What is Vitamin C and what are its benefits for your skin
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a vital nutrient and powerful antioxidant essential for overall health and skin care. Since the body cannot produce Vitamin C naturally, it must be obtained through diet or topical skincare products. It plays a crucial role in collagen production, which helps keep skin firm and youthful.

2. Boosts collagen production for anti-aging
Collagen is the structural protein that keeps skin firm and youthful. Vitamin C stimulates collagen synthesis, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and promoting skin firmness.
3. Protects against sun damage
As an antioxidant, Vitamin C defends the skin from UV rays and pollution, preventing premature aging and skin damage.
While it's not a sunscreen replacement, Vitamin C enhances skin's natural defense mechanisms.
4. Reduces inflammation and support skin healing
Vitamin C has anti-inflammatory properties that calm redness and irritation. It also accelerates wound healing, making it beneficial for acne-prone or sensitive skin.
5. Hydrates and improves skin texture
Many Vitamin C formulations include hydrating ingredients that boost moisture retention, leading to smoother, plumper skin.
How to use Vitamin C in your skincare
Choose the right concentration:
For beginners, start with a low percentage of Vitamin C serums. More experienced users can opt for serums with higher Vitamin C levels.
Apply on clean skin:
Use Vitamin C serum after cleansing and before moisturizing, ideally in the morning to maximise antioxidant protection throughout the day.
Combine with sunscreen:
Vitamin C enhances sunscreen effectiveness and protects skin from free radical damage caused by UV rays.
Store properly:
Vitamin C is sensitive to light and air, so store products in opaque, airtight containers to maintain potency.

1,254 infant, 45 maternal deaths in Koppal over three years

Koppal: Govt hospitals in Koppal district reported 1,253 newborn and 45 maternal deaths over the past three years, with one infant death occurring in a private hospital. Premature births and health complications were cited as causes. Health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao disclosed these figures in response to BJP MLC Hemalatha Nayak during question hour in the legislative council. The health minister stated that a total of 1,253 newborn deaths were reported, including 446 in 2022-23, 491 in 2023-24, and 317 in 2024-25. Except for one infant death at a private hospital in 2023-24, all cases occurred in govt hospitals in the district. Additionally, 45 maternal deaths were recorded between 2022-23 and 2024-25, attributed to various causes such as high blood pressure and bleeding during pregnancy. "These cases are an example of the state of the health sector in the district," criticised B Girishanand, district president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV). "The number of deaths in private hospitals is not easily available. Therefore, only one infant death has been shown. In reality, it cannot be ruled out that at least half of such deaths might have occurred there," he alleged. Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao identified premature birth, asphyxia during birth, complications due to low birth weight, lung infections, pneumonia, sepsis, jaundice, congenital problems, and heart and nervous system defects as causes of infant deaths. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He also noted that maternal deaths resulted from high blood pressure disorders during pregnancy, bleeding, sepsis, heart-related diseases, multiple organ failure, and abortion infections. Rao detailed actions taken against doctors in other districts of the state regarding maternal and infant deaths in govt hospitals. Show cause notices were issued to a total of 11 doctors from hospitals in Davanagere, Yadgir, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, and Bengaluru Rural districts, including four in Kalaburagi and two in Ramanagara. The health minister emphasised that there is a system for conducting impartial investigations into such incidents. "The state-level maternal mortality analysis committee analysed 530 incidents last year. Accordingly, the infant mortality rate in the state is decreasing, and according to the SRS report of 2022, the infant mortality rate came down from 19 to 14 per 1,000 live births," he explained. Despite the high number of deaths in Koppal district, "no medical institution or doctor has been identified and disciplinary action has been taken," stated the health minister. There is considerable discontent in the district regarding the high rates of maternal and child fatalities and the govt's lack of disciplinary measures. "Numerous media reports have highlighted irregularities in Koppal's govt hospitals. The response from the health minister has confirmed this. So, who is accountable for this situation, and what repercussions will arise from these failures?" asks B Girishanand. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). 7 million American men in their prime aren't working, or even looking - Mike Rowe explains the horror story

American prime-age men not working : American television host and philanthropist Mike Rowe drew a disturbing portrait of the American work force, terming it a "horror story" that's playing out quietly, according to a report. As per Rowe, about 7 million healthy-bodied men of prime working age are not only unemployed, they have even given up looking for work, as per Moneywise. Mike Rowe Highlights Growing Crisis in Male Workforce Participation He said, 'The stat that sticks with me and worries me today is 7.2 million able-bodied men, today in their prime working years, are not only unemployed … [they're] officially not even looking,' as quoted by Moneywise. This startling statistic, while not cited to the source by Rowe, points to an increasing issue regarding the involvement of men in the workplace, according to the report. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Secret to Never Losing Anything Again? Almost 30% indicated they were unemployed by choice, and approximately 9% were taking care of other people, as per the report. This implies a great many of those men who seem to be missing from the labor force aren't so much "able-bodied" or mentally healthy as Rowe portrayed, according to Moneywise. To help close this gap, Rowe's foundation, mikeroweWORKS, has awarded nearly $12 million in scholarships to over 2,000 young Americans seeking training in critical trades since 2008, as reported by Moneywise. Could Better Health Benefits Bring Men Back to Work? But fixing the underlying causes is more than skills training.
