common stock, based on the volume-weighted average trading price for the 25 trading days preceding the issuance date, and warrants exercisable for shares of Company common stock with an aggregate notional value of $11 million, divided into three tranches with vesting conditions as follows: $2.5 million worth of warrants that will vest upon the common stock of Blink reaching a price per share of $1.70 for seven consecutive days; $2.5 million worth of warrants that will vest upon the common stock of Blink reaching a price per share of $2.10 for seven consecutive days; and $6 million worth of warrants that will vest upon the common stock of Blink reaching a price per share of $4.85 for seven consecutive days. Business Outlook Based on current visibility, Blink expects to achieve continued sequential revenue growth in the second half of 2025. Looking ahead, the Company expects to maintain strong momentum across both its recurring and repeatable charging revenue streams. Recurring revenues, derived primarily from network fees, are expected to benefit from the expanding installed base of chargers. At the same time, the Company expects growth in repeatable charging revenue as it scales its EV charging infrastructure, driven by increased utilization and rising energy prices. The Company remains committed to advancing operational efficiency through disciplined expense management and targeted initiatives aimed at lowering operating costs and reducing cash burn. Second Quarter and First Six Months 2025 Financial Results Total Revenues were $28.7 million for the second quarter of 2025, compared to revenues of $33.3 million in the second quarter of 2024. Second quarter revenues grew 38% sequentially compared to revenue of $20.8 million in the first quarter of 2025. For the first six months of 2025, Blink reported total revenue of $49.4 million compared to revenue of $70.8 million in the first six months of 2024. Product Revenues were $14.5 million in the second quarter of 2025, compared to $23.6 million in the second quarter of 2024. In the first six months of 2025, product revenues were $22.9 million compared to $51.1 million in the first six months of 2024. Sequentially, product revenues grew 73%, primarily driven by demand for DC fast chargers and L2 Series chargers, compared to the first quarter of 2025. Service Revenues, which consist of repeat charging service revenues, recurring network fees, and car-sharing service revenues, increased by $3.7 million or 46% to $11.8 million in the second quarter of 2025, compared to service revenues of $8.0 million in the second quarter of 2024, primarily driven by greater utilization of chargers and an increased number of chargers on the Blink networks. Sequentially, service revenues increased 11% as compared to the first quarter of 2025. Service Revenues for the first six months of 2025 were $22.3 million, an increase of 38% compared to service revenues of $16.2 million in the same prior year period. Other Revenues, which are comprised of warranty fees, grants and rebates, and additional sources, were $2.4 million in the second quarter of 2025, compared to $1.6 million in the second quarter of 2024. For the first six months of 2025, other revenues were $4.2 million as compared to $3.5 million in the first six months of Profit was $2.1 million, or 7% of revenues in the second quarter of 2025, compared to gross profit of $10.7 million, or 32% of revenues, in the second quarter of 2024. Gross profit in the first six months of 2025 was $9.5 million or 19% of revenues compared to $24.1 million or 34% of revenues in the same prior year period. For the three and six months of 2025, gross profit was impacted primarily by non-cash inventory and PP&E adjustment of $6.4 million related to obsolete inventory and PP&E items. Excluding the impact of this largely one-time, non-cash charge, the gross profit in the second quarter of 2025 would have been $8.5 million or 30% gross profit expenses in the second quarter of 2025 were $34.3 million compared to $31.4 million in the second quarter of 2024. In the first six months of 2025, operating expenses were $62.8 million compared to $62.3 million in the first six months of 2024. Operating expenses in the second quarter of 2025 include approximately $10.1 million of largely one-time, non-cash charges, primarily related to assets impairment, fair value changes in Envoy consideration payable, stock-based compensation, and doubtful accounts receivable reserve expenses. Excluding the impact of these non-cash charges, operating expenses in the second quarter of 2025 would have been $24.2 Loss for the second quarter of 2025 was ($32.0) million, or ($0.31) per basic and diluted share, compared to a net loss of ($20.1) million, or ($0.20) per basic and diluted share in the second quarter of 2024. Net loss in the first six months of 2025 was ($52.7) million or (0.51) per basic and diluted share, compared to a net loss in the first six months of 2024 of ($37.2) million or ($0.37) per basic and diluted share. As of June 30, 2025, the weighted average number of shares outstanding was 102.9 million. As of June 30, 2024, the weighted average number of shares outstanding was 101.0 million. Adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter of 2025 was a loss of ($24.5) million compared to an adjusted EBITDA loss of ($14.7) million in the second quarter of 2024. Adjusted EBITDA for the first six months of 2025 was a loss of ($39.9 million) compared to an adjusted EBITDA loss of ($24.9) million in the first six months of 2024. Adjusted EBITDA (defined as earnings/loss before interest income/expense, provision for income taxes, depreciation and amortization, stock-based compensation, acquisition related costs, estimated loss related to underperforming assets of subsidiary, change in fair value related to Envoy consideration payable, and assets impairment is a non-GAAP financial measure management uses as a proxy for net income/loss. Utility to buy power from advanced nuclear plant to power Tennessee and Alabama Google data centers
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The nation's largest public utility plans to buy power from an upcoming advanced nuclear plant to help fuel Google data centers in Tennessee and Alabama, according to a deal announced Monday. The Tennessee Valley Authority, California-based Kairos Power and Google say the agreement will deliver up to 50 megawatts of energy to the federal utility's grid that powers the data centers. The announcement comes at a time when tech companies expect to require a massive amount of power to fuel data centers behind artificial intelligence, and some of them have been especially interested in new nuclear production. President Donald Trump released a plan last month to boost AI and build data centers across the U.S. and in May signed executive orders aimed at boosting nuclear power. TVA says it is the first U.S. utility to sign a power purchase agreement to buy electricity from a next-generation nuclear reactor. It would rely on the Hermes 2 reactor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2030. The agreement will power data centers in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and Jackson County, Alabama, and support future growth in the region, the news release said. Google will receive clean energy credits associated with the plant. 'This collaboration with TVA, Kairos Power, and the Oak Ridge community will accelerate the deployment of innovative nuclear technologies and help support the needs of our growing digital economy while also bringing firm carbon-free energy to the electricity system,' Amanda Peterson Corio, Google's global head of data center energy, said in the news release. Hermes 2 is the first reactor under a deal between Kairos Power and Google to bring on 500 megawatts of new, advanced nuclear power production to help cover the tech giant's increased demand for electricity. The new kind of nuclear reactor uses fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor technology. It uses molten salt as a coolant. Another test version of the plant in Oak Ridge, named Hermes, does not produce electricity. The Hermes 2 plant received a construction permit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in November. The plant still has more steps to complete, including an application for an operating license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Many next-generation reactors, including Kairos' Hermes 2, will use high-assay low-enriched uranium. The fuel is enriched to a higher level than traditional large nuclear reactors use, allowing the newer reactors to run longer and more efficiently, sit on smaller footprints and produce less waste, according to the Department of Energy. There's little of it made in the United States right now. But companies are investing to ramp up production, including in Oak Ridge.
