What if Jesus was a vlogger? The AI Bible stories flooding social media

The Guardian5 hours ago
Jesus walks through an emerald field holding a selfie stick. The first chords of Billie Eilish's Birds of a Feather rise like a prayer. 'OK besties so apparently I'm the chosen one, like full-blown save humanity arc,' he cheeses. 'Love that for me.' Jesus flicks his Jonathan Van Ness locks behind his ears.
The scene switches. He's still holding the selfie stick but now he's strolling through a dusty town. 'So I just told the squad I have to die and Peter literally tried to gaslight me. Like babes, don't be dramatic. This is the prophecy.'
Another cut. Jesus at a candlelit banquet. 'Hey chat, so we're halfway through dinner. Judas couldn't even make eye contact.' He shakes his head and looks back to the camera with a knowing smirk. 'He's so fake!'

On first glance, this genre of video – the reimagination of Bible stories through the Americanised lens of fuckboy vlog culture – feels like bizarre, sacrilegious gobbledegook. Unless you want to intellectualise it as the congregation of 2025's holy trinity: AI, influencer culture and rising conservatism. Up to you. Are these videos a sign of the times? Are they symptomatic of the American right? Are they brainwashing me towards Christianity? Why is their biblical drip kind of horny? Why can't I stop watching them? Why is my brain leaking out of my ear?!?
My first indoctrination to these Bible vlogs happened while I was lying in bed. I was slack-jawed from a scrolling session of biblical proportions when the algorithm parted and Joseph of Nazareth hit my screen. 'Peep the fit! Ancient drip on lock y'all. Market haul hitting different today. Figs stay juicy, no cap.' I sat up slightly, wiping the drool from my mouth. Further drivel is not often the antidote to brain rot, and yet … I was Daniel in the lion's den. I was Jonah inside the whale. I was mixing metaphors. My commitment to scrolling had delivered me to salvation.

In the days of yore I flirted with religion. I knelt in church with my grandparents when they were in town, attended scripture, chilled at youth group to socialise with my friends and boys at large. There was a brief dalliance with Hillsong (I was 13 and needed Friday night plans). I decided it was all a bit much when: a) a girl in front of me started shaking and screaming that her parents were 'captured by the devil'; and b) I peeked behind a curtain in the church and saw a bunch of teenagers fingering each other.
My views on both fingering and religion have now changed. The current extent of my spiritual practice is saying stuff such as 'Jesus take the wheel!' or 'Oh my God!' and taking pictures of ecclesiastical iconography while travelling in Catholic countries to then later post on Instagram.
And yet every night of the week I find myself flicking past outfit inspo and restaurant recommendations so I can sink my teeth into an AI-generated vibe check from the last supper. So I can tuck into a vlog of a Trojan horse unboxing. Or perhaps even a vox pop from Easter Monday. And then a series of street reactions to David killing Goliath. Really cool stuff.

I recently went to confession with a friend, admitting my fanaticism. I was preaching to the converted; she, too, had bitten into the apple of AI Bible stories. Jesus, she said, was kind of the first influencer. Mary and Joseph were giving toxic vlog parents. And if Judas was around now he'd totally be uploading 40-minute-uncut-no-makeup YouTube screeds – or at least a finely crafted notes app apology.
Momentarily, I consider the environmental cost. How many litres of water did it take for me to witness Mary dabbing? How many finite resources were burned so an AI Jesus could make a joke about dropping the water to wine tutorial? How many years did we take off the planet so – wait! Shh. The next video is starting.
Adam sits in a podcast booth, noise-cancelling headphones on, a mic in front of him, sporting a top constructed of a flimsy conga line of leaves. 'So God makes me. Right? Boom. First man, no parents, no nothing. I'm like … 'Ooh … I'm literally about to be everyone's daddy!'' My eyes glaze over, my mouth falls open and I bring my hands to prayer. They part and I clash them together, again and again, demonic. Another one! Another one! Another one!

EXCLUSIVE Special meaning behind Kelly Osbourne's custom engagement ring revealed and it's sweet tribute to late friend Joan Rivers - after boyfriend Sid Wilson popped the question at her rockstar dad Ozzy's final gig

