"You obviously want to win against these guys": Manish Pandey on facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 17 (ANI): Ahead of an all-important clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Manish Pandey expressed his thoughts on the 58th encounter of the cash rich league.
On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the resumption of the 18th season of the IPL and revealed the schedule for the remaining 17 fixtures.
The BCCI suspended the cash-rich league for a week due to tensions between India and Pakistan.
Speaking on the clash at the pre-match press conference, Manish Pandey said, 'Nothing much to lose from here. We could have a better tournament as a team, we were discussing that. We lost a very crucial game in the middle. Two more games to go, so every player in the lineup is eager to perform. Especially in a stadium like Chinnaswamy, and where RCB fans are there, you obviously want to win against these guys.'
The Knight Riders have a rivalry against the RCB side for a long time now. The most interesting fixture between the two side was back in 2017 when the Kolkata bowlers rattled the Bengaluru batting order at a mere total of 49, which is the lowest by any team so far in the history of IPL.
KKR have dominated the RCB side at the M. Chinnasamy Stadium in last 10 years as they have not lost a single game at the venue since 2015.

IPL is set to resume on May 17 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru squaring off against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
RCB are currently placed at second in the points table, with eight victories and three defeats in 11 matches. KKR are placed at sixth with five wins and six defeats in 12 matches. (ANI)

"I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn't speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn't expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner,' said Shashank. Shashank Singh, who finished the IPL 2025 season as the second-highest run-getter for Punjab Kings with 341 runs at a strike rate of 153, was also full of praise for Shreyas, saying there is no captain better than him. Shashank Singh played an unbeaten knock of 61 runs off 30 balls with the help of 3 fours and 6 sixes in the final against RCB, but his effort wasn't enough as the Rajat Patidar-led side won the contest by six runs. Punjab Kings needed 42 runs off the final two overs. Shashank gave it his all, but in the end, it was a classic case of so close but yet so far. 'I had done my calculation of the last two overs, Bhuvi likes to bowl yorkers so I had planned to get atleast 16-17 runs from him. My calculation was that in the last over our target should be 24 runs in 6 balls," said Shashank. "I got only 13 from Bhuvi's over though, so the final over runs needed was 30,' Singh recalls of those tense moments. He knew that in the next six balls he had to connect them all enough to max out. Had he done it, it would have been a miracle but calculation don't always work out, he added. After the IPL 22025 came to an end, the cameras picked up Shashank in tears as he was unable to get the job done and take PBKS to their maiden IPL title win.

A tragic stampede occurred outside the Stadium in Bengaluru during celebrations for the team's IPL victory, leaving 11 dead and over 50 people injured. ‘Shortage of staff, CCTV': Bengaluru Police red-flagged risks of RCB event hours before stampede, say reports
Several reports emerged on Sunday, claiming that a Karnataka police official had warned of the risks of holding a felicitation ceremony for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Vidhana Soudha. Despite the warning, the government went ahead with it on June 4 and held the event in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The event was first supposed to take place on the grand steps of the state legislative assembly building. A letter dated June 4, accessed by the Times of India and NDTV, showed that senior police officer MN Karibasavana Gowda had warned of security concerns and flagged it to the Department of Personnel and Administrative reforms (DPAR). Gowda had reportedly said there was an acute shortage of officers and personnel. According to TOI, he told DPAR head G Satyavathi that this will severely hamper security arrangements (bandobast) for such a large-scale event. "Lakhs of cricket fans are likely to come to Vidhana Soudha. Since there is a shortage of security personnel, making bandobast will be a problem," MN Karibasavana Gowda, in-charge of security at the legislature, wrote to DPAR secretary G Sathyavathi. In the letter, Gowda also pointed to the venue's sensitive status and lack of adequate CCTV coverage. DPAR official Sathyavathi, who was overseeing arrangements at Vidhana Soudha steps, then publicly urged fans to head to the stadium instead - a short distance away. "The team was feted at the legislature and the celebrations then moved on to the stadium. But fears of overcrowding had set in well in advance," the TOI reported. Despite the warning, the celebrations over the RCB's first-ever victory in the IPL game was allegedly rushed through — less than 24 hours after the final match — without proper crowd control or safety protocols, the report added. Sources told TOI that Vidhana Soudha's Deputy Commissioner of Police's (DCP) note was also shared with then Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda, who in turn flagged it to chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh. But permissions were still granted. Later, in the evening of June 4, lakhs of cricket and RCB fans thronged the street outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the victory celebrations, leading to a stampede that claimed 11 lives. The stampede took place ahead of RCB team's felicitation after winning their Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a tight final on Tuesday. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah recently ordered an increase in the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the stampede to ₹ 25 lakh each. The government had earlier announced a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh each. The top senior officials of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam, tendered their resignations, taking "moral responsibility" for the stampese. On June 5, Siddaramaiah had announced that a one-man commission would be formedto look into the procedural lapses in the issue, and the commission has been asked to give the report in 30 days.