The special meaning behind Kelly Osbourne 's eye-popping diamond engagement ring has been revealed after boyfriend Sid Wilson popped the question backstage at her dad Ozzy 's final gig on Saturday night. MailOnline can exclusively reveal how the Slipknot musician, 48, turned to luxury jeweller Mouawad to help him create the custom sparkler which also paid tribute to his partner's late friend Joan Rivers. In a clip from Sid's first meeting with Mouawad boss Pascal Mouawad, he explained that he wanted the bauble to nod to a nickname both he and the comedian, who died in 2014 aged 81, had for Kelly, 40. He said: 'So I have a nickname for Kelly, and it's "Honeybee" and coincidentally a friend of hers, Joan Rivers used to call her this'. 'It was a nickname [Joan] had for her. I didn't know this, it's like an amazing coincidence, it's like whoa, like meant to be'. He explained how Kelly, who co-hosted E! Fashion Police with the late Joan, had landed the moniker due to her always 'buzzing around' and 'spreading good energy' so wanted the ring to be inspired by bees and pollen. Drawing from this affectionate nickname, the ring's design features a unique beehive inspired structure, seamlessly marrying sentiment with elegance. The result is a dazzling 18K yellow gold ring adorned with both white and yellow diamonds, as well as citrine accents. If that wasn't enough the centre piece is a stunning 2.5 carat round brilliant-cut diamond, symbolising the enduring and multifaceted nature of love. Later in the clip Sid was left stunned when he saw the ring for the first time and his idea come to life. 'It's like blinding! it sparklers!' he exclaimed, 'She's just going to live it, it's beautiful' before choking back tears as he described the gorgeous ring as 'more than prefect'. Following Joan's death Kelly got a bumble bee tattoo in tribute to her late pal and the nickname she had given her. Taking to Instagram she wrote 'In honor of you @joanrivers..."If you looked at aerodynamics, at science, the bumble bee should not be able to fly. Physically, it was just not anatomically equipped to soar. 'Yet it did, defying gravity, defying logic. The bee was a creature that defied and beat the odds, a miracle." Thank you for being my Miracle @joanrivers.' Later in the clip Sid was left stunned when he saw the ring for the first time and his idea come to life as he described it as 'more than prefect' Ozzy was performing his farewell show with Black Sabbath at Villa Park, with his whole family in attendance. And in a surprise backstage moment, Kelly's long-term boyfriend, Slipknot star Sid with whom she shares son Sidney, decided it was the perfect time to propose. Kelly shared video of the proposal, joking: 'Oh and this happened yesterday!'. The clip opened with Kelly's mum Sharon appearing to guess what was happening as she shouted at the crowded room: 'You've got to be quiet!' Sid was then seen standing in front of Ozzy and Sharon, preparing to get down on one knee before his future father-in-law cheekily interrupted 'f**k off you're not marrying my daughter are you?' Sid laughed as he continued: 'Kelly you know I love you more than anything. Nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you.' 'So in front of your family and all of our friends, Kelly will you marry me?' A delighted Ozzy asked Sid for a look at the ring as Sharon applauded, before Kelly jumped into her new fiance's arms. Kelly's celeb pals rushed to congratulate the star, with Rylan commenting on her Instagram post: 'OMG KEL!!! Congraaatttsssss' Jonathan Cheban added: 'AMAZING. LOVE YOU MOCHIE!!! Congrats!!!!' Hours earlier, Kelly had shared a gushing post reflecting on her 'magical' evening at Ozzy's final show. Posting a gallery of snaps from the evening, she penned the caption: 'To say that yesterday was magic was an understatement! In a surprise backstage moment, Kelly's long-term boyfriend Sid with whom she shares son Sidney, decided it was the perfect time to propose 'In front of your family and all of our friends, Kelly will you marry me?' Sid asked Kelly, before Kelly jumped into her new fiance's arms 'I can't even write this without tears streaming down my face! Thank you to everyone who came to support my dad. 'Thank you to the fans who without we are nothing! My dad got his moment in the sun! He was able to say thank you and good bye in the most beautiful way!'. Speaking in October Kell said that Sid 'really wants to get married,' but that is wasn't important to her. The couple began dating in 2022 and welcomed their son Sidney in November 2023. Although she isn't keen on getting married, Kelly confirmed last year that she would exchange vows with Sid because it's important to him. 'I found my guy. We don't need the certificate. But I know Sid really wants to get married, so we will get married. It's not as important to me,' she told Us Weekly. 'I've worn so many beautiful dresses and had so many moments that have been just about me, so that whole idea of a big day isn't as important to me ... 'Never in a million f****** years did I think I'd end up with a rock star partner, but I did.' Kelly went on to reveal she also hopes the couple will be able to expand their family in the future, saying: 'I definitely want more babies!'

Taylor Rooks confirms lyrics from new Drake song 'Supermax' are about her

TNT Sports host Taylor Rooks has confirmed fan theories that she was name-dropped by Drake in his latest song. The rap superstar shocked fans as he shared the first episode of his new series 'ICEMAN' over the weekend - which included a snippet of a song called 'Supermax'. Fans were quick to note that one lyric mentioned a woman known as 'Taylor', with many speculating it referred to the TNT Sports host, who is a known friend of Drake. The lyrics in question were: 'I was talking to Taylor over drinks, and it was getting deep / 'Not everyone can handle this pressure and, in the city, you're the national treasure,' that's what she said to me'. Shortly after the video was released, Rooks eventually broke her silence with an Instagram story and put an end to the fan speculation. The glamorous broadcaster shared a screenshot of the song, with the lyrics: 'That's what she said to me'. The friendship between Rooks and Drake has been no secret in recent years and the duo have been publicly spotted together on multiple occasions. One of those included the Kentucky Derby back in 2022, where they posed for a picture together which Rooks later posted on his Instagram story. She wrote: 'Truly appreciate our friendship. These are legendary moments. Happy we all get to experience them with everyone'. Rooks, 33, has been with TNT Sports since 2023 where she began as a sideline reporter, typically for college basketball games. She then began covering NBA games during the 2024-25 season and, for the 2025-26 season, she will be leading NBA on Prime Video alongside Dirk Nowitski. Drake, meanwhile, made headlines last month as he sparked plastic surgery rumors after displaying a particularly defined set of six pack abs in a new thirst trap. The musician, 38, unveiled his chiseled torso in a post he uploaded to Instagram, followed by video of him going for a run in a park. However, a glaring detail set off alarm bells amongst fans who suspected the abs were not necessarily the result of his jogs but rather a plastic surgeon.

Caitlyn Jenner bonds with her late manager Sophia Hutchins' mother in the wake of her tragic ATV death at 29

Caitlyn Jenner suffered a big loss this week when her right-hand woman, Sophia Hutchins, 29, died in a horror ATV crash on July 2. And on Saturday morning, Jenner was spotted finding comfort with Sophia's mother while out together in Malibu. Hutchins, like Jenner, was transgender and cited the father-of-six as the inspiration for coming out in college at Pepperdine University in 2016. Jenner looked somber as she strode ahead of Sophia's mother a day after she declined to speak about her late friend. Caitlyn wore a long-sleeved blue T-shirt with grey pants and a visor while Sophia's mom wore a long-sleeved green T-shirt and knee-length white shorts. Sophia wasn't just Jenner's manager, she was her friend and lived in the Olympian's Malibu mansion with her. Jenner looked somber in Malibu on Friday, marking the first time she had been seen in public since the tragedy - before exclusively telling she was going through 'tough times' navigating the loss of Hutchins. Putting on a brave face, she was seen waving at photographers before heading back to her $3.5million Malibu mansion. The star later said 'I don't want to talk' about the tragedy. In 2017, Hutchins moved into Jenner's home and began working as the star's manager, taking over the role from Jenner's ex-wife Kris Jenner, 69, after their 2015 divorce. Hutchins was in Jenner's inner circle for over a decade after she came out as a transgender woman in 2016. Hutchins met Caitlyn that year and appeared in multiple episodes of the television documentary series I Am Cait, a spin-off of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Despite living under one roof, Hutchins previously told The New York Times that they 'were never romantically involved', insisting it was all about work and friendship. 'Caitlyn is a parent to me. I have said that a million times. It is a parental, familial relationship,' Sophia said. In 2020, Sophia posed for an online ad campaign for Kim Kardashian's highly successful clothing line SKIMS. Sophia was particularly close to Kris Jenner, speaking to her regularly, and Hutchins also had a good relationship with Jenner's daughters Kendall, 29, and Kylie, 27. The siblings once gave Sophia a stunning heart-shaped diamond necklace for Christmas. 'I'm on good terms with all the family, but I'm closest with Kris, Kim, Kylie and Kendall', Sophia said. Sophia was formerly Scott Hutchins and began her transition while attending college, but previously revealed that she had identified as female at a young age. As a student at Pepperdine, she began to undergo certain medical procedures as well as hormone treatments and hair removal. The businesswoman had seen a therapist - who helped aid in the decision to transition but seeing Jenner's 20/20 interview where the star announced her own transition put everything into full swing. During an interview with her school newspaper in 2016, Hutchins reflected, 'I've always had the question of "Do I want to transition from male to female?" 'I never thought a lot about doing it until I got into college because I was able to break away from my family and started to establish my own identity.' She had also given credit to her time at school 'to deal with a lot of issues that had always been there.' And after watching Caitlyn's interview, Sophia explained that it, 'made it so much more real for [her], like normal and successful people do this and people are okay when they do it.' Hutchins ended up taking some time off of school in order to complete her gender transition. When she was at the age of 15, Hutchins remembered telling a friend that she was female for the first time. 'It's almost like it just came out. I didn't even mean to let it out since I had been so used to holding it in and brushing it under the rug.' In 2019 during an appearance on Jim Breslo's Hidden Truth Show, Sophia also got candid about her gender identity. The media personality remembered making comments about her gender dysmorphia to her parents as young as age five. After her transition, Hutchins stated, 'I truly feel my spirit, my soul, my mind is exactly the same, I am just so much more comfortable physically.' 'Before I transitioned I felt like "Yeah, I'm definitely just a girl, but I'm in the wrong body." And I felt trapped in that body.' She added, 'And I needed to have the hormones to change the body, for me, the surgeries to change the body. 'But for me, that's what I wanted to do, and that's what made me ultimately so at peace.'
